ELLINWOOD - Imogene M. Sanko, 80, died May 29 at Country Place Senior Living in Ellinwood. Born Jan. 19, 1932 in Meade, she was the daughter of James Hayden and Hilda Cordes Hayden. On Oct. 8, 1951 she married Wilbert V. Sanko at the Cathedral in Dodge City. A resident of Ellinwood for 58 years, she was a farm wife, bus driver for USD 355 assistant to a veterinarian and a telephone operator.

He graduated from Odin High School in 1944 and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After returning from the military, Jerry played professional baseball for the Hutchinson Elks.

He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Collyer, the son of Reinholdt "Ray" and Mary (Windholz) Wintholz. He attended school in Collyer and graduated from the Hays Cadets Academy in 1950. He married Phyllis Montgomery on May 8, 1954, at Hearndon. She passed away on Feb. 15, 2008.

She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community July 14, 1928, and pronounced her first vows August 17, 1931. She celebrated 80 years of religious profession in 2011.
