HOISINGTON - Virgil Earl Hogan, 89, died June 23, at Hospice House of Reno County in Hutchinson. Born April 25, 1925, in Hoisington, he was the son of Dennis and Elsie (Jones) Hogan. On June 25, 1946, he married Dolores Jean Lutschg in Hoisington. She died on May 18, 2011. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, living in Buhler since 2010, he was a roughneck for Woodman-Iannitti Drilling Company.

OMAHA, Neb. - Thomas P. Seidel, 78, died June 8. He was born on Dec. 24, 1945, in Pratt. A former Great Bend resident, he grew up in Omaha, Neb., and Mitchell, Neb., graduating from Mitchell High School in 1953, and Iowa State University in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy as a supply officer and then worked for Northern Natural Gas for 27 years, retiring in 1987. During retirement, he volunteered for several grade schools in the Omaha Public School system and for more than 20 years at the Omaha Police Department.
MUENSTER, Texas - Florence Lorraine Williams, 95, died June 17 at a hospital in Denton, Texas. Born March 14, 1919, in Otis, she was the daughter of Samuel and Martha Moore. On Aug. 12, 1937, she married the love of her life, Arthur Warren Williams. Due to Arthur's job in the oil fields, the family moved to many places including Garnett, Great Bend and Albert, and Tonkawa, Okla. Roberta J. Welch, 70, died June 19 at Hays Medical Center. Born Dec. 29, 1943, in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of Robert and Florence (Frank) McCoy. She married Vince Latona in New York; they later divorced. On July 30, 1984, she married Jerry Welch. A Great Bend resident since 1986, coming from Nevada, Mo., she was a bookkeeper for the State of Missouri Department of Revenue. She loved God, family, golf, and her flowers.
DODGE CITY – Arlie "Walt" Redburn, 89, died June 19 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Ft. Dodge. He was born April 21, 1925, at El Dorado, the son of Arlie M. and Mertie D. Wilcox Redburn. A Dodge City resident since the late 1940s, moving from El Dorado, he was a mechanic for John Stickney Inc. for 30 years and a maintenance supervisor at Arrowhead West in Dodge City for 10 years, retiring July 16, 1993.

Kenneth Harold Allen, 86, died July 31, at Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1928, in Great Bend, he was the son of James Martin and Bertha (Piel) Allen. On April 28, 1952, he married Maude Evalene Russell in Salem, Ark. She died on Aug. 8, 2007. A lifetime resident of Great Bend he was a carpenter for Marlette Homes.

REDFORD, Mich. - Robert Lynn Humphrey, 71, died July 23 in Redford, Mich. Born May 18, 1943, in Great Bend, he was the son of Henry Ray and Lenora Caroline (Ochs) Humphrey. In 1961, he graduated from Hoisington High School and then attended Kansas State University. He eventually moved to Michigan where he worked for Nielsen TV Ratings and then for a trucking company until his retirement.
OLMITZ - Milton Alois Yarmer, 88, died July 25 at his home in Olmitz. Born May 17, 1926, at Russell County, he was the son of Frank Rudolph and Marie (Demel) Yarmer. Milton married Mary Agnes Gleissner May 26, 1948, at Olmitz. She died July 12, 2006.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Bradley K. Brann, 64, of Kansas City, Mo., passed suddenly on July 24. He was born Jan. 12, 1950, in Abilene, to Dorothy and Hilton Brann. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School and Fort Hays State University. He taught at Southeast Missouri University, followed by a career in sales and real estate.
HUTCHINSON - Mark A. Bomgardner, 51, of Hutchinson, went home to be with his Savior, July 27 at Reno County Hospice House. He may have lost his battle with cancer, but he conquered the grave when he accepted Christ as his savior. He was born May 31, 1963 in Joplin, MO, the son of Bob and Judy Allen Bomgardner. He was a 1981 graduate of Dodge City High School, and received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Fort Hays State University. He was a Hutchinson resident for the past 15 years moving from Great Bend.
SPEARVILLE - Susie Ackerman, 95, died July 26, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City. Born March 7, 1919, in Pratt, she was the daughter of Michael and Alice Duncan Shanley. On Oct. 2, 1951, she married John F. Ackerman in Pratt. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2003. An area resident since 1951, she was a homemaker.

Lyle E. Schaben, 89, died July 26 at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. He was born Aug. 27, 1924, at Bazine, the son of John and Verda (Ryersee) Schaben. Mr. Schaben was a graduate of Bazine High School. He married Nathalie J. Borger Feb. 15, 1947, at Bazine. She died June 22, 2012. Raised on the family farm, he began farming as a young man and he and Nathalie raised their family in the house built by Lyle's father.
