Mildred Oleta Elliott, 94, died March 24, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Feb. 5, 1917 in Medford, Okla., she was the daughter of John Wesley and Lillie Belle (Wykes) Wisehart. On June 12, 1932 she married Harry W. Elliott in Hays. He died Dec. 24, 1997. A Great Bend resident since 1938, coming from Ransom, she was a secretary for the Barton County Courthouse and the County Superintendent of Schools.
Barbara Kay Clark, 70, died March 23 at her home in Great Bend. Born Sept. 17, 1940 in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Howard and Betty (Alderson) Bangerter. On May 12, 1964 she married Joseph A. Clark in Colorado Springs, Colo. He died in 1997. A Great Bend resident for four years, coming from Wichita, she was a retired self-employed accountant.

FORT MCCOY,FLA. - Mr. Leroy "Bill" Maddox, 83, of Ft. McCoy, Fla., passed away on March 19, at his son's home in Williston, FlA. He was born in Laurel, Miss. and moved to Ft. McCoy, Fla. in 1979 from Miami, Fla., where he retired following 32 years of service as a supervisor for Southern Bell Telephone. Bill loved fishing and hunting, loved gardening and traveling and loved tinkering around his home.

A resident of Great Bend for 20 years, coming from the farm north of Claflin, he was a small engine repairman for Carr Auto and Electronics. His hobbies were working on mowers, chain saws or any small engine repair.

On April 18, 1958 he married Thelma Beebe in Norwalk, Calif. A long time resident of Great Bend, he was most recently employed as a regional manager for Super 8 Motels.
BELPRE - Helen R. Berscheidt, 94, died April 19, at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 22, 1918, she was the daughter of Matt and Martha Heinke Maes. On Feb. 4, 1941 she married John N. Berscheidt in Claflin. He passed away in 1974. A lifetime area resident she was a farmwife and an occupational therapist for the Larned State Hospital for 25 years.
