LARNED – Lawrence Schneck Jr., 83, died Jan. 3, in Wichita. Born Oct. 7, 1930, in Larned, he was the son of Lawrence I. and Lydia Schultz Schneck. On Aug. 18, 1949, he married Janice H. Younkin. She predeceased him in 2012. He was a farmer for more than 40 years.
HAYS - Vickie J. Cole, 67, passed away Jan. 2, at Hays Medical Center. Born May 12, 1946, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Donald A. and Dorothy (Rinker) Bowsher Sr. On July 3, 1966, she married Tom O. Cole in Great Bend.
ANDOVER - Ernest "E.B."Shawver II, 88, loving husband and father, World War II Army veteran, rancher, oilman, philanthropist and conservationist, passed away on Jan. 1 at his home. Born on May 6, 1925, in Wichita, he was the son of Ernest Blaine and Stella Mae (Barr) Shawver. E.B. married Bettie (Cocking) Cordes in 1946 and they were later divorced. He married Virginia (Ferrell) Oetken on June 13, 1986 in Butler County.
HOISINGTON - David Paul "Pete" Barnard, 79, died Jan. 4, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born April 15, 1934, at Wayne County, Ill., he was the son of Ralph and Ruth (Peddicord) Barnard. On Oct. 13, 1956, he married Joyce Hosselton at Johnsonville, Ill. A Barton County resident since 1963, coming from Oklahoma, he was employed for over forty years in the oil industry until his retirement. HOISINGTON - Helen L. Jonas, 81, died Jan. 5, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Feb. 29, 1932, in Pawnee, Okla., she was the daughter of Cecil Cleeve and Elsie Mae ( Feaster) Richmond. A lifelong Hoisington resident, she graduated from Hoisington High School and attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. She was a school bus driver for the Hoisington Public Schools for 13 years and later worked at the Great Bend Senior Center until her retirement. She enjoyed making wedding cakes, sewing, gardening, and cooking.
Michael Anthony Halseth, 51, died Jan. 3 at his home in Great Bend. Born April 29, 1962, at Topeka, he was the son of Henry "Hank" and Jane (Wilson) Halseth. On May 12, 2006, he married Utonia Bowman in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 2002, coming from Meriden, he was a school district custodian and worked in construction.
Douglas Lorson, 55, died Jan. 3 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born April 9, 1958, at Abilene, he was the son of James Francis and Inez Esther (Strutt) Lorson. A Great Bend resident since 1983, coming from Hays, he was a sous chef for Five Oaks Club and various restaurants.
Leroy C. "Mac" McDorman, 87, died Dec. 31 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 22, 1926, he was the son of Dennis and Lena (Simenton) McDorman. On May 16, 1953, he married Darlene Venters at Plainville. A Great Bend resident since 1966, coming from Russell, he was employed by Halliburton Services, retiring as a field supervisor after 42 years. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working in his yard.
HOISINGTON - Margaret B. Krug, 81, died Jan. 1 at Hospice of Salina in Salina. She was born Oct. 7, 1932, at Ness County, the daughter of Gaston Alvin Eugene and Rosie Bell (Ross) Young. She married Robert Eugene Krug Aug. 9, 1953, at Raton, N.M. He died Sept. 2, 2000.
ELLINWOOD - Tonya K. Miller, 46, died Dec. 30 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Nov. 6, 1967 in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Douglas D. and Joy (Axman) Wilson. In 1986 she graduated from Ellinwood High School. On March 21, 2002 she married Martin Miller in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood and a resident of Great Bend, she was employed by Cellular One and Great Bend Eye Care and spent the last 11 years as a homemaker and mom to twin boys, Eli and Asher, born in 2004. Margaret L. Kearns, 80, died Dec. 30 at her home in Great Bend. Born Jan. 30, 1933 in Downs, she was the daughter of LeRoy and Grace (Graig) Smith. She married Norman Robinson. He died in 1959. On Oct. 7, 1961, she married Charles E. Kearns in Chase. He died on March 24, 1981. A resident of Great Bend since 1986, coming from Chase, she was a homemaker and worked in the fabric department at Walmart until retirement.
DODGE CITY – Pauline C. Durler, 89, died Dec. 29 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Ft. Dodge. She was born Dec. 25, 1924, at Windthorst, the daughter of Herman "Harry" and Catherine Heeke Schawe. On Aug. 25, 1947, she married John E. Durler at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2011. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker and farm wife.
