Greg Schaben, 29, of Great Bend, died Oct. 27 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born July 31, 1981, at Great Bend, the son of Johnny and Yolanda (Schaben) Schaben. He was a truck driver for Farm Service Center and a lifetime Great Bend resident.
Danny K. Crane, 62, of Great Bend, died Oct. 26 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. He was born Oct. 22, 1948, at Abilene, the son of Donald and Katherine (Barlow) Crane. He married Hazel Crane on Dec. 31, 1967, at Great Bend. He was publication editor for Lockheed Missiles in Space. Mr. Crane was a Great Bend resident since 1993, coming from Pleasanton, Calif.
William. D. "Bill" Bisterfeldt, 79, of Great Bend, died Oct. 25 at Leisure Homestead in St. John. He was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Bison, the son of George Henry and Almeda Viola (Hutchins) Bisterfeldt. He was a lifelong resident of Great Bend. He married Frances M. Sohm on June 11, 1960, at Great Bend. He received his GED while serving in the United States Air Force. He was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Bisterfeldt was a maintenance supervisor for USD 428 for many years before his retirement.
RUSSELL - Herman J. Hammerschmidt, 98, of Russell, died Oct. 25 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. Herman was born on June 23, 1912, in Walker, the son of Jacob and Anna (Geist) Hammerschmidt. He grew up and attended public schools in Walker and lived all his life in the Walker, Victoria and Russell areas. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Teckla Sander on June 1, 1937, in Victoria. From this union Herman and Teckla were blessed with three sons, Herman, Robert and Marion. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Raymond "Bud" Duane Wamsley passed away Oct. 24 in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 78. Raymond was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Wichita to the late Robert and Isadore Wamsley of Conway Springs. Upon graduation from Conway Springs High School he attended and received degrees from Friends University and Wichita State University, both in Wichita, and later the University of Kansas, where he received his doctorate in Education in 1968. Raymond was a lifetime educator and administrator. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Edward L. Koopman, 83, of Great Bend, died Oct. 22, He was born in Great Bend on Dec. 30, 1926, to Edward C. and Myrtle Pettit Koopman. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1944 and attended Kansas State University, where he played basketball. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, receiving a medical discharge in 1945.
EDMOND, Okla. - Kevin L. Cook, 36, of Edmond, Okla., died Oct. 22 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond. Kevin was born March 27, 1974, in Great Bend, to Gary and Lorene Cook. He resided in Perryton, Texas, from 1974-1985, when the family moved to Cushing, Okla. Knight, Sr. and Wanda (Holmes) Knight, He graduated from Pawnee Rock High School where he grew up spending considerable time with his special grandmother Maude Holmes.
HOISINGTON - Martha Ann Redetzke, 77, died Oct. 22 at Hospice of Reno County. She was born Oct. 29, 1932, at Altadena, Calif., the daughter of Harry and Nora (Auten) Hawes. She married Clarence Redetzke on Nov. 3, 1951, at Fort Smith, Ark. She worked as an accounting clerk for Essex for 23 years. She was a Hoisington resident.
AMARILLO, Texas - Odessa Mills, 93, died Oct. 20 at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood. She was born Sept. 16, 1917, at Lockney, Texas, the daughter of Richard Warren and Girlie Hewett Thomas. She married Vernon Mills on Dec. 23, 1951, at Boise City, Okla. He died Aug. 15, 1988. She was an Ellinwood resident since 2006, formerly of Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas, and Pueblo and Denver, Colo. She managed the camera department at Skaggs Drug in Pueblo and in Amarillo, from 1959 to 1981. She was in sales for more than 20 years.

STAFFORD - Rena Lynn (Staley) Dolezal, 50, died Oct. 19 in Wichita. She was born May 28, 1960, in Russell. She was a grocery store manager. Survivors include her father, Donald Staley, of Enid, Okla.; two brothers, Nathan Staley of Wichita and Keith Staley of Enid, Okla.; two sisters, Lillian Parks and Holly Harrison, both of Woodward, Okla.; five nieces, two nephews and two great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanette Keener Staley, and a nephew, Travis Parks.

LARNED - Glenn Scott Presley, 66, died Sept. 21, at Mayo's St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Min. Born Feb. 8, 1948, in Wichita, he was the son of Glenn and Ruby Elzey Presley. On Dec. 31, 1967, he married Linda Walker in Marquette. She survives. After graduating from McPherson College, he moved to Larned to begin teaching high school industrial arts classes. He managed the Larned Swimming Pool for 25 years. He was a loving husband, a caring father, and a very proud grandpa.
Paul J. Heueisen, 84, former longtime Great Bend resident, passed away on Sept. 19, at Protection Valley Manor in Protection. Born on May 23, 1930, in Lancaster, Calif., he was the son of Louis Steven and Margaret Mary (Murray) Heueisen. In 1936, he moved to Great Bend with his family, and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1945. He worked as a custodian for various businesses in the Great Bend area. He enjoyed reading.

SALINA - David C. Gardiner, 54, died Sept. 20. Born Jan. 11, 1960, in Larned, he was the son of Gordon A. and Mary Anne (McConahay) Gardiner. In 1978, he graduated from Salina High School South. He joined the Army after he graduated from high school and was stationed in Europe for many years as a food inspector for the Army. He graduated from K-State with a degree in food science. He worked at the Great Bend Packing plant in Great Bend before retiring in Salina.
