Armella Ann Edwards
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - Armella Ann Edwards, 85, died Oct. 10 at Franciscan Villa of Broken Arrow in Broken Arrow, Okla. She was born June 17, 1925, on the Dreiling farm northwest of Hays, the youngest of 10 children. Her parents were Aloise and Anna (Herl) Dreiling. She married James Lawrence Edwards Sr. on May 5, 1945, at Norfolk, Va. He died Nov. 9, 1986. She was employed by American Parts in Great Bend and was also a homemaker and caretaker of her husband.

CLAFLIN - Larry Gene Garrett, 60, died Oct. 7 at his home in Claflin. He was born July 25, 1950, at Forrest City, Ark., the son of Carlton Daniel and Luna Winona (Beard) Garrett. He married June Agnes Arends on Feb. 27, 1975, at Great Bend. A Claflin resident since 1974, coming from Schell City, Mo., he was a self-employed truck driver.

Ms. Cynthia Barnes, 53, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sept. 16. She was born on April 23, 1957, in Great Bend, the only daughter of Christian and Rosalie Peters Leiker. HOISINGTON - Martin "Marty" C. Smith, 58, passed away Sunday May 19, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. Born October 7, 1954 in Denver, Colo., he was the son of Robert E. and Evelyn (Collins) Smith. On Jan. 16, 1998 he married Karen King in Springfield, Mo. Marty moved to Hoisington in 2008 coming from Lovington, New Mexico. He served his country in the United States Army and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator until he was disabled.

LARNED - Dorothy D. Fox, 88, died May 16 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. Born Oct. 12, 1924, in Muskegon, Mich., she was the daughter of Ernest W. Goldsmith. On Dec. 15, 1946, she married Walter Mac Fox in Wichita. A longtime area resident of Larned, she was a farmer's wife, a Rosie Riveter for Boeing during World War II and worked in the Dietary Department at Larned State Hospital.
