LOVELAND, Colo. - Robert Jude Hammer, 71, passed away on Nov. 20 at his home in Loveland, Colo. Born on Oct. 23, 1940 in Great Bend, he was the son of Carl and June (Keenan) Hammer. He grew up on a farm west of Ellinwood. In 1958, he graduated from Ellinwood High School. He attended Fort Hays State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts in Political Science. He then attended the University of Kansas where he received his Judicial Degree. William D. Witcraft, 87, of Great Bend, died Nov. 26 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born April 21, 1924, in Fairfax, Okla., he was the son of Chauncey and Mattie Smith Witcraft. He married Marian McAfee. They later divorced. He then married Betty Schiewe. She died in July of 2009. A long-time resident of Barton County, he was a retired oilfield perforator. He enjoyed playing golf.
VICTORIA - Robert F. (Bob) Unrein, 72, died Nov. 25 at his home in Victoria. Born Feb. 18, 1939, in Hays, he was the son of Peter C. and Lucida (Schutz) Unrein. He married Rose Marie (Brungardt) on June 13, 1964, at Victoria. A resident of Victoria since 1964, he was a sheet metal worker employed by Charles Leiker Plumbing and Heating, Midland Inc., and 30 years for Glassman Corp., all in Hays.
Florence J. Debes, 75, of Great Bend, died Nov. 24 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born April 2, 1936, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of John A. and Helen F. (Huslig) Debes. She lived on the farm where she was born until she moved to Odin in 1980 with her parents. Her mother died in 1987 and she lived with her father until he died in 1999, when she moved to Great Bend, as a client of Rosewood Services.
MANHATTAN - Paul Wesley Brown, 83, longtime resident of Manhattan, passed away on Nov. 21 at Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan. Born on Dec. 3, 1927, in Great Bend, he was the son of Alice Ruth (Tullis) and Thomas Logan Brown. Paul was raised in Great Bend and graduated from high school in 1945. In 1949 he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. On April 17, 1951, at the Danforth Chapel on the Kansas State University campus, he married Joanne Frudden. She preceded him in death on July 10, 2005.
GARFIELD - Leroy T. Hickman, 82, died Nov. 24 at Larned Healthcare Center, Larned. He was born Jan. 12, 1929, at Henderson, Ark., the son of Olin and Sarah Wood Hickman. On Dec. 8, 1951, he married Maxine M. Lackey at Mountain Home, Ark. She survives. A longtime resident of Garfield, he was a mechanic and Garfield City Maintenance.
Roy Lee Jurgensen, 88, died Nov. 24 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Barton County, the son of Fred H. and Alma W. (Schuster) Jurgensen. He married Eunice Mae Davidson on May 16, 1951, at Great Bend. She died Sept. 1, 1980. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was road maintenance foreman for Barton County Highway Department for 41 years, retiring in 1987.
ST. JOHN - Dorotha M. "Dody" Curtis, 93, died Nov. 22 in Stafford. Born Jan. 5, 1918, at St. John, she was the daughter of Nicholas E. and Mabel C. (Aleshire) Baker. She graduated from St. John High School in 1936. On Aug. 6, 1936, she married Robert George Curtis at El Reno, Okla. He preceded her in death. A lifetime resident of St. John, she was a homemaker.
KINGMAN - Jim Kathman, 50, died June 25, 2015. Born April 9, 1965, in Garden City, he was the son of Richard and Emily Henning Kathman. A Kansas resident since 1980, he was a former oil field employee and salesman.
Darlene R. Hunt, 84, of Great Bend, passed away at her home in Great Bend on Saturday morning, June 27, 2015, after a brief illness. Born on March 5, 1931, at Alexander, she was the daughter of Walter H. and Minnie (Krug) Boese. In 1947, she graduated from Alexander High School and worked for the former Parsons-Williams Funeral Home (now Prairie Rose Funeral Home) in Anthony for 15 years. Francisco DeJesus Adame, 77, passed away on June 27, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born on Aug. 17, 1937, at Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico, he was the son of Francisco Adame Flores and Rosalia Rey. Francisco was united in marriage to Librada Tavarez Carrasco on May 25, 1962, at Rancho El Tubo Manuel Benavidez, Mexico. He farmed for much of his life, and enjoyed raising cattle. ELLINWOOD - Reinder Carl Ringwald, 92, died on June 22, 2015, in Great Bend. Born June 19, 1923, in rural Rice County he was the son of Reinder W. and Arrendiena (Soeken) Ringwald. On May 18, 1952, he married Edna Claudine Ewalt in Great Bend. She survives. A lifetime resident of rural Rice County and Ellinwood, he was a farmer/stockman until his retirement in 2010.
Ellen Louise Berry, 82, passed away June 16, 2015, at Hays Medical Center. Born April 30, 1933, in Kinsley, she was the daughter of Leslie Clarence and Martha (Amrine) Mack. On Jan. 6, 1951, she married Robert Clyde Berry in Larned. She was a Licensed Mental Health Technician retiring after 32 years at Larned State Hospital. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and other handmade crafts. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading all types of books including mysteries, time travel, historical and romance novels.
HUGOTON - Dolores Nadine (George) Foltz, 86, died on June 19, 2015, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton. Born Dec. 13, 1928, in Anthony, she was the daughter of Audra and Bernice (Feely) George. On June 22, 1947, she married Jack H. Foltz in Anthony at the First Congressional Church. She was a resident of Great Bend for 65 years. She loved her children and grandchildren, cooking, and gardening. She loved helping family and friends, she enjoyed gardening.
HOISINGTON - David J. Wondra, 55, died June 28, 2015 at University Of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City. Born June 23, 1960 at Hoisington, he was the son of Bernard and Mary Ann (Maneth) Wondra. He was a lifetime resident of Hoisington.
Brenda Ann Barger, 58, died June 25, 2015, at her home in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 17, 1956, at Salina, to Bob Bruce and Beverly Ann (Holdren) Burgard. She married Steve Barger Nov. 21, 1992, at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident since 1979, coming from Salina, she was a homemaker and foster mother.
LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - David Wayne Bowman, 55, died June 24, 2015, at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence, Missouri. He was born Oct. 13, 1959, at Larned, to Howard and Carole (Unruh) Bowman. He was a 1977 graduate of Macksville High School and graduated from Barton County Community College, Emporia State University and the University of Kansas. A longtime Kansas City area resident, he was a custodian for the Lee's Summit School District.
