SCOTT CITY - Gordon R. Brantley, 69, passed away at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City on Dec. 26. Born Feb. 11, 1942, in Almena, he was the son of Herbert K. and Wilma F. Walters Brantley. He was a 1960 graduate of Scott Community High School in Scott City and also graduated from Fort Hays University and from Kansas City Kansas Community College with a degree in Mortuary Science. Gordon was the owner and operator of three funeral homes, in Atwood, Great Bend and Dodge City, during his career. In May of 2011, he moved back to Scott City.
TULSA, OKLA. - Edward August Fleske was born July 24, 1920 to August and Anna (Knoche) Fleske on the family farm just north of Larned. He passed from this life at the age of 91 on Dec. 26, in Tulsa, Okla. where he moved in 2007 with his wife, Alma Beth to be closer to family. NESS CITY - Claretta Elizabeth (Witthuhn) Pfannenstiel, 85, passed away Dec. 24 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born on Sept. 10, 1926, in Bazine, she was the daughter of Edwin and Clara (Michel) Witthuhn. She was raised on a farm near Bazine. She attended elementary school in Bazine, two years of high school in Ness City and two years of high school in Bazine where she graduated. She attended Ft. ALBERT - Margaret Elaine Moore, 96, died Dec. 25 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born May 10, 1915, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of George and Martha Anne (McGinty) Devine. On Oct. 5, 1936, she married Bennie F. Moore in Seward. He died in 1979. She then married Glenn E. Moore on Nov. 12, 1980, in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Barton and Rush counties, she was a Registered Nurse at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, Larned State Hospital and the Kansas State Department of Health.
HOISINGTON - John David Kruckenberg, 37, died Dec. 24 in Great Bend. Born Sept. 13, 1974, in Great Bend, he was the son of Homer Andrew and Joyce LaVon (Graham) Kruckenberg. On Oct. 15, 2005, he married Lyndsay Clutter at Hoisington. A resident of Hoisington since August 2011, coming from Topeka and Claflin, he was Director of Technology for USD 354 and then worked in the IT Department at Parrish Hotel in Topeka. He was passionate about computers. He loved and adored his family, especially his children.
Marjorie Elizabeth Schrater, 88, died Dec. 23 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 10, 1923, in Alexander, she was the daughter of Samuel and Catherine (Wilhelm) Yost. On Oct. 7, 1944, she married Vernon Edward Schrater in Alexander. He died on Feb. 28, 2010. A resident of Great Bend since 1960, coming from Timken, she was a farm wife and a bookkeeper for Rowland's and Whitesell Lumber Company.
Dean Eric Golling, 44, passed away at his home in Great Bend on Dec. 18. He was born Dec. 20, 1966, at Los Angeles, Calif., to Theodore Eric and Elinor Bertha (Haley) Golling. He grew up in the San Diego area, and also lived in the Provo, Utah, area for a number of years, prior to moving to Great Bend about a year ago.

WICHITA - Cecilia "Cec" McClure died Dec. 21 at Hutchinson Hospice House after a brave battle with kidney failure. Born July 17, 1932 in Odin, she was the youngest child of William and Hattie (Frenzl) Klug of Odin. She married Larry McClure in 1961 and was a long-time resident of Wichita. She worked for Edminston Oil company for 22 years and 16 years at Wesley Medical Center where she retired at age 75. She said working kept her young and involved in life. HUTCHINSON - Emanuel T. "Tim" Sauber, 79, died Dec. 22 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born April 12, 1932, in Raymond, the son of Peter M. and Frances (Hoffman) Sauber. He was a 1950 graduate of Ellinwood High School and attended Hutchinson Community College. On May 18, 1957, he married Bettie A. Anderson at St. Joseph Church in Ellinwood. She survives. Emanuel retired from Cessna after 34 years as an industrial engineer and then worked for Trinity Junior and Senior High School for 20 years. Emanuel loved golfing, fishing and working on his lawn.
DENVER, Colo. - Susan Kay Ehrlich Campbell, 47, died Dec. 18 in Denver, Colo. Born Dec. 16, 1964 in Russell, she was the daughter of Glen and Leona (Maier) Ehrlich. A resident of Denver, Colo. for two years, coming from Hornell, N.Y., she was a caretaker.
WICHITA - Mildred Lucille (Ricker) Domey, 87, died Dec. 21 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born March 29, 1924, at rural Preston, the daughter of John and Anna Miller Ricker. She married Raymond L. Domey on Feb. 21, 1943, at Junction City. A former Boeing Company and Cessna Aircraft employee, she had been a Wichita resident for 12 years.

REDFORD, Mich. - Robert Lynn Humphrey, 71, died July 23 in Redford, Mich. Born May 18, 1943, in Great Bend, he was the son of Henry Ray and Lenora Caroline (Ochs) Humphrey. In 1961, he graduated from Hoisington High School and then attended Kansas State University. He eventually moved to Michigan where he worked for Nielsen TV Ratings and then for a trucking company until his retirement.
OLMITZ - Milton Alois Yarmer, 88, died July 25 at his home in Olmitz. Born May 17, 1926, at Russell County, he was the son of Frank Rudolph and Marie (Demel) Yarmer. Milton married Mary Agnes Gleissner May 26, 1948, at Olmitz. She died July 12, 2006.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Bradley K. Brann, 64, of Kansas City, Mo., passed suddenly on July 24. He was born Jan. 12, 1950, in Abilene, to Dorothy and Hilton Brann. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School and Fort Hays State University. He taught at Southeast Missouri University, followed by a career in sales and real estate.
HUTCHINSON - Mark A. Bomgardner, 51, of Hutchinson, went home to be with his Savior, July 27 at Reno County Hospice House. He may have lost his battle with cancer, but he conquered the grave when he accepted Christ as his savior. He was born May 31, 1963 in Joplin, MO, the son of Bob and Judy Allen Bomgardner. He was a 1981 graduate of Dodge City High School, and received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Fort Hays State University. He was a Hutchinson resident for the past 15 years moving from Great Bend.
SPEARVILLE - Susie Ackerman, 95, died July 26, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. Born March 7, 1919, in Pratt, she was the daughter of Michael and Alice Duncan Shanley. On Oct. 2, 1951, she married John F. Ackerman in Pratt. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2003. An area resident since 1951, she was a homemaker.

Lyle E. Schaben, 89, died July 26 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. He was born Aug. 27, 1924, at Bazine, the son of John and Verda (Ryersee) Schaben. Mr. Schaben was a graduate of Bazine High School. He married Nathalie J. Borger Feb. 15, 1947, at Bazine. She died June 22, 2012. Jerry Mitchell Jones, 76, died July 24, at Hospice House of Reno County in Hutchinson. Born Dec. 13, 1937, in Hutchinson, he was the son of Ray and Marjorie (Swann) Jones. On March 12, 1958, he married Nelta Irene Simpson in Great Bend. She died on Dec. 3, 1997. A lifetime resident of Great Bend and Seward, he was the owner and operator of the J&J Cafe in Seward until 1997.
