Alvin Joseph Wahl, 91, of Gorham died Oct. 17 at St. John's Rest Home in Victoria. Alvin was born Jan. 1, 1919, on the family farm south of Gorham. He grew up in the Gorham and Hays area and graduated from Hays High School.
WICHITA - Bob Carr, 63, of Wichita, died Oct. 18 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, Wichita. Born Feb. 26, 1947, at Great Bend, he was the son of Dean S. and Dolores B. (Foster) Carr. He was an auto wholesaler for Mid-America Auto Auction, Wichita. Mr. Carr was a Wichita resident since 1986, coming from Denver, Colo.
LINDSAY, Okla. - Robert Leo "Bob" McGlinn, 75, of Lindsay, Okla., died Oct. 16 in Tulsa, Okla. He was born Aug. 14, 1935, in Chase, to Leo Robert and Frances Helena (Kiley) McGlinn. On Nov. 8, 1957, he married Verna Steinle in Chase. A resident of Lindsay, Okla., for more than 20 years, he was a senior production supervisor with BP Oil Company, retiring 17 years ago.
HUTCHINSON - Alan J. "Al" Wendler, 60, of Hutchinson, died Oct. 17 at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 10, 1950, in Hays, the son of Anthony "Tony" and Genevieve Stoecklein Wendler. He married Marietta Giessel on Aug. 25, 1972, in Ness City. She survives. He graduated from Ness City High School in 1968 and attended Emporia State University. He was parts manager at Midwest Superstore, Ford & Toyota in Hutchinson.
McPHERSON - Harold Dale Reese, 81, of McPherson, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Oct. 16 while in the company of family members at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. Mr. Reese was born in Roxbury on June 28, 1929, the son of Elmer Milo and Anna Marie (Erickson) Reese. Harold attended the Olive Springs Country School and graduated from Roxbury High School, Roxbury.
Raymond Wesley Brining, 92, died peacefully Oct. 17 at his home in Great Bend, surrounded by his family. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his stewardship of the land, his joy in mentoring the young and family and his love of the Lord.
Robert L. "Rob" Pelster, Jr., 39, died Oct. 13 at his home in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 14, 1971, in Great Bend, the son of Robert L. Pelster, Sr., and Lodema "Dee" (Garrett) Pelster. He married Frankie Lea on Aug. 14, 1993, at Great Bend. He worked for Log-Tech of Kansas as a wireline tech. He was a lifetime Great Bend resident.
ELLINWOOD - Virginia L. Pangburn Bayer, 79, died Oct. 17 at Good Samaritan Center in Lyons. Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Lyons, she was the daughter of Virgil L. Pangburn and Vera P. Misner. She graduated from Sterling College. A lifetime Rice county resident, she was a farm wife, secretary at Conoco Oil Company of Lyons, a former Rice County probate judge and an amateur anthropologist. On Nov. 8, 1953, she married Merrill D. Bayer in Lyons. He died Nov. 13, 2003.
Lucile I. Gordon, 98, died Oct. 16 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 27, 1912, in Dover, she was the daughter of Albert B. and Iva (Briggs) Ottinger. A resident of Great Bend since 1936, coming from Abilene, she was a bookkeeper for Bentley Hardware and Guy Gordon Accounting Service. On March 8, 1936, she married Guy G. Gordon at Wakarusa. He died May 5, 1989.
CUNNINGHAM - Edyth Catherine Mavity, 97, died Oct. 15 at Kingman Community Hospital in Kingman. She was born Feb. 5, 1913, in Norcatur, the daughter of Clarence Leo and Ethel (Stevens) Ward.
ELLINWOOD - Margaret Lou Molder Arnold Schreck, 78, died Oct. 15 at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. Born June 23, 1932, at Mulberry, Ark., she was the daughter of Jim and Mary Molder. She had been an Ellinwood resident since 1951, formerly of Mulberry. She married Maurice Schreck on Aug. 2, 1969, in Ellinwood. She retired in 1976 as a nurse at Great Bend Manor. She was a graduate of Mulberry (Ark.) High School.
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - Eugene Dale Daubert, 69, passed away Oct. 11 in Steamboat Springs, Colo. He was born on July 26, 1941, in Great Bend, to Elmer and Florene Daubert. After graduating from Great Bend Senior High in 1959, he went on to obtain his Bachelor's degree from the University of Wichita and, in 1969, obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa Law School. Gene was a longtime resident of Tulsa, Okla,, before he moved to North Dakota, Montana and Colorado.
ELLINWOOD - Frederick W. Feist, 83, died Oct. 14 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1927, in rural Claflin, the son of Anthony L. and Eva Christoph Feist. He married Katherine Kimpler on Nov. 11, 1952, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ellinwood. A lifetime Barton County resident, he was a retired welder and a partner in Rollins Bit Service, Ellinwood. He also was a driver for the senior citizens' bus, Ellinwood.

