LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. - Joseph Henry Kimpler, III, of Libertyville, Ill., left this earth and took the fast track to heaven on Nov. 12, in Great Bend. He was celebrating the 20th annual family pheasant hunting trip when he suffered a fatal heart attack. There he was reunited with beloved wife, Margaret, and Jesus Christ, his Savior. "Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from god, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands" (2 Corinthians 5:1).
WILSON - Alice Elizabeth (Zeman) Homeier passed away Nov. 18, 2011.
FORT WORTH, Texas - The Lord called Engle Scott, a retired U.S. Army colonel, home on Nov. 14, 2011. Engle Wayne Scott was born in Larned, on Jan. 20, 1937, the youngest of eight children of Silvey West Scott and Dixie Shumate Scott. Until the age of 5, he lived in Ash Valley, where his father was a grain elevator and feed store manager. During World War II, his family moved to Great Bend, where he graduated from high school in 1955. RUSH CENTER - Ray L. "Pete" Keener, 75, died Nov. 15, 2011 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Kathleen Kimpler, 85, died Nov. 15 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 8, 1926 in Ellinwood, she was the daughter of George Peter and Mary Ann (Kramer) Kimpler. A resident of Great bend since 1975, coming from Ellinwood, she was a principal and teacher in the Wichita and Dodge City Diocese Catholic Schools for 34 years.
COLUMBUS - Mary Cunningham Minott, 95, died Nov. 14 at Kansas Soldiers Nursing Home in Fort Dodge. Born Dec. 15, 1915, in Carterville, Mo., she was the daughter of R.W. and Effie R. Cook Cunningham. She was a resident of Fort Dodge for several years, previously of Larned and Columbus.
LEAWOOD - Debra Ann Rumble, 56, died Nov. 8 at her home in Leawood. Born May 20, 1955, in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Robert G. and Jean E. (Antenen) Rumble. Growing up in Great Bend, she was a graduate of Great Bend High School and obtained her Master of Library Science degree from Kansas State University. A resident of Leawood, she was a retired librarian for the Turner School District. Debbie was devoted to her cats, Maddie and Murphy, who along with her family and friends will miss her.
David Michael "Mike" Johnson, 72, died Oct. 30 at Almost Home Inc., Great Bend. He was born Nov. 25, 1941, at Denison, Texas, the son of Doug and Woodie (Pritchard) Johnson. He married Peggy Temple April 28, 1962, at Borger, Texas. He founded M and M Equipment in 1975, retiring in December 2012.
PAWNEE ROCK - Ladine Peterson, 95, passed away Oct. 29 at the Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born April 2, 1919, in Bison, she was the daughter of Everett and Frances Bitter Edwards. On April 3, 1941, she married Loraine Edwin Peterson in Bison. He passed away Jan. 20, 1995. A lifetime area resident of Rush and Pawnee County, she began her career as a teacher and retired from the ASCS office in Larned. She raised Persian cats and took them to many shows, and she also loved flowers.
LARNED - Frances Ladine Peterson, 95, died on Oct. 29, at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Beckwith Mortuary.
ODIN – Anna B. Dreiling, 94, died Oct. 29, 2014 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.
HOISINGTON - Anna Rose Urban, 84, died Oct. 28, at Russell Regional Hospital. Born July 3, 1930, in Claflin, she was the daughter of Frank and Anna (Hoffman) Tinkel. On May 2, 1951, she married Julius J. Urban in Dubuque. He died on Oct. 27, 2003. A lifetime resident of Barton County, she was the janitorial manage at the Hoisington Veterinary Hospital for many years.
Marie K. Zink, 91, died Oct. 25 at Kearney, Neb. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend.
WICHITA - Robert W. "Bob" Bridges, 94, died Oct. 28 at Kansas Masonic Home, Wichita. He was born Nov. 28, 1919 at Turley, Okla. the son of Emery and Grace (Roberts) Bridges.
Kent E. Newport, 57, died Oct. 27 at Kansas Medical Center, Andover. He was born June 24, 1957 at Garden City, the son of John and Louise (Long) Newport. He married Karla K. Ehrlich Oct. 17, 1998 at Larned. He graduated from Garden City High School and attended both Garden City and Barton County Community Colleges.
TOPEKA - Loretta M. Gleissner, 87, of Topeka, passed away Oct. 25, in Topeka. She was born May 18, 1927, in New Baden, Ill., the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Mathews) Griesbaum.
COLLINSVILLE, Okla. - Wilthamina (Wilma) Simpson Nagel, resident of Collinsville, passed from this life on Oct. 25, at the age of 85 years. Wilma was born April 2, 1929, in Edinburgh, Scotland, to William and Davina (Taylor) Thomson. She was raised in Scotland, graduating high school there. At the age of 17, Wilma came to the U.S. with her only remaining sister Jane who was a war bride to begin their new life in Cabool, Mo. Benny M. Williams, 57, of Great Bend , passed away on Oct. 22, at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born on Jan. 12, 1957, in Vallejo, Calif., he was the son of Benny O. and Jacqueline D. (Mayfield) Williams. After graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he spent the next two years. He married Shirley Schmitt May 1, 1965 at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident since 1965, coming from Granby, Mo., he was a long-time oilfield truck driver and later owned and operated Tom Harris Trucking.
