LAWRENCE - Sue Carole Siegfreid died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at her home. Born Jan. 15, 1950, in Wichita, she was the daughter of Chester Vernon and Carol Lee Carpenter Cale. In 1968, she graduated from Great Bend High School, from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor's degree in 1972, and from the University of Kansas in 1976 as a reading specialist. She married Stuart Lewis Siegfreid on July 31, 1976, in the KU Chapel in Lawrence. He survives of the home. She taught school for 32 years, 25 of them were spent at Woodlawn Elementary in Lawrence. Grace Ellen VanSkike entered God's Kingdom on April 24, 2016. Born in Newton on Sept. 28th, 1927, she was the eldest child of Herbert Paul and Marjorie Fae Dickson, family of English and Scotch- Irish decent. She was raised on the family farm near Rosalia and subsequently graduated high school in El Dorado, Class of 1945. After high school, Grace was among a few to be selected by her teacher for the opportunity to be sponsored for a college work and study program, working for the Dean's office, while attending classes at Kansas State University.
HOISINGTON - Evelyn H. Behr, 92, died April 28, 2016, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born April 17, 1924, on the farm north of Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Frank J. and Mary L. (Frenzl) Huschka. A longtime Hoisington resident, she was a homemaker. On Nov. 28, 1945, she married Norbeith E. Seyfert at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ellinwood. He died on June 14, 1948. She then married Francis J. Behr on Oct. 7, 1952, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington.
TIMKEN - Hedwig "Hedy" Bucl, 84, died April 24, 2016, at Good Samaritan in Hays. Born Sept. 14, 1931, in La Crosse, she was the daughter of Jacob and Apollonia (Kreutzer) Unrein. On Oct. 23, 1951 she married Ernest James Bucl in La Crosse. He died on Sept. 14, 2014. She worked at Legleiters and Mammels Grocery Stores, Rex Café, Inez's Restaurant, as a domestic engineer in many area homes, preparing for auctions and the historical museum. DEL RIO, Texas – Patricia Anne Mogg, 80, passed away April 25, 2016, at her home in Del Rio, Texas. She was born on Dec. 6, 1935, in Bartlesville, Okla. In 1953, she graduated from high school in Great Bend.
PRATT – Velma Margaret Meireis, 97, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016. She enjoyed a full and vibrant life with her family and friends. During the last stage of her life she was lovingly taken care of by her friends and family at the Pratt Regional Rehabilitation Center.
HAYS - Ellen Lou (Jennings) Rudell, 69, Hays, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Via Christi Medical Center's St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. She was born Aug. 15, 1946, in Monument, the daughter of Newt and Dixie (Windmill) Jennings. She was lovingly raised by her Aunt, Esther Hahn. She married Clarence Rudell and was a day-care provider for many years, was a hairdresser, and she and Clarence owned and operated the Annie Oakley Motel in Oakley until his death in 2013. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and going to auctions and traveling. She especially loved attending her son's sporting events.
NESS CITY - Richard Alexander Rodie, 88, passed away at Cedar Village Care Center, Ness City on April 21, 2016. He was born on Feb. 23, 1928, the son of Alex and Clara (Scherman) Rodie. He enjoyed farming and helping with the Future Farmers of America organization.
HOLYROOD - Viola Katherine Besthorn, 94, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Wilson. She was born June 3, 1921 to Joseph Henry Ross and Clara Mae (Ruby), who had eight other children (Edith Irene Weeks, Ethel Marie Bechtel, Florence I. Meharg, Clara Mae McCabe, the twins, Lee and Leo, Kelly and Joseph Jr.) all deceased. She married Arthur William Besthorn on June 2, 1940.
