Ruth M. Immenschuh, 97, passed away at her residence in Great Bend, on Dec. 30, under the loving care of two dear friends. She was born April 3, 1914, at St. Marys, the daughter of Joseph and Grace Farrell. She married Earl Leo Immenschuh on Nov. 23, 1937, at St. Marys. He died Nov. 6, 1991. A Great Bend resident since 1952, coming from Topeka, she was manager of the Barton County Community College Bookstore until her retirement in 1984.
MESA, Ariz. - Eldora Steinert, 88, died passed away on Dec. 28, at her winter home in Mesa, Ariz. She was born March 17, 1923, in Great Bend, to Harold and Angela Powell. She married Alfred Steinert in Great Bend. He survives. She was a resident of Mesa, Ariz., and Denver, Colo.
Margaret Jean Nething, 88, died Dec. 30 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born June 21, 1923, at Great Bend, the daughter of Oscar Harmon and Della E. (Parker) Pierce. She married William M. Nething May 20, 1945, at Great Bend. He died Sept. 16, 1986. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone during World War II, worked at Bayless Dry Cleaning, and was a home health aide.
RUSSELL - Herbert James Michaelis, 98, died Dec. 26, at his home. Born Aug. 31, 1913, on the family farm southeast of Russell, he was the son of Honis and Mollie (Strecker) Michaelis. In 1931 he graduated from Russell High School. On Aug. 11, 1946, he married Eva M. Milberger at the Methodist Church in Russell. He joined the staff of L. Banker Mercantile in 1933 where he was employed for 43 years until 1976, retiring as manager of the shoe department.
DURANGO, Colo. - Aiden Allen Riddle passed away Dec. 23, at the age of 2. Aiden died at The Children's Hospital in Parker, Colo. Aiden was born on Aug. 5, 2009, to Jaclynn Shaw and Ryan Riddle in Durango, Colo.
SCOTT CITY - Gordon R. Brantley, 69, passed away at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City on Dec. 26. Born Feb. 11, 1942, in Almena, he was the son of Herbert K. and Wilma F. Walters Brantley. He was a 1960 graduate of Scott Community High School in Scott City and also graduated from Fort Hays University and from Kansas City Kansas Community College with a degree in Mortuary Science. Gordon was the owner and operator of three funeral homes, in Atwood, Great Bend and Dodge City, during his career. In May of 2011, he moved back to Scott City.
TULSA, OKLA. - Edward August Fleske was born July 24, 1920 to August and Anna (Knoche) Fleske on the family farm just north of Larned. He passed from this life at the age of 91 on Dec. 26, in Tulsa, Okla. where he moved in 2007 with his wife, Alma Beth to be closer to family. NESS CITY - Claretta Elizabeth (Witthuhn) Pfannenstiel, 85, passed away Dec. 24 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born on Sept. 10, 1926, in Bazine, she was the daughter of Edwin and Clara (Michel) Witthuhn. She was raised on a farm near Bazine. She attended elementary school in Bazine, two years of high school in Ness City and two years of high school in Bazine where she graduated. She attended Ft. ALBERT - Margaret Elaine Moore, 96, died Dec. 25 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born May 10, 1915, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of George and Martha Anne (McGinty) Devine. On Oct. 5, 1936, she married Bennie F. Moore in Seward. He died in 1979. She then married Glenn E. Moore on Nov. 12, 1980, in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Barton and Rush counties, she was a Registered Nurse at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, Larned State Hospital and the Kansas State Department of Health.
HOISINGTON - John David Kruckenberg, 37, died Dec. 24 in Great Bend. Born Sept. 13, 1974, in Great Bend, he was the son of Homer Andrew and Joyce LaVon (Graham) Kruckenberg. On Oct. 15, 2005, he married Lyndsay Clutter at Hoisington. A resident of Hoisington since August 2011, coming from Topeka and Claflin, he was Director of Technology for USD 354 and then worked in the IT Department at Parrish Hotel in Topeka. He was passionate about computers. He loved and adored his family, especially his children.
