Gordon Schmidt, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Scott County Hospital in Scott City. Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Barton County, he was the son of Amos and Augusta Rodenberg Schmidt. A resident of Scott City since 1945, he was a farmer. On Dec. 9, 1948, he married Jeannine Clinton at the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend,Kans. She survives.
Dorothy R. O'Connell, 98, died Sept. 8 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born March 10, 1914 in Bison, she was the daughter of Harvey Robert and Grace Maude (Crotinger) Timken. On June 4, 1936 she married Earl Ronald O'Connell in Bison. He died on Aug. 21, 2001. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker.
Harlie Edwin Nutting, 99, died Sept. 7, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Feb. 2, 1913 at Aberdeen, Idaho, he was the son of John W. and Mary Ellen (Esery) Sisler. At the age of four, he was adopted by Lewis and Emma (Lynn) Nutting and moved to Southwest Mo. On March 18, 1934, he married Helen Luticia Sanders at Rural Stafford County. She died on Jan. 30, 2005. On April 7, 1956, he married Anne LoBianco, at Oyster Bay, N.Y. She survives. He graduated from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. Attaining his GED from Barton County Community College in 1980, he was a plumber for Marlette Coach Company in Great Bend before his retirement. On May 8, 1976, he married Mary A. Pechanec at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Leroy E. Borron, 84, former Great Bend resident, died at his home with family at his side on July 21. Born Sept. 11, 1927 in Jennings, Okla., he was the son of Everett and Lucille (Harp) Borron. He attended school in Hoisington. On Aug. 15, 1950, he married Dorothy Ann Deines of Hoisington, in Hoisington. They had four children. He worked in the oil production industry, sold real estate and was an insurance salesman for Farmers Insurance. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family at the lake.
Barbara Beth Adms, 91, died March 4, 2015. Born April 22, 1923, in Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Wilbur Floyd and Hilda Leola (Christiansen) Bryant. On Oct. 11, 1946, she married Harry Hugh Adams in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1946, coming from Ellinwood, she was an office clerk for the State of Kansas Agriculture Office and was a homemaker. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.
ELLINWOOD - Lorraine Mary (Matza) Rickert, 78, died March 4, 2015, at her home in Ellinwood. Born on April 8, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Brungardt) Matza. She graduated high school from St. Mary's school in Garden City, attended the Immaculate Conception Convent in Great Bend, and also graduated from the Wilcox Beauty Academy. She later married Larry Rickert on May 9th, 1963, in Holly, Colo. She was a 52-year resident of Ellinwood, where she worked as a beautician.

On Sunday, March 1, our dear mom, Arla Faye McElhaney, 90, joined our dad Carl in Heaven. Arla was born on March 12, 1924 in Pittsburg, to Arthur and Odessa Jones. She graduated from high school in Magazine, Ark., and attended business college in Chillicothe, Mo. She married Carl McElhaney and started a family in Wichita. ELLINWOOD - Maggie Ann (Diebert) Brown, 82, died March 1, at her home in Ellinwood of pancreatic cancer. Born April 7, 1932, near Hoxie, she was the daughter of Julius Edwin and Fairy Fay (Barr) Deibert. On June 5, 1949, she married Earl Robert Brown. He died in 1997. She was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper and as a cook at the Alcove Club.
Wanda Jo Simmons, 62, died March 1 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Oct. 10, 1952 in Casper, Wyo., she was the daughter of Daisy P. Fortna. Wanda graduated high school in Lenwood, Wash., and then later joined the Army where she served six years followed by six more years in the Army Reserve. An Ellinwood resident since 1982, Wanda married husband Francis Simmons on June 21, 1983 in Ellinwood. Wanda worked at Sterling House in Hutchinson as a CMA and was an avid reader who enjoyed nature and being outdoors.
LEOTI - Frances Marie Thurston, 98, passed away on Feb. 21, at Wichita County Health Center LTCU in Leoti. Born Jan. 7, 1917, in Tribune, she was the daughter of Harold and Marjorie Hoopes Smith. On Jan. 4, 1940, she married Harry Thurston in Tribune. He passed away on Oct. 1, 1989, in Tribune, Kansas. A lifetime resident of Western Kansas, she was a homemaker and a retired Avon representative for over 32 years.
ST JOHN - Dale May, 79, died Feb. 27, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born Feb. 12, 1936, he was the son of Carl and Flossie May. On Oct. 7, 1974, he married Judy in Macksville. He was employed by Edmiston Oil Company as a Superintendent. He enjoyed cowboying, camping, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and four-wheeling.

On Nov. 28, 1942, she married R. D. Standlee in Russell, He died on Dec. 31, 2007. A resident of Ellinwood since 1971, coming from Bristow, Okla., she was a homemaker.

On Aug. 8, 1950, he married Cleo Marie Boberg. He worked as an elevator manager and grain inspector with Midway Coop in Corinth and Downs.
