BISON - Alberta J. Freidenberger, 83, died March 23 at Hays Medical Center-Hadley Campus. Born Oct. 1, 1928 in Claflin, she was the daughter of Conrad and Mary (Kukula) Hoffman. In 1946, she graduated from Claflin High School. A resident of Rush County since 1949, she was a homemaker and a bus driver for USD 403 for 20 years. On May 22, 1949, she married Alex J. Freidenberger in Odin. Mrs. Freidenberger was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary and Women of Evangelical Lutheran Churches of America of Trinity Lutheran Church, both of Otis.

RUSSELL - James J. "Jim" Schumacher, 75, of Russell died on March 24 at the Russell Regional Hospital. Born on Feb. 28, 1937 in Park, he was the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Stecklein) Schumacher. He grew up and attended the country school near Grainfield. Later, he joined the United States Navy during the post Korean War era. Schwartz on July 29, 1947, at Liebenthal. She was a nurse's aide and volunteer at Central Kansas Medical Center. Mrs. Schwartz was a Great Bend resident most of her life, coming from Liebenthal.

PAWNEE ROCK - John L. "Jack" Godin, 76, died May 25, 2015, at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita. Born March 24, 1939, in Tupper Lake, N.Y., he was the son of Frank and Marion (Prespare) Godin. On Oct. 31, 1981, he married Mildred Gable in Great Bend. A resident of Pawnee Rock for six years, coming from Great Bend, he was a heavy equipment operator in the oilfield and later worked for maintenance at Great Bend Housing Authority.

Louis Wintholz, 83, passed from this world to join his beloved wife Phyllis, in heaven on May 22, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Collyer, the son of Reinholdt "Ray" and Mary (Windholz) Wintholz. He attended school in Collyer and graduated from the Hays Cadets Academy in 1950. He married Phyllis Montgomery on May 8, 1954, at Hearndon. She passed away on Feb. 15, 2008.

Born April 25, 1913, in Fowler, as Mary Ann Agatha Klein, Sister Marie was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Helen (Hoffman) Klein. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community July 14, 1928, and pronounced her first vows August 17, 1931. She celebrated 80 years of religious profession in 2011.
