ELLINWOOD - Mike Strobl, 78, died Aug. 8, 2014 at his home in Ellinwood. Born on March 18, 1936, in Great Bend, he was raised by Nick and Alice Klepper of Ellinwood. On Sept. 21, 1963, he married Jeanie Brown in Phoenix, Ariz. A lifetime Ellinwood area resident, he was co-owner of Strobl-Yarmer Construction.
HUTCHINSON - Billie Louise Messick Williams, 83, died Aug. 10, at Hester Care Center. Born Dec. 27, 1930, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Lee and Sally LeRoy True. She was a 1956 graduate of Raymond High School. On Aug. 27, 1947, she married Donald F. "Pete" Messick in Tribune. He died Sept. 18, 1994. Then on Sept. 12, 1998, she married Robert Stanley Williams in Hutchinson. He died Aug. 10, 2013.
CHASE - Donald Mark Oberle Sr., 66, passed away Aug. 11, at his home in Chase. Born July 3, 1948, in Great Bend, he was the son of George J. and Florentine L. (Kimpler) Oberle. A lifelong resident of Chase, he was a pipe-liner in the petroleum industry. On Dec. 23, 2002, he married Debbie (Gilley) in Great Bend. She survives of the home.
Ivan "Stanley" Freeman, 94, died Aug. 9 at Great Bend Health And Rehabilitation Center. Born Dec. 26, 1919, at Coats, he was the son of Ivan A. and Gertrude M. (Stimits) Freeman. He married Betty B. Eastes Jan. 4, 1948, at Pratt. She died August 31, 2012.
OBERLIN - DeeAnna E. Krizek, 77, died Aug. 9 at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin. Born April 7, 1937, in Oberlin, she was the daughter of Gordon and Esther (Leitner) Rathbun. In 1955 she graduated from Decatur Community High School. On Aug. 4, 1957, she married Bennie Krizek in Oberlin. Living on the Krizek family farm north of Jennings, she was a homemaker.
LACROSSE - Eugene Dale Sell died on July 2. Born on Aug. 10, 1929, in La Crosse, he was the son of Jacob and Mayme (Rickter) Sell. Gene attended school in La Crosse, graduating in 1947. In high school he excelled in all sports, especially in basketball and football. Upon graduation, Gene accepted a scholarship to Garden State College in Garden City. Upon leaving college, he took a job with Gross Drilling Co. of Eldorado, and in 1951, was sent to Pawhuska, Okla. for "six months work and never left."
