HUTCHINSON - Sylvia Fern Marker, 94, died Nov. 23 at her home in Hutchinson. Born Dec. 12, 1917 in Nickerson, she was the daughter of Harvey H. and Ida Toewes VanNorman. In October of 1937, she married Lloyd Albert Marker. Together the two enjoyed many years of weekend camping trips before Lloyd's death in August of 2002. A resident of Sterling for 65 years before moving to Hutchinson in 2002, she was a homemaker.
Guillermo "Will" Resendiz, 31, died Nov. 25 at his home in Great Bend. Born Feb. 6, 1981 in McAllen, Texas, he was the son of Atanacio and Teresa (Rivera) Resendiz. He married Adelita Diaz in Edinburg, Texas. A resident of Great bend since 1987, coming from McAllen, Texas, he was employed by KMW Loaders as a plasma operator.
LARNED - Wilbur Dean Dirks, 84, passed away Nov. 22 at his home in Larned. He was born March 7, 1928 in Pawnee County, the son of John Jacob Dirks and Anna Marie George. He was a resident of both Larned and Wichita. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Larned and attended Evangel Assembly of God, Wichita.
BROWNELL - Dennis Dale Michel, 64, died Nov. 22, 2012 at Ness County Hospital, Ness City, to join God's Thanksgiving feast, after his long three year battle with peritoneal mesothelioma cancer. He was born June 3, 1948 in Great Bend, the son of Walter and Fern (Keatley) Michel. Dennis was a lifetime resident of Ness County and was proud of his heritage, coming from an 1867 century farm in Ness County.
CHOCTAW, Okla. -- Dwight Murray Jr., 75, died Nov. 12. He was born Dec. 16, 1936, at Winfield, the son of Dwight Everett and Doris Violet (Prouty) Murray. He retired from Northern Gas Products in Bushton after 35 years of service.

Kelly Holden Benker, 24, died Nov. 19 in Barton County. Born April 6, 1988 in Kingman, he was the son of Keith Wayne and Susan Lynn (Bojan) Benker. A resident of Great Bend since 1993, coming from Kingman, he was an electrician.
DENVER, Colo. - Sylvia Ann Welch, 79, died Nov. 14 at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver, Colo. Born July 18, 1933 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of J. David and Esther (Ehrlich) Marmie. On May 17, 1954, she married Charles E. Welch in Great Bend. They later divorced. A resident of Denver, Colo. since 1954, coming from Great Bend, she was employed by J.C. Penney, May D & F, Circuit City, Mountain Bell and owned and operated a Dolly Madison Creamery in the 1970s.
TOPKEA - James Elliott Foster, 87, of Topeka, passed away Nov. 17 at Brewster Health Center following a short illness. Jim was born on April 8, 1925, in Topeka. He was the only child of Dwayne Eliab Foster and Geraldine Mareeta Gardner Foster. Although Jim attended Topeka schools most of his life, his family moved to Carlsbad, N.M. for a couple of years at the beginning of the Great Depression, and returned to Topeka. ODIN - Gerald W. "Jerry" Beran, 88, died May 21, 2015, at Almost Home, Great Bend. He was born Sept. 9, 1926, on the farm in Odin, the son of Anton A. and Hattie Rose (Prosser) Beran. He graduated from Odin High School in 1944 and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After returning from the military, Jerry played professional baseball for the Hutchinson Elks.
Delores Rae Keegan, 83, died May 23, 2015, at Sterling House of Great Bend. She was born Aug. 23, 1931, at Little River, the daughter of Ray and Elsie (Eaton) Folck. Mrs. Keegan was a Great Bend resident and taught public school for 39 years, the last 30 years in Great Bend at Morrison and Jefferson Elementary Schools.
Louis Wintholz, 83, passed from this world to join his beloved wife Phyllis, in heaven on May 22, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Collyer, the son of Reinholdt "Ray" and Mary (Windholz) Wintholz. He attended school in Collyer and graduated from the Hays Cadets Academy in 1950. He married Phyllis Montgomery on May 8, 1954, at Hearndon. She passed away on Feb. 15, 2008.
Sister Marie Klein, 102, died May 21, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters' Convent Infirmary, Great Bend. Born April 25, 1913, in Fowler, as Mary Ann Agatha Klein, Sister Marie was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Helen (Hoffman) Klein. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community July 14, 1928, and pronounced her first vows August 17, 1931. She celebrated 80 years of religious profession in 2011.
GREENFIELD, Ind. - Marlin "Gene" Tammen, 79, passed away May 22, 2015, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on Dec.27, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Herman Tammen and Gladys Tammen. In 1953, he graduated from Great Bend High School. He received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Wichita State University. In October of 1956, he married Cheryl Loy (Foos). He held various positions in the Federal Government from 1962-1987, including Midwest Director of the Office of Personnel Management. LARNED - Walter (Mac) Fox, 92, passed away May 20, 2015, at Diversicare of Larned. Born Sept. 12, 1922, in Larned, he was the son of Walter M. and Gladys Strader Fox. On Dec. 15, 1946, he married Dorothy D. Goldsmith in Wichita. She passed away on May 16, 2013. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer, worked at Larned State Hospital as the plumbing shop foreman for 32 years and also worked at Boeing for one year before going in the service.
RUSSELL - Fara Mae (Brack) Popp, 81, passed away May 17, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 13, 1933, on the family farm north of Otis, she was the daughter of Edwin and Phoebe (Keil) Brack. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Otis High School. On June 15, 1958, she married Paul Popp in Otis. She was a homemaker and assisted her parents on the farm when needed.

She was born March 19, 1969, in Great Bend to Richard and Jackye (Strother) Feldman. Susan graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Barton County Community College. She obtained an Office Manager degree from Wichita Area Vocational Technical College and an Associate Degree from Cowley County Community College in Early Childhood Education. Julia Ann Barnes, 54, died May 16, at her home in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1960, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of James R. Jr., and Joyce L. (Mohr) Lofland. On Nov. 14, 1981, she married Jeff Barnes in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was employed in retirement plan management at CPI Qualified Plan Consultants for more than 15 years. She had a great love of quilting.
