ELLINWOOD - Frederick W. Feist, 83, died Oct 14 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1927, in rural Claflin, the son of Anthony L. and Eva Christoph Feist. He married Katherine Kimpler on Nov. 11, 1952, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ellinwood. A lifetime Barton County resident, her was a retired welder and a partner in Rollins Bit Service, Ellinwood. He also was a driver for the senior citizens' bus, Ellinwood.
TOPEKA - Milford L. Zimmerman, 69, of Topeka, died Oct. 12 at the Eventide Convalescent Center, Topeka. He was born Oct. 29, 1940, at La Crosse, the son of Frank and Virginia A. (Greenway) Zimmerman. He was a resident of Topeka for more than 10 years, moving from Salina. He was a 1962 graduate of Hays High School, Hays. He was retired from the United States Army.
BRANSON, Mo. - Robert C. Sloan Sr., 74, of Branson, passed away Friday, Oct. 8, in Branson. Private services will be held at a later date. The body has been cremated under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson.
ELLSWORTH - Elma G. Soukup, 93, died Oct. 12 in Wilson. She was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Ellsworth County, to Joseph and Mattie (Belt) Zelenka. A lifetime resident of the area, she was a homemaker and farm wife. On Nov. 22, 1938, she married Emil H. Soukup in Ellsworth. He preceded her in death June 26, 1992.
James Francis "Jim" Heaton, 83, died Oct. 10 at Wichita Specialty Hospital, Wichita. He was born Dec. 12, 1926, at Great Bend, the son of Clarence F. and Pearl (Gill) Heaton.
EUGENE, Ore. - Marvin Alan Vollmer, 85, died Aug. 22 of age-related causes.
Samuel Clay, of Chicago, Ill., died Oct. 7 in Chicago. He was 86 years old.
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - Armella Ann Edwards, 85, died Oct. 10 at Franciscan Villa of Broken Arrow in Broken Arrow, Okla. She was born June 17, 1925, on the Dreiling farm northwest of Hays, the youngest of 10 children. Her parents were Aloise and Anna (Herl) Dreiling. She married James Lawrence Edwards Sr. on May 5, 1945, at Norfolk, Va. He died Nov. 9, 1986. She was employed by American Parts in Great Bend and was also a homemaker and caretaker of her husband.
CLAFLIN - Larry Gene Garrett, 60, died Oct. 7 at his home in Claflin. He was born July 25, 1950, at Forrest City, Ark., the son of Carlton Daniel and Luna Winona (Beard) Garrett. He married June Agnes Arends on Feb. 27, 1975, at Great Bend. A Claflin resident since 1974, coming from Schell City, Mo., he was a self-employed truck driver.
WICHITA - Nicholas Ryan Reichuber, 23, passed away Oct. 8 in Wichita. He was born July 20, 1987, in Crystal City. Mo. He graduated from WTI in computer networking.
Ms. Cynthia Barnes, 53, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sept. 16. She was born on April 23, 1957, in Great Bend, the only daughter of Christian and Rosalie Peters Leiker. She graduated from Great Bend High School after receiving her elementary education at Holy Family Grade School. She then proceeded to earn her bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University in Hays. Cynthia also earned a master's degree from Loyola University in New Orleans. She lived in several locations throughout the Midwest and Southwest United States, where she lovingly raised her children ...
CLAFLIN - Anthony (Tony) Albert Hoffman, 82, died Oct. 7 at Golden Living Center in Wilson. Born Dec. 9, 1927, in rural Claflin, he was the son of Anton and Winifred (Dolechek) Hoffman. He graduated in 1945 from Claflin High School, and attended Wichita State University, was a member of ROTC, and the University of Kansas. On June 1, 1950, he married Caroline Birzer in Hoisington. A lifetime resident of rural Claflin, he was a farmer/stockman and an adjuster for Federal Crop Insurance.
