Ruthetta R. Irvin, 91, La Crosse, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, La Crosse. Mrs. Irvin was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Otis, Kansas, the daughter of Benjamin and Susanna (Brack) Brack.
Lucile M. (Cosandier) Berges, 98, formerly of Onaga, passed away Jan. 12, 2016, at the River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend. Born June 27, 1917, at Onaga, she was the daughter of Philip and Leah Rossier Cosandier. On May 23, 1943, she married Glenn L. Berges at Onaga. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2000. She graduated from Onaga High School and from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Secondary Education. She retired from the teaching profession in 1981.
GARFIELD - Emma E. Olson, 93, passed away Jan. 12, 2016, at her home in Garfield. Emma Emelia was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Garfield, the daughter of Albert and Esther Peterson Mostrom. A lifetime Garfield resident she worked for the United States Post Office as part time clerk in Garfield and Lewis for 15 years. She also worked for Unified School District 495 as secretary of the Garfield School for 17 years. HOISINGTON - Larry Lee Klein, 55, of Hitschmann, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2016, at his home. Larry was born on Feb. 12, 1960, in Hoisington, the son of Larry and Helen Klein. He grew up and attended school in Hoisington and never strayed far from his Barton County roots.
LARNED - John E. Carlson Jr., 74, passed away Jan. 9, 2016, at St. Lukes Hospital, Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Mo. Born May 28, 1941, in Dodge City, he was the son of John E. and Pauline Preston Carlson. He was raised in Jetmore and graduated from Jetmore High School. On Jan. 28, 1966, he married Bonnie Bunting at the First Christian Church in Larned. She survives. A longtime area resident, he was a truck driver for Doerr Metal Products and also worked at Ralph Baird Motors.
RUSSELL - Estella Helen "Cobbie" Rogg, 98, passed away Jan. 4, 2016, at the Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec. 24, 1917, at her parents' home in Bunker Hill. She grew up in Bunker Hill and graduated from Bunker Hill High School. She then attended two years at a Business College in Hutchinson. On Oct. 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Earl Rogg in Hays. She was a farmer's wife and homemaker. In 1958, the couple moved into Russell. Earl preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1996.
BISON - Lora Marie (Lauer) Kaus, 58, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at rural Bison. Born June 2, 1957, in Hays, she was the daughter of Anthony and Shirley Lauer. In 1975 she graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Beloit. On Dec. 29, 1984, she married Michael "Mike" Kaus at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken. A resident of Rush County since 1984, moving there from Beloit, she was a homemaker and spent most of her time canning whatever was in season, gardening, and with her grandchildren.
ELLINWOOD - Betty J. Loewen, 80, was born in a farm house in rural Meade County, March 9, 1935 to John H and Elizabeth Harder. Betty received Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young girl. Betty attended her church, grade school and graduated from a parochial high school, as Salutatorian, all within a few miles from her family home. She graduated from Grace University, Omaha, Neb., with a three-year degree in Biblical Studies.
BROOKVILLE - Robert Dean Miller, 73, passed away Jan. 7, 2016. Born Oct. 30, 1942, in Boulder, Colo., he was the son of the Mary Treca (Phillips) Miller-Widener and Edwin V. Miller. On Jan. 1, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Adella N. Benjamin in Smith Center. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at Smoky Hill, LLC, in Salina until he retired.
TULSA, Okla. - Bonnie M. Clough, 88, died Dec. 30, 2015. Born Sept. 11, 1927, on the family farm near Lorraine, she was the daughter of Henry and Mary A. (Heiken) Springfeldt. She attended grade school at Lorraine and graduated from High School at Holyrood. In 1946, she attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla. where she met and married her husband Randall M. Clough. Bonnie graduated from Tulsa University and then became a C.P.A. She was a financial officer for Never Fail Builders for many years.
