TOPEKA - Jean Jensen, 89, formerly of Ellinwood, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the House at Midland Care Hospice. She was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of George and Mary (Glidden) Bowker. Jean married Donald Jensen on April 18, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived the majority of their lives in Ellinwood where they owned and operated Jensen Associates for 57 years. Jean was an avid painter sharing many of her paintings with family and friends.
POTTSVILLE, AR ‑ Ruby Olive Dumas, 84, of Pottsville, Ark., passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, Ark. The daughter of Claude and Ida Boldt Dellinger, she was born Aug. 3, 1931 in Bushton. She was a graduate of Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. Ruby spent many years teaching school in the Kansas and Nebraska public school system.
Judy C. (Wagner Brough) Thornton, 70, passed away from cardiac arrest April 10, 2016 in Wichita. Born Dec. 29, 1945, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of John A. Wagner and Margie Giltner. She married and divorced Jim Brough Sr. They remained friends. A lifelong resident of Great Bend she worked at Central Kansas Medical Center for 15 years and managed Fun Time Bingo for 20 years. She loved singing in Sweet Adelines and in her church choir at Central Baptist Church since 1987. She enjoyed family reunions, spending time with grandkids, and her Bingo family.
HOISINGTON - JoAnn Brown, 68, died April 11, 2016, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. Born Sept. 3, 1947, she was the daughter of Adolph and Mary (Demel) Gerritzen. In 1965 she graduated from Hoisington High School. On Oct. 12, 1996, she married Lloyd Brown in Newton. He died on March 21, 2004.
HOISINGTON - Judith Ann (Judy) Schneweis Nimmo died July 16, 2015, in Emmett Idaho. Born Oct. 14, 1947, at the St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Boor) Schneweis. She attended grade school at St. Joseph School in Beaver. She attended high school in Odin. On Aug. 17, 1974, she married Jim Nimmo in Hoisington. She was a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed doing crafts and working at Fuller Brush. Mrs. Nimmo attended Assembly of God Church in Emmitt, Idaho.
ELLINWOOD - Allen Edward Schartz, 71, passed away on April 11, 2016, in Ellinwood. Born on March 12, 1945, he was the son of Werner and Charlotte (Harmon) Schartz. He was a lifetime Ellinwood resident graduating from Ellinwood High School in 1963.
OTIS - Jean Myrl (Bross) Richardson, 85, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in La Crosse. Mrs. Richardson was born Oct. 23, 1930, at the family farm south of Wilsey in Morris County. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas and long time resident of Otis in Rush County. Her parents were Ralph and Myrl (Stewart) Bross. She graduated from Wilsey High School and furthered her education at Emporia State College. She graduated with a degree in education. ODIN - Clarence F. "Clare" Zecha, 84, died April 11, 2016, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Nov. 18, 1931, on the farm near Odin, he was the son of William B. and Frances (Frenzl) Zecha. On Oct. 2, 1957, he married Eleanor A. Zorn, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin. A lifetime resident of the Odin area, he was a farmer and a stockman. He also worked for the Independent Township and served as a board member for many years.
Patricia J. "Patsy" Shepherd, 90, died April 9, 2016, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born March 18, 1926, at Oklahoma City, Okla., to John and Katherine Mary (Birbeck) Shepherd. A lifetime Stafford County resident, Miss Shepherd was an Avon Lady and farmer.
Clark LaVern Funk, 57, died April 8, 2016, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 23, 1959, the son of Raymond Bernard and Lillian R. (Boxberger) Funk. He married Cynthia Marie Schmitt Aug. 13, 1992, at Milberger. He worked in maintenance for Becker Tire and Treading.
Norma Natalie Ruble, 85, died April 6, 2016 at her home in Great Bend. She was born Feb. 18, 1931 at Las Cruces, New Mexico, the daughter of Harry O. and Billie Ruth (Kirtley) Noll and granddaughter of William and Pearl (Charles) Kirtley.
HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. - Jack McClain, 91, died March 17, 2016. He was married to June Westervelt. She died in 2008. He began his career as an educator in Chandler, Ariz., and moved to California where he was an art teacher at Redondo Union High School. He retired in 1985.