ELLINWOOD - Raymond Petz, 82, died Oct. 5 at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 5, 1928, at Ellinwood, the son of Edwin A. and Margaret Klepper Petz. He married Bernice Moos on Dec. 30, 1947, at Ellinwood. A lifetime Ellinwood resident, he was owner of Ray Petz Interior/Exterior Decorating in Ellinwood.
JETMORE - Norman Olson, 64, died Oct. 4 at his home in Jetmore. Born Sept. 29, 1946, in Dodge City, he was the son of Carl and Velma Anderson Olson. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer.
CONCORDIA - Phyllis A. Winter, 74, died March 5 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. Born on Nov. 20, 1939, in Concordia, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Cote) Breen. She graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School. On Feb. 24, 1958, she married Willis "Willie" D. Winter. She was a secretary/bookkeeper for Palmquist Drug Store, Associate Financial and various other businesses.
PAWNEE ROCK - Norma Pauline Kasselman, 96, passed away March 5 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born July 17, 1917, in Columbus, she was the daughter of Emma (LeCleff) and James Argyle. She was a lifetime resident of Pawnee Rock. On June 5, 1937, she married Emmett "Johnny" Kasselman in Ellinwood. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 2001.
ELLINWOOD - Bernice Ida Koch, 99, died March 6 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. She was born March 16, 1914, at Alden, the daughter of Claud E. and Emma Louise (Reiser) Parker. She graduated from Alden High School in 1932. On March 10, 1935, she married Harry Koch at Alden, he preceded her in death. A life-long resident of Barton and Rice counties, she was a retired secretary and agent with Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. as well as a homemaker.

WILSON - Michael Lee Stevenson, 66, died March 3 at his home in Wilson. He was born Aug. 11, 1947 in Great Bend to Harold and Helen (Read) Stevenson.
LINCOLN, Neb. - Kenneth E. Kaiser, 91, passed away Jan. 13, in Crete, Neb. He was born Nov. 21, 1922 in Shaffer, the son of John and Rachel (Hanhardt) Kaiser.
HOISINGTON -Merle Steiner, 81, of Hoisington died Monday, March 3 at Golden Living Center in Wakefield. He was born Nov. 14, 1932 at Odin, the son of Louis and Lenora (Ummel) Steiner.
LARNED - Barbara J. Erway, 70, died March 2, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born April 5, 1943, in Sumiton, Ala., she was the daughter of Houston and Lilly Fortenberry Greathouse. Moving from Alabama in 1956, she was a longtime area resident of Larned and a Registered Nurse at Larned State Hospital. On June 13, 1962, she married Leonard L. Erway in Larned. He survives. She loved spoiling her grandchildren, going on camping trips and traveling.
LINCOLN - James William Grandy, 63, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on March 1, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina. He was born Dec. 29, 1950, in Great Bend, the son of the late Iva Mae (Vesper) and Harold Lee Grandy.
Barb Schumacher, 74, died Feb. 27 at the Hays Medical Center. Born Jan. 8, 1940, in Ness City, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Pearlann (Reynolds) Petersilie. On Dec. 5, 1981, she married Ken Schumacher in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1957, coming from Bazine, she was co-owner and operator of Kansas Door, worked in several flower shops, was an administrative secretary at Fuller Brush and was an Avon representative for 20 years. She enjoyed fishing, water sports and traveling, especially, wintering in Texas. Her true love was spending time with her grandchildren.
Neuell G. Nicolet, 91, formerly of Great Bend, passed away Feb. 27 in Augusta. Born Oct. 2, 1922, in Great Bend, he was the son of the late Ed and Inez (Gaunt) Nicolet. In 1941, he graduated from Great Bend High School. He was a retired farmer.
John E. Taylor, 85, died Feb. 27 at Great Bend Regional Hospital.
Orval E. Weeks, 86, died Feb. 26 at Sterling House in Great Bend. Born May 16, 1927, in Russell County, he was the son of Marion B. and Edith I. (Ross) Weeks. On March 20, 1949 Orval married Virginia L. Campbell in Hoisington. She preceded him in death on June 25, 2005.
