C. Ray Scheideman, 77, died Nov. 5 at his home in Great Bend. Born Sept. 29, 1937, in La Crosse, he was the son of Elmer Milton and Amelia (Brening) Scheideman. On Feb. 24, 1962, he married Jacqueline L. Strong in Smith Center. A Great Bend resident since 1964, coming from Hays, he was employed as an installer and repairman for Southwestern Bell for 25 years, then for AT&T, retiring in 1990. Following his retirement, he worked in the telecommunications industry and then for CPI.
LARNED - Winnie I. Ashley, 81, passed away Nov. 5 at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson. Born Sept. 11, 1933, in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of George and Edna Messner Neal. On Feb. 24, 1957, she married Leonard Ashley. They later divorced. He passed away on May 28, 2013. A longtime area resident, she was a Licensed Mental Health Technician at the Larned State Hospital.
BAZINE - Sammy Lee Cell, 70, died Nov. 5 at Hays Medical Center. Born Nov. 28, 1943, in Waynoka, Okla., he was the son of Carl "Skeet" and Maxine (Cunningham) Cell. On Sept. 30, 1972, he married Melody Ray Shelton in Great Bend. A resident of Bazine since 1999, living in Salina from 1992 to 1999, and Great Bend from 1965 to 1992, he was a gauger for Plains Marketing and formerly served as a Great Bend Police Officer and Barton County Sheriff's Officer. He loved John Wayne, racing, rattlesnake hunting, and all sports.

HEALY – Eleanor L. Penka, 91, died Nov. 4, 2014 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.
ELLINWOOD - Robert Leo Dannebohm, 79, died at his home among friends and family on November 2. Born in rural Ellinwood on July 5, 1935, he was the son of Stanley and Irene (Parker) Dannebohm.
MANHATTAN - Alexander Delane Hamblin, 26, passed away Nov. 1, at his residence. Born in Great Bend on April 7, 1988, he was the son of Debra (Horyna) Pratt and the late Everett Hamblin. He loved to write poetry and also had a passion for music. Alex would be outdoors fishing whenever he could.
OTIS - Fern I. Tuzicka, 89, died Nov. 2, at Wheatlands Health Care Center in Kingman. Born Aug. 8, 1925, in Russell County, she was the daughter of Henry H. and Katy (Bender) Berschauer. On April 27, 1942, she married Albert E. Tuzicka in Russell. He died on April 4, 1998. A resident of Hoisington since 1999, coming from Otis, she was a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed quilting and playing the piano.
PRATT - Steven Eric Rose, died Oct. 21, at his home in Pratt. Born March 26, 1959, in Greensburg, he was the son of Franklin A. and Theda (Howell) Rose. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School.
Gaylord Dean Olsen, 87, died Oct. 31 at Leisure Homestead, St. John. Born Dec. 1, 1926 at Palo Alto County, Iowa, he was the son of Curtis and Inez (Larson) Olsen.
David Michael "Mike" Johnson, 72, died Oct. 30 at Almost Home Inc., Great Bend. He was born Nov. 25, 1941, at Denison, Texas, the son of Doug and Woodie (Pritchard) Johnson. He married Peggy Temple April 28, 1962, at Borger, Texas. He founded M and M Equipment in 1975, retiring in December 2012.
PAWNEE ROCK - Ladine Peterson, 95, passed away Oct. 29 at the Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born April 2, 1919, in Bison, she was the daughter of Everett and Frances Bitter Edwards. On April 3, 1941, she married Loraine Edwin Peterson in Bison. He passed away Jan. 20, 1995. A lifetime area resident of Rush and Pawnee County, she began her career as a teacher and retired from the ASCS office in Larned. She raised Persian cats and took them to many shows, and she also loved flowers.

HUTCHINSON - Susan Marie Harms, 56, died Dec. 18 at her home in Hutchinson. Born Feb. 14, 1958, in McPherson, she was the daughter of Gustaf and Naomi Scheikofsky Nelson. She was a graduate of McPherson High School. On July 8, 1988, she married Robert Harms. He survives. She was a resident of Hutchinson the last 23 years.
Mabel E. Hiss, 91, died Dec. 18 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born April 9, 1923, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of August H. and Anna (Gagelman) Werhahn. On Oct. 29, 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, John R. Hiss. He died on Aug. 4, 2005. A lifetime Great Bend resident, she was a homemaker and also worked at the Great Bend Tribune during World War II. She attended Washburn University.
Darlene M. Creacy, 80, lifelong Great Bend resident, passed away on Tuesday evening, Dec. 16, at Leisure Homestead Care Center at St. John. Born on July 9, 1934, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Ira and Inez (Davis) Thomason. She attended school in Great Bend. She worked as a cook in several area restaurants, including at the Jayhawk Cafe, the Highland Hotel, and Holiday Inn, and was cook and former owner of the Zarah Cafe in Great Bend for many years. PRATT - Jon Travis Hartman, 74, died Dec. 13 at his home in Pratt. Born Oct. 1, 1940, in Pratt, he was the son of Charles Dwight and Helen Louise (Stiles) Hartman. He earned his Master of Science degree in Art from Fort Hays University and taught 35 years at Great Bend High School. He served on the Vernon Filley Art Museum Foundation Board of Directors for several years and remained as Emeritus Board Member.

Helen E. (Nickerson) Sharp, 81, died Dec. 13, at Diversicare of Larned. Born May 14, 1933, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Corbin and Elizabeth (Skirvin) Nickerson. On June 1, 1942, she married Bobby Dale Howard in Pratt. They were later divorced. She then married Robert Carl Sharp on June 21, 1975, in Great Bend. They were later divorced. A longtime resident of Great Bend, also residing in Las Vegas, Nev. and Larned, she served as a librarian and bus driver for the Radium School District and was a bookkeeper for Melvin Nuss. She enjoyed reading and sewing.

Kenneth Michael Klepper, 84, died Dec. 11 at his home in Great Bend. He was born May 26, 1930, at Raymond, the son of Nicholas and Alice (Strobl) Klepper. He married Marilyn Russell Sept. 22, 1952, at Great Bend. She died Dec. 31, 2009.
Cleo Eugene Watkins, 83, died on Dec. 6, 2014 at Via Christi Hospital-St. Francis in Wichita. Born on Jan. 21, 1931, in Stockton, he was the son of Roy Bryon and Grace Mae (Hulst) Watkins. A resident of Great Bend for most of his life he worked as a Lineman for Midwest Energy until he retired. Everyone that knew him, knew how much he has always loved his motorcycles, both working on them and riding. He was also an avid bowler most of his adult life, a loving father and grandfather and will be missed by many.
Luther Morgenstern, 98, died Dec. 6 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1916, on the farm in Russell County, the son of Sam G. and Lena (Radke) Morgenstern. On Aug. 23, 1949, he married Helen Margheim in Hoisington. She died Feb. 11, 2008. Luther was a farmer and a contract pumper in the oil fields, retiring in 1980.
