BARNARD, Mo. - May Joan Field Tompkins, 88, of Barnard, Mo., passed away March 20, at Parkdale Manor in Maryville, Mo. Born May 14, 1922, in Brentford, England, she was the daughter of Herbert and Fanny (Ricks) Field. She worked in a munitions plant during World War II, making shell casings. Joan married Raymond Lee Tompkins on Feb. 5, 1944, in St. Lawrence Church of England, Brentford, England, becoming a "War Bride." HOISINGTON - Marion Jean Hicks, 49, died March 18 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born Jan. 31, 1962, in Newport, R.I., the daughter of Eugene and Marion (Hendry) Benavidez. She married Gordon Hicks on April 15, 2004, at Hoisington. She was a homemaker and had been a Hoisington resident since 2001, coming from Alva, Okla.
Robert "Bobby" Kasper Jr., 34, died March 18 in Barton County. Born Oct. 16, 1976, in Wichita, he was the son of Robert Wayne and Peggy (Lietzke) Kasper Sr. A resident of Great Bend since 1980, coming from El Dorado, he was a truck driver for Sioux Tank Service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, drag racing, motorcycle riding and automotive work.
Fort Dodge - Dale E. "Gene" O'Connor, 75, died Feb. 27 at Fort Dodge. He was born Jan. 12, 1936, at Hoisington, the son of John William and Nola (Colhour) O'Connor.
ELLINWOOD - Marlene K. Robl, 79, died March 20 at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. She was born Dec. 27, 1931, at Spearville, the daughter of Wilbert "Bill" and Irene (Kern) Schawe. A homemaker, she had been an Ellinwood resident since 1956, coming from Great Bend.

BURDETT - Jack D. Delaney, 77, died March 17. He was born on the family farm in Ness County, on May 2, 1933, to Harvey and Esther Delaney. Jack graduated from Ness City High School in 1951. In 1954, he enlisted in the Army, and received his honorable discharge in 1956. He continued to serve his country as a member of the Army Reserve until 1962. "Charlie" Marvin and Della Hendrix Marvin. She graduated from La Crosse Rural High School in 1952. On June 13, 1953, she married Howard Yost in La Crosse. She was the church organist, pianist and soloist at the Evangelical United Brethren Church and Columbia Street United Methodist Churches in La Crosse.

LARNED - Glenn Scott Presley, 66, died Sept. 21, at Mayo's St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Min. Born Feb. 8, 1948, in Wichita, he was the son of Glenn and Ruby Elzey Presley. On Dec. 31, 1967, he married Linda Walker in Marquette. She survives. After graduating from McPherson College, he moved to Larned to begin teaching high school industrial arts classes. He managed the Larned Swimming Pool for 25 years. He was a loving husband, a caring father, and a very proud grandpa.
Paul J. Heueisen, 84, former longtime Great Bend resident, passed away on Sept. 19, at Protection Valley Manor in Protection. Born on May 23, 1930, in Lancaster, Calif., he was the son of Louis Steven and Margaret Mary (Murray) Heueisen. In 1936, he moved to Great Bend with his family, and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1945. He worked as a custodian for various businesses in the Great Bend area. He enjoyed reading.

SALINA - David C. Gardiner, 54, died Sept. 20. Born Jan. 11, 1960, in Larned, he was the son of Gordon A. and Mary Anne (McConahay) Gardiner. In 1978, he graduated from Salina High School South. He joined the Army after he graduated from high school and was stationed in Europe for many years as a food inspector for the Army. He graduated from K-State with a degree in food science. He worked at the Great Bend Packing plant in Great Bend before retiring in Salina.
