Connie Schneweis, 64, died March 2 at her Great Bend residence. She was born Aug. 17, 1947, at Great Bend, to Albert Anton and Sarah Josephine (Smith) Maes. She married Larry L. Schneweis June 14, 1969, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Bushton. He survives. Mrs. Schneweis was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1969, coming from rural Bushton.
Dustin W. "Bubba" Buess, 22, died March 2 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, N.D., as the result of an automobile accident. He was born May 24, 1989, at Great Bend, the son of Rodney Wayne Buess and Stephanie Marie Morrison. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a roughneck for Nomac Drilling.

CUNNINGHAM - William Clyde Murphey, 70, died Feb. 28 at Stafford County Hospital in Stafford. Born May 29, 1941 in Scott City, he was the son of Lloyd and Marguerite (Bivens) Murphey. A lifetime resident of Cunningham, he was a farmer/stockman.

SMITH CENTER - Norman Morgan, 78, died Feb. 25 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital. Born on March 23, 1933 in Gravity, Iowa, he was the son of Ivan and Beulah (Downs) Morgan. He worked for the United Sates Postal Service in Gothenburg, Neb. and was promoted to postmaster in Polk, Neb. and Belgrade, Neb.
OXBORO, MASS. - Mary Constance (Moses) Stone, 90, died on Feb. 19 peacefully at the Doolittle Home in Foxboro, Mass. She was the beloved mother of her two children, Greta Stone of Wayland, Mass. and Gregory Stone of Hawaii, and loving grandmother of Jonathan, Madelaine, and Juan, her son-in-law Andy Myers and daughter-in-law Austen Stone, and her many friends. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Helene Gay (Connet) Moses.
Elmer C. Dupree, 90, died Feb. 23 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 10, 1921 in Knowles, Okla. he was the son of John L. and Clara Mae (Taylor) Dupree. On Dec. 21, 1941 he married Rhea M. Brown in Chester Okla. She died on Oct. 16, 2009. A resident of Great Bend since 1951, coming from Kinsley, he owned and operated the Dupree Locker Service for 28 years and later worked for Dillons for 17 years.
Vernon McCord, 79, died Feb. 25 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 4, 1932, he was the son of J.R. and Martha (Day) McCord. He married Imogene Reeves in Arkansas. They later divorced. On Dec. 20, 1979 he married Betty Wilson in Larned. She survives. A Great Bend resident since 1969, coming from Winfield, he owned and operated McCord's Service, Inc. HOISINGTON - Shirley L. Jones, 60, died Feb. 25 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Feb. 12, 1952 in Topeka, she was the daughter of Alois and Pauline (Waldschmidt) Kisner. On May 17, 1969 she married William Clayton Jones in Hoisington. A long time resident of Hoisington, coming from Ellis, she was a homemaker.
LARNED - Violet "Vi" Smith-Snyder, 88, died Feb. 26 at her home in Larned. Born Dec. 17, 1923 in Larned, the daughter of James W. and Ketha Blanche Hanon Kitterman. A lifetime Larned resident she was a beautician for 25 years, a nurses aide for 10 years and a receptionist for 10 years. On Sept. 22, 1940 she married Bernard D. Smith at Larned. He died on Aug. 24, 1968. On June 4, 1973 she married Guy Snyder at Larned. He died on August 31, 2005.
Theda Debes, 89, died Feb. 27, 2012, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. She was born Oct. 4, 1922, at Waurika, Okla., the daughter of Columbus Frederick and Willie Pearl (Glazner) Sparkman. Her father died when she was 6 years old. She was then raised by her mother and stepfather, Delbert Easter Elliot.
LACROSSE - Irene T. Nagel, 90, of La Crosse, died Feb. 24 at the Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in La Crosse. Born Oct. 29, 1921, in rural Albert, she was the daughter of Herman Henry Dietrich And Hilda Anna Christina (Tammen) George. She married Virgil H. Nagel on Nov. 8, 1945, at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1987. A resident of La Crosse since May 2006, moving there from Larned, she was a laundress at the Larned State Hospital until her retirement.

