EL DORADO - After a short battle with cancer, Lorna Rose Holmes, 52, of El Dorado, went to be with her Lord, on Sept. 24 at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. Lorna was born on June 28, 1959, in Great Bend, the daughter of Keith and Lorraine Holmes. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1977, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Wichita State University, and her master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from Emporia State University. LARNED - Amil A. Hanson, 95, passed away Sept. 25 at the Larned Healthcare Center. Born April 18, 1916, in rural Pawnee County, he was the son of Axel and Mae Nelson Hanson. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer/stockman. On Oct. 1, 1950, he married Berniece M. Nuttelman at Great Bend. She survives.

Frankie Lea Keffer, 78, died Sept. 22 at home in Great Bend. She was born Oct. 14, 1932 in Hutchinson, the daughter of William E. "Rass" and Hazel O. (Zumalt) Watkins.
CHASE - Darlene Weatherman, 60, died Sept. 21 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. Born Dec. 9, 1950, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Ira P. and Margaret Heinz McKay. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School. On May 25, 1968, she married Larry Weatherman Sr. in Great Bend. A resident of Chase since 1992, formerly of Hoisington, she was a former office manager for Karlin Communications and Cablevision and a pastor.
David Ray Hickey, 59, died Sept. 8 in Denver, Colo. Born Dec. 2, 1951, he was the son of Raymond and Twilli Hickey.

GREELEY, Colo. - Mary Anne Durler was born in Leavenworth on April 27, 1921, the daughter of John Jacob Durler, Sr. and Marguerite Cecelia Reynolds. She graduated from The Dominican (St. Rose) School of Nursing in Great Bend in 1944 and on May 11, 1944 enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corps, receiving her basic training at Colorado Springs.
SALINA - Mrs. Jo Lyn Bartz, 51, of Salina passed away Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 at Via Christi- St. Francis in Wichita.
Diana D. Reynolds, 66, died July 17, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born on Nov. 19, 1947, in Berkeley, W.V. She married David L. Reynolds. Diana was a caseworker.
Kenneth Harold Allen, 86, died July 31, at Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1928, in Great Bend, he was the son of James Martin and Bertha (Piel) Allen. On April 28, 1952, he married Maude Evalene Russell in Salem, Ark. She died on Aug. 8, 2007. A lifetime resident of Great Bend he was a carpenter for Marlette Homes.
HUTCHINSON - Paul E. Campbell, 69, died July 7, at his home. Born Oct. 9, 1944, in Great Bend, he was the son of Emerson and Mildred Campbell.

REDFORD, Mich. - Robert Lynn Humphrey, 71, died July 23 in Redford, Mich. Born May 18, 1943, in Great Bend, he was the son of Henry Ray and Lenora Caroline (Ochs) Humphrey. In 1961, he graduated from Hoisington High School and then attended Kansas State University. He eventually moved to Michigan where he worked for Nielsen TV Ratings and then for a trucking company until his retirement.
OLMITZ - Milton Alois Yarmer, 88, died July 25 at his home in Olmitz. Born May 17, 1926, at Russell County, he was the son of Frank Rudolph and Marie (Demel) Yarmer. Milton married Mary Agnes Gleissner May 26, 1948, at Olmitz. She died July 12, 2006.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Bradley K. Brann, 64, of Kansas City, Mo., passed suddenly on July 24. He was born Jan. 12, 1950, in Abilene, to Dorothy and Hilton Brann. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School and Fort Hays State University. He taught at Southeast Missouri University, followed by a career in sales and real estate.
HUTCHINSON - Mark A. Bomgardner, 51, of Hutchinson, went home to be with his Savior, July 27 at Reno County Hospice House. He may have lost his battle with cancer, but he conquered the grave when he accepted Christ as his savior. He was born May 31, 1963 in Joplin, MO, the son of Bob and Judy Allen Bomgardner. He was a 1981 graduate of Dodge City High School, and received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Fort Hays State University. He was a Hutchinson resident for the past 15 years moving from Great Bend.
SPEARVILLE - Susie Ackerman, 95, died July 26, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. Born March 7, 1919, in Pratt, she was the daughter of Michael and Alice Duncan Shanley. On Oct. 2, 1951, she married John F. Ackerman in Pratt. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2003. An area resident since 1951, she was a homemaker.

SPRING HILL - Deena Kay Erb, 55, passed away July 27, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on Jan. 12, 1959, in Nevada, Mo. to Elton Eugene and Helen Nadine (Spencer) Anders. She grew up in Walker, Mo. and attended Walker High School then went on to receive her LPN license from Fort Scott Community College. On Feb. 10, 1979, she married Paul Gerard Erb in Nevada, Mo. Lyle E. Schaben, 89, died July 26 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. He was born Aug. 27, 1924, at Bazine, the son of John and Verda (Ryersee) Schaben. Mr. Schaben was a graduate of Bazine High School. He married Nathalie J. Borger Feb. 15, 1947, at Bazine. She died June 22, 2012. Raised on the family farm, he began farming as a young man and he and Nathalie raised their family in the house built by Lyle's father. WESTVILLE, Okla. - Wanza Lou McCrary was born Dec 11, 1931, in Morton, Texas, to James Olin and Pearl Dimple (Herndon) Willis, the eldest of three girls. She talked about growing up in the 1930s, about how hard times were, about nailing wet sheets to the windows during dust storms and the families dream of green pastures - then they moved here.
Jerry Mitchell Jones, 76, died July 24, at Hospice House of Reno County in Hutchinson. Born Dec. 13, 1937, in Hutchinson, he was the son of Ray and Marjorie (Swann) Jones. On March 12, 1958, he married Nelta Irene Simpson in Great Bend. She died on Dec. 3, 1997. A lifetime resident of Great Bend and Seward, he was the owner and operator of the J&J Cafe in Seward until 1997.