GODDARD - Karen Kay (Miller) Marcotte, 66, died Oct. 21 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Goodard. Born Jan. 18, 1948, in Claflin, she was the daughter of Joseph Miller and Lucille (Habiger) Miller. She was employed by Koch Industries as a records administrator.
Thomas E. Harris, 67, died Oct. 22 at his home in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 29, 1947, at Neosho, Mo., the son of Lawrence Edwin and Eula (Stites) Harris. He married Shirley Schmitt May 1, 1965 at Great Bend. A Great Bend resident since 1965, coming from Granby, Mo., he was a long-time oilfield truck driver and later owned and operated Tom Harris Trucking.
CLAFLIN - Stephen F. Demel, 86, died Oct. 22 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Dec. 26, 1927, he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Lamatsch) Demel. On April 23, 1957, he married Dolores A. Jenisch in Odin. A lifelong resident of Barton County, he was a farmer.
Mary Elizabeth Henkle, 80, died on Oct. 21 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born April 9, 1934, in Burlington she was the daughter of Charles William and Hazel Loretta (Doll) Reynolds. On Feb. 12, 1950, she married Carl W. Henkle in Holyrood. A resident of Great Bend since 1953, coming from Ellsworth County, she was employed by Sears in the customer service department, retiring after more than 30 years of service.

CONCORDIA - Sister Jeanette Wasinger, 76, died Oct. 22, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia. She was a Sister of St. Joseph for 56 years. Born in Hays on June 3, 1938, she was the daughter of Nick and Catherine (Stecklein) Wasinger, the younger of two children, and was baptized Jeanette Mae. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, on Sept. 8, 1957. On March 18, 1958, Jeanette received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Joseph Andre. She was born June 4, 1950 at Russell, the daughter of Gerald L. and Catherine (Nault) Kennedy. A Dodge City resident for the past 40 years, moving from Hoisington, she worked at Sonic Drive In and Wardrobe Cleaners, both in Dodge City, retiring in 2012. She enjoyed crocheting and making poppies for the Veterans.

Mary Lea Wade, 85, died Oct. 21, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Aug. 14, 1929, in Prague, Okla., she was the daughter of Alvin and Pearl (Stiffler) Montgomery. On Oct. 14, 1951, she married Lee Wade in Great Bend. He died on April 9, 1988. A resident of Great Bend since 1946, coming from Prague, Okla., she was a secretary for Kopke Law Office and Haneke Financial Services.
RUSSELL - Gerald Dean Bender, 72, passed away on Oct. 19, at Russell Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 23, 1942, in Russell, he was the son of Herbert H. and Viola E. (Mai) Bender. He grew up and attended schools in the Milberger area. He was employed by the City of Russell in the refuse department for 20 years, retiring in 1999.
CLINTON, Iowa - Gerald V. Galusha, 91, of Clinton, Iowa, died Sunday Oct. 19, at his home. Gerald was born on Aug. 16, 1923, in Garden Plaines, Ill., the son of James and Louise (Gerhardt) Galusha. He graduated from Erie High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945, with the 90th Infantry Division under General Patton. He was wounded on Jan. 16, 1945, at the Battle of the Bulge, when he received severe head injuries from mortar shell shrapnel.
Jack Daubert, 61, died Oct. 19 at Hutchinson Regional Hospital. Born in Great Bend, on April 9, 1953, he was the son of Herman and Wanda (Riemann) Daubert. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1972. Jack worked as a Certified Medical Assistant at "The Cedars" retirement community in McPherson. He was a longtime resident of Great Bend.
Kathy L. Kaiser, 65, passed away Oct. 19, at her home. Born Aug. 10, 1949, in Hopeton, Okla., she was the daughter of Glenn S. and Artie R. (Elliott) Jones. A resident of Great Bend since 1977, she worked 23 years for USD #428 in Food Service. On July 30, 1977, she married Paul Kaiser in Great Bend. He survives of the home.