LARNED - Raymond H. Smith, 67, died Feb. 23 at his home in Larned. He was born Jan. 17, 1945, in Syracuse, the son of Walter R. and Eva M. Grippin Smith. A lifetime area resident, he was an MH-DD Technician at the Larned State Hospital.
ANDOVER - Cheryl Ann Harrell, 68, entered the arms of her Lord and Savior, March 29, 2015, at Life Care Center of Andover. Born Dec. 14, 1946, in Atchison she was the daughter of Wallace and Verdele Russell. In August 1965, she married the love of her life, Jon. She was a retired office manager for her husband's optometry practice. She worked with Jon in their offices in Larned and Great Bend, building his optometry practice until his death Jan. 1, 2006.

Born Feb. 21, 1960, in Denver, Colo. he was the son of David A. and Faye Colyn Sr. He was a former resident of McPherson graduating from McPherson High School. On May 26, 2005 he married Lillian Galletta in Pratt. He was a fabricator for Fab-Pro of Kingman.

Reverend Willie A. "Bill" Gray, 79, went home to sit on the right-hand side of the Lord on March 29, at his home in Great Bend. Born April 20, 1935, in Pawnee, Okla. he was the son of Lee Andy and Mary Etta (Cargill) Gray. He attended school in Hutchinson. He worked as a contractor for the City Highway Department in Hutchinson and then lived in Denver, Colo., for many years as an auto detailer and truck driver. LYONS - Mary Stone, 63, died March 28, at her home in Lyons. Born Nov. 8, 1951, in Beloit, she was the daughter of Albert and Freda Wooton Roof. She graduated from Great Bend High School and Barton Community College with an associates degree. On April 6, 1979, she married Jay B. Stone. A resident of Lyons since 1973, formerly of Great Bend, she was a Correctional Investigator at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility, Dispatcher for the Rice County Council of Aging and Quivira Transit.
HAYS - Carey A. Schulte, 56, former Hays and Russell resident, died March 27, at Via Christi Hospital/St. Francis Campus in Wichita. Born July 8, 1958, in Hays she was the daughter of John E. and Amelia (Dinkel) Schulte. She grew up in Victoria and attended the Anderson School of Hope at Victoria until it closed in the 1970's. She was a client with Development Services of Northwest Kansas for over 25 years and lived in Norton, Hill City, Ellis and Hays.

Delia "Dee" Farminer, 73, died March 26, 2015, at her home in North Newton. Born March 13, 1942, in Southampton, England, she was the daughter of Thomas and Gwendoline (Hooker) Eldridge. On Aug. 19, 1961, she married Eric Farminer in Southampton, England. He died on March 25, 1996. A resident of Great Bend since 1965, coming from Southampton, England, she recently lived in North Newton to be close to family. She was a caregiver for Elder Care.
Sister Connie Haug (Sister Omer), 80, died March 26, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary in Great Bend. Born Sept. 28, 1934, in Seneca, as Constance Lucille Haug, Sister Connie was the daughter of Omer and Lucille Noll Haug. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community in Great Bend on Aug. 28, 1952, and pronounced her first vows on June 13, 1955. She celebrated 50 years of religious profession in 2005.
BOULDER, Colo. - James Lane Williams, 91, of Boulder, Colo., died of natural causes on March 26, 2015, surrounded by his family. The son of Marie Steckel and J.O. Williams, he was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Ellinwood. His family lived in several towns in Oklahoma and Kansas before settling in Great Bend in 1937. He served in the United States Army during World War II and married Helen Thompson on March 25, 1944, while stationed in El Paso, Texas. He and Helen were married for 60 great years.
Billy Joe Leatherman, 75, died March 26, 2015, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 11, 1939, in Stafford, he was the son of Merle M. and Marie (Koelsch) Leatherman. On Jan. 10, 1960, he married Iona Lebsack in Otis. A resident of Great Bend since 1960, coming from St. John, he was an oilfield chemical salesman.
