HOISINGTON - Theresa M. Ney, 98, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died April 30 at Golden Living Center, Wilson. Born Aug. 8, 1916, she was the daughter of Paul Dolechek, Sr. and Anna (Weber) Dolechek.
HOISINGTON - Ivan H. Christy, 88, died April 30, 2015, at Country Place Senior Living, Hoisington. He was born Feb. 9, 1927, at Kansas City, Mo., to Ivan H. and Anna (Tillisch) Christy. He married Mary Louise Kircher Feb. 7, 1949, at Paola. They were later divorced. Ivan then married Gwenola Bagley Ochs March 21, 1970, at Hoisington. She died April 30, 2007.
ELLINWOOD - Bernita K. (Urban) Schloemer-Clair, 83, passed away April 27, 2015, at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born on Dec. 27, 1931, in Rush County, she was the daughter of Wendelin and Rosemary (Leiker) Urban. In 1949, she graduated from La Crosse High School. On June 20, 1954, she married Millard Schloemer in Great Bend. He died Feb. 22, 1982. She later married Ural G. (Jack) Clair in Ellinwood, on Dec. 7, 1990. She worked as a secretary for USD 403 in Bison and as an operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in La Crosse.
HOISINGTON - LeRoy George Schartz Jr., 62, died April 22, 2015, at his home in Hoisington. Born May 3, 1952, in Great Bend, he was the son of LeRoy George and Viola Marie (Hermann) Schartz. He married Sharon Holcomb. They were later divorced. He recently moved to Hoisington from Great Bend, where he had worked in both the carpentry and automotive repair trades. A longtime area resident of Larned then moving to Austin, Texas, he was an Licensed Mental Health Technician and later changed positions to Activity Therapist at the Larned State Hospital. Stan Nelson, 52, of Great Bend died April 26, 2015, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born Oct. 13, 1962, at Council Grove, to Byron Keith and Carolyn (Parsons) Nelson. He married Joyce Klassen Dec. 6, 1996, at Great Bend. Stan had been a Great Bend resident since 1970, coming from Lawrence. Formerly operating and managing the family business, Schendel Weed and Pest Control, Stan currently worked for Barton County Road and Bridge Department.
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - Muriel S. Machal, 91, died April 25, at Cheyenne Mountain Care Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Born Jan. 13, 1924, in Kinsley, she was the daughter of Ray and Ida (Robbins) Stewart. On April 3, 1957, she married Joseph Anthony Machal in Great Bend, He died on Dec. 21, 1992. A resident of Colorado Springs, Colo. for seven years, coming from Great Bend, she was an insurance and financial planner for L.C. Harmon Agency.
Funeral services for Richard D. Mitchell, who died on May 25, 2015, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monda, June 1, at the First Assembly of God. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
PAWNEE ROCK - John L. "Jack" Godin, 76, died May 25, 2015, at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita. Born March 24, 1939, in Tupper Lake, N.Y., he was the son of Frank and Marion (Prespare) Godin. On Oct. 31, 1981, he married Mildred Gable in Great Bend. A resident of Pawnee Rock for six years, coming from Great Bend, he was a heavy equipment operator in the oilfield and later worked for maintenance at Great Bend Housing Authority.
Erwin "Erv" Leiker, 81, Great Bend, died May 24, 2015, at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Hays the son of Leo and Angela (Klaus) Leiker. On Nov. 8, 1958, he married Janet Grace Burgardt in Pfeifer. She died May 6, 2000. He was a retired oilfield worker and was a Hays High School graduate.
Ruth Marie Cannon, 79, died May 23, 2015, at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born May 16, 1936, at Dodge City, the daughter of Hillary and Ruth Borne. She married Manford G. "Bud" Cannon Oct. 29, 1949, at Boone, Arkansas. He died Dec. 7, 1982. A long-time Great Bend resident, she was an accounts payable clerk for Great Bend Manufacturing.
ODIN - Gerald W. "Jerry" Beran, 88, died May 21, 2015, at Almost Home, Great Bend. He was born Sept. 9, 1926, on the farm in Odin, the son of Anton A. and Hattie Rose (Prosser) Beran. He graduated from Odin High School in 1944 and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After returning from the military, Jerry played professional baseball for the Hutchinson Elks.
Delores Rae Keegan, 83, died May 23, 2015, at Sterling House of Great Bend. She was born Aug. 23, 1931, at Little River, the daughter of Ray and Elsie (Eaton) Folck. Mrs. Keegan was a Great Bend resident and taught public school for 39 years, the last 30 years in Great Bend at Morrison and Jefferson Elementary Schools.
Louis Wintholz, 83, passed from this world to join his beloved wife Phyllis, in heaven on May 22, 2015, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Collyer, the son of Reinholdt "Ray" and Mary (Windholz) Wintholz. He attended school in Collyer and graduated from the Hays Cadets Academy in 1950. He married Phyllis Montgomery on May 8, 1954, at Hearndon. She passed away on Feb. 15, 2008.
Sister Marie Klein, 102, died May 21, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters' Convent Infirmary, Great Bend. Born April 25, 1913, in Fowler, as Mary Ann Agatha Klein, Sister Marie was the daughter of Anthony and Mary Helen (Hoffman) Klein. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community July 14, 1928, and pronounced her first vows August 17, 1931. She celebrated 80 years of religious profession in 2011.
GREENFIELD, Ind. - Marlin "Gene" Tammen, 79, passed away May 22, 2015, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on Dec.27, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Herman Tammen and Gladys Tammen. In 1953, he graduated from Great Bend High School. He received his Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Wichita State University. In October of 1956, he married Cheryl Loy (Foos). He held various positions in the Federal Government from 1962-1987, including Midwest Director of the Office of Personnel Management.
