PRATT - Marian J. Epp, 79, of Pratt, went quietly from this earth to her eternal peace on May 3. She was born on Dec. 24, 1931, near Cullison, to Billy C. and Alma Jenkins. Marian married Paul G. Epp on Nov. 28, 1953, and was a member of the Lutheran Church.
ST. JOHN - Jeffrey T. Gleason, 17, died May 24, in rural Stafford County. Born Oct. 11, 1993, at Great Bend, he was the son of Jim and Linda S. (Reynolds) Gleason. A lifetime resident of St. John, he completed his Junior year at St. John High School.
ST. JOHN - Linda S. Gleason, 56, died May 24 in rural Stafford County. Born March 24, 1955, in Belleville, she was the daughter of Kenneth E. and Shirley J. (Kindler) Reynolds. A resident of St. John since 1985, she was a teacher for the USD 350 St. John-Hudson school system, a 1973 graduate of Galesburg High School in Galesburg, Ill., and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Western Illinois University. She also worked for the Stafford County Extension Service in St. John.
HOISINGTON - Harry S. Witterstaetter, III, 78, died May 27 at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Feb. 17, 1933 at Texarkana, Texas, the son of Harry S. and Hollis (Kegley) Witterstaetter, Jr.
ELLINWOOD - Wayne Elden Hanna, 73, died on May 7. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on June 4 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Bentley with U.S. Army military honors with the Rev. Bill Johnson officiating.
WICHITA - Maxton Foster Burkey, two months, died May 26 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. He was born March 31, 2011 at Wichita. His parents are Kevin and Kelci (Boxberger) Burkey of Wichita. Although his life was cheated in time, he immensely impacted the lives of his loving family. Always squirming, he enjoyed baths, having his hair brushed, and snuggling with his mommy and daddy. He was a very happy, content baby of God.

GREAT BEND - Melba J. Helm Sunley, 82, died May 24 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend.
NEODESHA - Kenneth "Tiny" Raymond Unrein died Jan. 24, 2015, at his home in Neodesha. Born Sept. 21, 1943, in La Crosse, he was the son of Jacob and Abby Unrein. He attended school in La Crosse. He was employed at a packing plant, roofing and construction and was a truck driver at Airosal Inc.
HAYS - Melvin J. "Mel" Schreiber, 83, died Jan. 25, 2015, at Hays Medical Center. Born Dec. 19, 1931, in Great Bend, he was the son of Fred and Margaret (Mauler) Schreiber. On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Frances L. "Frankie" (Musick) in Hutchinson. She died April 3, 2012. He was director of fleet maintenance for Becker Corporation in El Dorado for 21 years. He also worked 11 years at Thompson Transport in McPherson. In 2008 he moved to Hays from Andover.
EMPORIA - Walter L. Graham, 93, of Emporia, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. Walter was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Liberal, the son of Logan and Margaret (Bruce) Graham. He attended Pratt Junior College, Independence Junior College and Wichita State University.
HOLYROOD - Norma Ruth Schaefer, 88, passed away Jan. 25 at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellsworth. She was born June 10, 1926, in Lincoln, to Anna E. (Bahls) and Neils M. Pedersen.
PAWNEE ROCK - Hazel "Alberta" Crone, 89, died Jan. 24, at her home in rural Pawnee Rock. Born July 12, 1925, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of George Albert and Hazel Olive (Colgin) Payne. On June 26, 1942, she married Francis "Roy" Crone in Iola. He died on Nov. 19, 2007. A resident of Barton County most of her life, she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
HOISINGTON - Gloria K Zamarripa, 66, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born July 14, 1948, the daughter of Fred Ray and Alice (Rohr) Kincaid. Gloria married Frank Zamarripa April 4, 1964 at Great Bend. He died May 6, 1989.
Charley Hoffsmith, 67, died Jan. 24, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital, after a long battle with colon cancer. He was born July 4, 1947, at Dighton, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Marie (Orten) Hoffsmith. A long-time resident of Great Bend, he was the owner and operator of Charley's Tree Service.

ELLINWOOD - Sue Elizabeth Ballantine, 67, died Jan. 22, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. She was born on Feb. 28, 1947, to Donald H. and Violet Ann (Schartz) Ballantine. Sue was a resident of Wichita for 35 years and formerly of Ellinwood, KS. She retired from Boeing in 1998 where she worked for 20 years.
Gary Lee Campbell, 73, died Jan. 22, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 26, 1941, in St. Elmo, Illinois, he was the son of Emerson and Mildred Louise (Koberlein) Campbell. On April 4, 1961, he married Margaret Rose Debes in Great Bend. She died on July 31, 2013. A Great Bend resident since 1958, he worked in the oilfield and then was a fabricator for Doonan Trailer.

BELLA VISTA, Ark. - JoAnn Hlavaty, 87, died Jan. 15, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers, Ark. Born Sept. 25, 1927, she was the daughter of Francis and Eveline Barland. On Oct. 14, 1967, she married Donald Hlavaty of Olmitz. JoAnn and Donald lived in the Olmitz area until 1982 when they retired and moved to Bella Vista, Ark.
RUSSELL - Verlin E. "Buster" Humphrey, 67, passed away Jan. 19, at the Hays Medical Center. Born April 12, 1947, in Great Bend, he was the son of Kenneth "K.D." and Ruth (Pearce) Humphrey. He graduated from Russell High School and attended Kansas State University. On April 24, 1980, he was united in marriage to Linda Harmon in Salina. He was employed by Southern States Oil Company, later known as Lasmo Oil Company, as a pumper and made his way up to Regional Production Manager. He then worked for over 13 years for the Kansas Lottery, retiring in 2011 as ...
LARNED - Peggy J. Thompson, 61, passed away Jan. 19, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita. Born July 6, 1953, in Hoisington, she was the daughter of John H. and Marjorie Wagner Niewald. On Dec. 17, 1983, she married Kelly Thompson. They later divorced. A longtime area resident, she worked at the Larned State Hospital for 23 ½ years as a LMHT.