Marjorie Elizabeth Schrater, 88, died Dec. 23 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 10, 1923, in Alexander, she was the daughter of Samuel and Catherine (Wilhelm) Yost. On Oct. 7, 1944, she married Vernon Edward Schrater in Alexander. He died on Feb. 28, 2010. A resident of Great Bend since 1960, coming from Timken, she was a farm wife and a bookkeeper for Rowland's and Whitesell Lumber Company.
Dean Eric Golling, 44, passed away at his home in Great Bend on Dec. 18. He was born Dec. 20, 1966, at Los Angeles, Calif., to Theodore Eric and Elinor Bertha (Haley) Golling. He grew up in the San Diego area, and also lived in the Provo, Utah, area for a number of years, prior to moving to Great Bend about a year ago.
HAYS - Michael Dean Graf, 59 died May 28, 2015, at his home in Hays. He was born June 13, 1955, in Great Bend, to Edwin and Armella "Millie" (Stegman) Graf. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1973 and attended Fort Hays State University. He married Robbie (Weatherbee) Dreiling on Aug. 31, 1991.
Funeral services for Richard D. Mitchell, who died on May 25, 2015, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monda, June 1, at the First Assembly of God. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
PAWNEE ROCK - John L. "Jack" Godin, 76, died May 25, 2015, at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita. Born March 24, 1939, in Tupper Lake, N.Y., he was the son of Frank and Marion (Prespare) Godin. On Oct. 31, 1981, he married Mildred Gable in Great Bend. A resident of Pawnee Rock for six years, coming from Great Bend, he was a heavy equipment operator in the oilfield and later worked for maintenance at Great Bend Housing Authority.
Erwin "Erv" Leiker, 81, Great Bend, died May 24, 2015, at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Hays the son of Leo and Angela (Klaus) Leiker. On Nov. 8, 1958, he married Janet Grace Burgardt in Pfeifer. She died May 6, 2000. He was a retired oilfield worker and was a Hays High School graduate.
Ruth Marie Cannon, 79, died May 23, 2015, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born May 16, 1936, at Dodge City, the daughter of Hillary and Ruth Borne. She married Manford G. "Bud" Cannon Oct. 29, 1949, at Boone, Arkansas. He died Dec. 7, 1982. A long-time Great Bend resident, she was an accounts payable clerk for Great Bend Manufacturing.
ODIN - Gerald W. "Jerry" Beran, 88, died May 21, 2015, at Almost Home, Great Bend. He was born Sept. 9, 1926, on the farm in Odin, the son of Anton A. and Hattie Rose (Prosser) Beran. He graduated from Odin High School in 1944 and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After returning from the military, Jerry played professional baseball for the Hutchinson Elks.
Delores Rae Keegan, 83, died May 23, 2015, at Sterling House of Great Bend. She was born Aug. 23, 1931, at Little River, the daughter of Ray and Elsie (Eaton) Folck. Mrs. Keegan was a Great Bend resident and taught public school for 39 years, the last 30 years in Great Bend at Morrison and Jefferson Elementary Schools.
Louis Wintholz, 83, passed from this world to join his beloved wife Phyllis, in heaven on May 22, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Collyer, the son of Reinholdt "Ray" and Mary (Windholz) Wintholz. He attended school in Collyer and graduated from the Hays Cadets Academy in 1950. He married Phyllis Montgomery on May 8, 1954, at Hearndon. She passed away on Feb. 15, 2008.
Sister Marie Klein, 102, died May 21, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters' Convent Infirmary, Great Bend. Born April 25, 1913, in Fowler, as Mary Ann Agatha Klein, Sister Marie was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Helen (Hoffman) Klein. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community July 14, 1928, and pronounced her first vows August 17, 1931. She celebrated 80 years of religious profession in 2011.
GREENFIELD, Ind. - Marlin "Gene" Tammen, 79, passed away May 22, 2015, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on Dec.27, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Herman Tammen and Gladys Tammen. In 1953, he graduated from Great Bend High School. He received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Wichita State University. In October of 1956, he married Cheryl Loy (Foos). He held various positions in the Federal Government from 1962-1987, including Midwest Director of the Office of Personnel Management.
