ELLINWOOD - Dale Hartig, 80, passed away Oct. 15 at the Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Nov. 17, 1932, at Strong City, he was the son of Herman and Glenna Rose (Crouch) Hartig. A resident of Ellinwood since 1955, he was a carpenter and worked maintenance at Barton Community College. On Jan. 11, 1957, he married Ella Jane (Koch) at Ellinwood.
NESS CITY - Edna E. Wegele, 90, passed away Oct. 16 at Avita Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wichita. Born April 12, 1923, in Barton County, she was the daughter of John and Pauline Popp Maier. A near lifetime resident of Ness County, coming from Barton County in 1929, she was a bank officer. On May 7, 1944, she married Paul Wegele in Milberger. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2001.
James L. "Jim" Weathers, 83, passed away on Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, at his home. Born on Feb. 22, 1930, in rural Barton County, he was the son of Roscoe and Mabel Mae (Denbo) Weathers. He was reared on the family farm and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in Guam. On June 10, 1956, he was united in marriage to M. Elaine Bauer in Larned. He farmed southwest of Great Bend nearly all of his life, until very recently when ill health prevented him from working.
Leo Wilson Orebaugh, 93, died Oct. 17 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 26, 1919, at Tyro, Kan., the son of Clark O. and Alta P. (Wilson) Orebaugh. He married Edna Jurgensen April 24, 1941, at Albert. She died May 11, 2002.
HOISINGTON - Rhiannon Marie Young, 33, died Oct. 14 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. Born May 1, 1980 at Dodge City, she was the daughter of Harold Lee and Sarah (Millirons) Young.
WICHITA - Father Eugene P. "Owen" Kenny, 83, retired priest of the Diocese of Dodge City, died Oct. 12, in Wichita. Eugene Kenny was born March 17, 1929, in Farebane Co., Offaly, Ireland, the son of Thomas and Mary Kate (Gilligan) Kenny. He took his seminary studies at St. Peter's College in Wexford, Ireland and was ordained to the priesthood June 7, 1953, by the Most Rev. James Staunton, bishop of Ferns. Father Kenny was one of many Irish priests recruited in seminary for service in Kansas. His first assignment in the Diocese of Dodge City was assistant pastor at ...
HOLYROOD - Kammeron Jakob Haggerty, 16, died Oct. 12, in rural Ellsworth County. Born March 4, 1997 in Salina, he was the son of Jeffrey and Spring (Warta) Haggerty. He was a Junior at Central Plains High School in Claflin where he participated in FFA, football and Drama Club.
LEWIS - Marvin Ray "Bud" Lawrence, died Oct. 11, at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley. Born Dec. 20, 1940, in Hutchinson, he was the son of Dail I. and Ella Jane Mooney Lawrence. On Sept. 20, 1980, he married Linda Sue McDonald. She died on Dec. 18, 2011. He was a retired machine operator for Cross Manufacturing and a self-employed mechanic.
Lodema "Dee" Pelster, 81, died Oct. 12 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 9, 1932, at Parsons, the daughter of James LeRoy and Gertrude (Bennett) Garrett. She married Robert LeRoy Pelster Dec. 22, 1953, at Miami, Okla. He died Aug. 25, 1996. A Great Bend resident since 1953, coming from Cherryvale, she was a homemaker.
