HOISINGTON - Clarence A. Redetzke, 80, died Jan. 3 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born April 24, 1930, at Hoisington, the son of Leo C. and Cecelia C. (Schauf) Redetzke. He married Martha A. Hawes Nov. 3, 1951, at Fort Smith, Ark. She died Oct. 22, 2010. A lifetime Susank/Hoisington resident, he was a retired farmer/rancher.
Teresa Murray, 62, of Great Bend, died Jan. 2 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born May 23, 1948, at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Maurice and Virginia (Suellentrop) Roach. She married Daniel Murray on Jan. 9, 1976, in Great Bend. A life-long resident of Great Bend, she worked as a secretary for Western & Southern Life Ins. Co. for a number of years.
FLORISSANT, Colo. - James E. "Jim" Johnson, 60, died Jan. 2 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born June 6, 1950, at Alva, Okla., the son of Harold E. and Elaine (Lane) Johnson. A Florissant, Colo., resident for 30 years, coming from Cave Junction, Ore., he owned a Jim Johnson's Services.

ST. JOHN - Genevieve Scalzi Hull, 75, died Jan. 1 at her home in St. John. Services are pending with Minnis Chapel in St. John.
ELLINWOOD - Maurice Francis Thul, 87, died Jan. 1 at his home in Ellinwood. Born April 16, 1923, in Ellinwood, he was the son of John and Ida Dorothea Mayer Thul. On Feb. 14, 1949, he married Maxine W. Strodtmann in Ellinwood. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, he retired in 1988 after 35 years with the City of Ellinwood, retiring as superintendent of the Water and Sewer Department. He was a volunteer fireman for 28 years and for 12 years was the Fire Chief in Ellinwood.
HOLYROOD - Edith B. Schultz, 89, died Dec. 31 in Ellsworth. She was born, June 16, 1921, in Holyrood, to Frederick and Amanda (Cushman) Schepmann.
LARNED - Charles L. Pfenninger, 93, died Dec. 31, 2010 at Larned Healthcare Center. He was born Jan. 29, 1917, near Rozel, the son of Louis J. and Ora Grace Renfro Pfenninger. On March 1, 1941, he married Della G. Eilts at Yuma, Ariz. She died Jan. 26, 2003. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, he retired from Roth Equipment Company as vice president and was a farm machinery salesman for 40 years.
Edwin O. Hiss, 79, of Great Bend, died Dec. 29 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 9, 1931, at Great Bend, the son of Fred Henry and Mary Bertha (Janne) Hiss. He married Violet Krentzel on April 29, 1967, at Great Bend. A lifetime Barton County resident, he was a farmer and stockman.

ARKANSAS CITY - Russell Allen Davis, 79, of Arkansas City died Dec. 30 at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center ICU in Arkansas City. Russell was born Nov. 1, 1931, to David and Lena (Hester) Davis on a farm in Galatia. He was reared and educated in Galatia.
MALVERN Ark. - Agatha M. (Esfeld) Cuzick Reeves, 91, died Dec. 29 at The Crossing in Malvern, Ark. She was born March 9, 1919, at Great Bend, the daughter of Fred, Sr. and Frances (Monger) Esfeld. She married Glenn E. Cuzick on Aug. 17, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1969. At the ripe old age of 83, she married Donald Reeves, and he preceded her in death in 2003. Gordon L. Young, 69, died Dec. 28 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born March 12, 1941, at Pratt, the son of LeRoy Franklin and Phylotis Iona (Chance) Young. He married Donna Jean McGrath on March 12, 1961, at Sun City. A Great Bend resident since 1966, coming from Pratt, he was a salesman for Log-Tech Inc.
TOPEKA - Donald R. Haberman, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Dec. 27. Don was born on May 14, 1944, in Great Bend, the son of Alex and Augusta (Koriel) Haberman. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1962, from Fort Hays State University with his bachelor's degree in 1966 and with his master's degree in industrial arts in 1969. Don was united in holy matrimony to Rosanne Horning on July 18, 1970, in Ransom.
Diana D. Reynolds, 66, died July 17, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born on Nov. 19, 1947, in Berkeley, W.V. She married David L. Reynolds. Diana was a caseworker.
Kenneth Harold Allen, 86, died July 31, at Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1928, in Great Bend, he was the son of James Martin and Bertha (Piel) Allen. On April 28, 1952, he married Maude Evalene Russell in Salem, Ark. She died on Aug. 8, 2007. A lifetime resident of Great Bend he was a carpenter for Marlette Homes.
HUTCHINSON - Paul E. Campbell, 69, died July 7, at his home. Born Oct. 9, 1944, in Great Bend, he was the son of Emerson and Mildred Campbell.

REDFORD, Mich. - Robert Lynn Humphrey, 71, died July 23 in Redford, Mich. Born May 18, 1943, in Great Bend, he was the son of Henry Ray and Lenora Caroline (Ochs) Humphrey. In 1961, he graduated from Hoisington High School and then attended Kansas State University. He eventually moved to Michigan where he worked for Nielsen TV Ratings and then for a trucking company until his retirement.
OLMITZ - Milton Alois Yarmer, 88, died July 25 at his home in Olmitz. Born May 17, 1926, at Russell County, he was the son of Frank Rudolph and Marie (Demel) Yarmer. Milton married Mary Agnes Gleissner May 26, 1948, at Olmitz. She died July 12, 2006.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Bradley K. Brann, 64, of Kansas City, Mo., passed suddenly on July 24. He was born Jan. 12, 1950, in Abilene, to Dorothy and Hilton Brann. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School and Fort Hays State University. He taught at Southeast Missouri University, followed by a career in sales and real estate.
HUTCHINSON - Mark A. Bomgardner, 51, of Hutchinson, went home to be with his Savior, July 27 at Reno County Hospice House. He may have lost his battle with cancer, but he conquered the grave when he accepted Christ as his savior. He was born May 31, 1963 in Joplin, MO, the son of Bob and Judy Allen Bomgardner. He was a 1981 graduate of Dodge City High School, and received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Fort Hays State University. He was a Hutchinson resident for the past 15 years moving from Great Bend.
SPEARVILLE - Susie Ackerman, 95, died July 26, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. Born March 7, 1919, in Pratt, she was the daughter of Michael and Alice Duncan Shanley. On Oct. 2, 1951, she married John F. Ackerman in Pratt. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2003. An area resident since 1951, she was a homemaker.

Lyle E. Schaben, 89, died July 26 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. He was born Aug. 27, 1924, at Bazine, the son of John and Verda (Ryersee) Schaben. Mr. Schaben was a graduate of Bazine High School. He married Nathalie J. Borger Feb. 15, 1947, at Bazine. She died June 22, 2012. Raised on the family farm, he began farming as a young man and he and Nathalie raised their family in the house built by Lyle's father. Jerry Mitchell Jones, 76, died July 24, at Hospice House of Reno County in Hutchinson. Born Dec. 13, 1937, in Hutchinson, he was the son of Ray and Marjorie (Swann) Jones. On March 12, 1958, he married Nelta Irene Simpson in Great Bend. She died on Dec. 3, 1997. A lifetime resident of Great Bend and Seward, he was the owner and operator of the J&J Cafe in Seward until 1997.
