Elsie Mae Pickerill, 69, passed away at the Minneola Long Term Care Center in Minneola on Monday afternoon, Feb. 13. Elsie was born on Sept. 12, 1942, in Ellsworth to John and Mildred (Mills) Ploutz. She graduated from Ellsworth High School. On Sept. 5, 1964, she was united in marriage to Gary Pickerill in Great Bend, where the couple made their home. One of Elsie's favorite activities was watching KU basketball.
ODIN - Irene M. Beran, 88, died Feb. 13 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born April 11, 1923, in Victoria, she was the daughter of Wendelin and Pauline (Dreiling) Dinkel. On June 16, 1948, she married August V. Beran in Victoria. He died May 4, 1966. A resident of Odin since 1948, coming from Victoria, and moving to Great Bend in 2005, she was a homemaker and served in domestic services.
Patricia M. Steadman Robl, 90, died Feb. 13 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home.
WICHITA - Thelma M. Steincamp (Langrehr), 81, died Feb. 12 after a long, courageous battle with old age. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Ma), sister, aunt, and friend to all. Thelma had a special gift for friendships, a genuine interest in other people and made new friends everywhere she went. She showed a generosity and fortitude that did not waiver, even as her health failed.
BISON - Rodney D. Gisick, 67, died unexpectedly on Dec. 25, 2011. He was born the son of Clarence and Naomi (Reichel) Gisick, on April 28, 1944, in Bison. He was a 1962 graduate of Bison High School, and went on to study music at Bethany College in Lindsborg and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass., where he earned a master's degree in voice performance in 1968. He was an active vocal performer and voice teacher for many years in New England, New York City and elsewhere, teaching at the University of Massachusetts and Amherst College.
ELLINWOOD - Rob Zimmerman, 54, died Feb. 13, 2012 at his home in Ellinwood. Born July 17, 1957 in Ellinwood, he was the son of Robert M. Zimmerman and Beverly A. Blehm Zimmerman. He graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1975 and attended Salina Vo-Tech. On Feb. 17, 1995 he married Tammy Bownes in Las Vegas, Nev. A long-time resident of Ellinwood, he was an oilfield truck for Duke Drilling, hay hauler for Mike Ringwald, and employed by Fastrack Trucking in Raymond.

RUSSELL - Donald (Don) Eugene Fosdick, 58, of Russell, died Feb. 9 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born Nov. 24, 1953, in Ellinwood, the son of Donald T. and Geraldine K. (Cope) Fosdick. He grew up in the Great Bend area and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1972. He was a welder and was the owner and operator of Western Welders in Oklahoma for over 15 years. Robert D. "Bob" Engle died on Feb. 9 at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood. He was born on Dec. 25, 1929, in Ransom, to Oscar V. and Florence E. (Combest) Engle.
OVERLAND PARK - Herb "Herbo" Freidenberger, 92, formerly of Hutchinson and Dunedin, Fla., passed away on Jan. 31, 2012 in Overland Park. Born on July 3, 1919, in Otis, he was the son of Sophie (Kindsvater) and George Freidenberger. On June 18, 1939, he married Marguerite Mendenhall in Hutchinson. She died Feb. 19, 2005. Herb retired in 1981, after a 43-year career from the Dillon Companies. After retiring to Florida, Herb attended Clown School and dedicated the next 25 years to making people laugh and smile as "Herbo" the Clown.
Bob D. Post, 88, died Feb. 7 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita. Born Feb. 20, 1923, at Winfield, he was the son of Walter Eden and Clara Louesa (Barritt) Post. He married Karen Healzer Wagner on June 5, 1970, at Great Bend. He was a driver and warehouseman for Great Bend Candy and Tobacco Co., and was an artist and retired from USD 428 as a custodian at Jefferson Elementary School.
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Gary Dean Southard, born George Gary Dean Southard on Jan. 16, 1935, passed away on Jan. 24 at Broward General Medical Center with family at his bedside, from complications of heart disease. A resident of Coral Springs, Fla., since 1978, he was born in Hutchinson and raised in Great Bend. Before coming to Great Bend, his family followed their father in the oil fields in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Gary graduated from Great Bend High School.
Dorothy Mae Dawson, 88, died March 25, 2015, at Almost Home Inc. in Great Bend. She was born June 25, 1926, at Great Bend, the daughter of Robert John and Mary Ethel (Davidson) Herren.
Delia "Dee" Farminer, 73, died March 26, 2015, at her home in North Newton. Born March 13, 1942, in Southampton, England, she was the daughter of Thomas and Gwendoline (Hooker) Eldridge. On Aug. 19, 1961, she married Eric Farminer in Southampton, England. He died on March 25, 1996. A resident of Great Bend since 1965, coming from Southampton, England, she recently lived in North Newton to be close to family. She was a caregiver for Elder Care.
Sister Connie Haug (Sister Omer), 80, died March 26, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary in Great Bend. Born Sept. 28, 1934, in Seneca, as Constance Lucille Haug, Sister Connie was the daughter of Omer and Lucille Noll Haug. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community in Great Bend on Aug. 28, 1952, and pronounced her first vows on June 13, 1955. She celebrated 50 years of religious profession in 2005.
BOULDER, Colo. - James Lane Williams, 91, of Boulder, Colo., died of natural causes on March 26, 2015, surrounded by his family. The son of Marie Steckel and J.O. Williams, he was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Ellinwood. His family lived in several towns in Oklahoma and Kansas before settling in Great Bend in 1937. He served in the United States Army during World War II and married Helen Thompson on March 25, 1944, while stationed in El Paso, Texas. He and Helen were married for 60 great years.
Billy Joe Leatherman, 75, died March 26, 2015, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 11, 1939, in Stafford, he was the son of Merle M. and Marie (Koelsch) Leatherman. On Jan. 10, 1960, he married Iona Lebsack in Otis. A resident of Great Bend since 1960, coming from St. John, he was an oilfield chemical salesman.

ABILENE - Velma Mae Sievers went home to Jesus at the age of 93 on March 20, 2015, at Abilene Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family. She was born Sept. 22, 1921, to Robert John and Mae McWilliams Barnett on a farm southwest of Humboldt. Because her Dad rented from a family named Chicken, she always chuckled and said "I was born in the Chicken House."
HOISINGTON - Dwight C. Martin, 73, died March 21, at his home in Hoisington. Born Aug/ 12, 1941, in Ransom, he was the son of Clade and Sylvia (Everhardt) Martin. Dwight graduated from Utica High School,Utica. He retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a train dispatcher, after working there for more than 40 years. Dwight was a member of the Hoisington Masonic Lodge #331, ISIS Shrine in Salina, Russell Shrine Club, Sunflower Shrine Club in Great Bend, and was a former president of the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce. ELLINWOOD - Carl Marcus Fox, 89, died March 23, at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson. Born Charles Orman Bear on March 5, 1926 at Cortez, Colo., he was the son of Orman and Philomena (Swan) Bear, he was later adopted by Clarence M. "Bud" Fox and his name changed to Carl Marcus Fox.
Carlos Myles Miller, 95, died March 21 at Stafford County Hospital. Born March 12, 1920, in Great Bend, he was the son of Clarence and Alverta (Gaunt) Miller. On Sept. 28, 1941, he married Mary Emily Downey. She preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 1994.
Frances Elizabeth "Tee" Simpson, 98, died March 22 at Cherry Village Nursing Home. Born Sept. 23, 1916 at St. Clair County, Mo., she was the daughter of Fred and Mayme (Malicoat) Jackson.
