On Feb. 11, surrounded by many people who loved him, Tom passed away from complications associated with esophageal cancer, just 17 days before his 60th birthday. HUDSON – Gene George Krankenberg, 78, died March 2 in Overland Park. Born May 20, 1932 in Udall,he was the son of Leo and Lorine Krankenberg. A long time resident of Hudson, he was a farmer. On Sept. 26, 1955 he married Chiemi Ishimaru in Japan.
LA CROSSE - Laurene Elizabeth Marvin, 89, died March 1 at Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom. Born March 16, 1921 in Ransom, she was the daughter of Mathias Frederick and Mary Margaret (Roths) Friess. A resident of Ransom for the past 14 months, coming from La Crosse where she had lived since 1961. She was a homemaker. On Dec. 6, 1947 she married E. Leon Marvin in Wichita. He died April 10, 2004.
LARNED - Patricia L. Young, 76, died March 3 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 2, 1934 in Larned, she was the daughter of Clarence Gordon Hammond and Leora Nulf Hammond Kristufek. Moving from Rural Edwards County to Larned in 1973, she was the Administrator for Hammond Holiday Home. On Feb. 2, 1983 she married Lewis C. Young at Colorado Springs, Colo. He survives.
HUTCHINSON – Avis J. Riedel, 84, died Tuesday, March 1, at Garden City. Born Feb. 12, 1927, at Little River, she was the daughter of E. C. and Bessie (Spriggs) Miller. She married Clarence Riedel Sept. 5, 1949, at Lyons. He survives.

HOISINGTON - Lois Ilene Hoffman, 85, died Feb. 28 at Santa Fe Nursing Home in Weatherford, Texas. She was born July 11, 1925 in Norton. She was the daughter of Lovell Dodd and Pansy (Montgomery) Clinton. On Aug. 15, 1945 she married George W. Hoffman in Hoisington. He died June 1, 1986. A former longtime resident of Hoisington, she was a retired nurses aid working at Clara Barton hospital for over 30 years.
BISON – Donald P. "Don" Wood, 83, died March 1 at the Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley. Born Oct. 3, 1927 in Denver, Colo., he was the son of Martin and Melinda (Sanders) Wood. A 34 year resident of Bison, moving from Larned, he worked in the dry cleaning business for more than 20 years and was employed by Essex in Hoisington for 13 years before his retirement. KANOPOLIS - Judith "Judy" Allen Bunch Maddox Schroeder, 71, Kanopolis, passed away Feb. 27. She was born in Barnard on Oct. 17, 1939, to Virgil and Fern Bunch. She was married to Robert Schroeder. On Nov. 17, 1946, she married Duane Wagner in Ellinwood. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1991. She was a housewife and bank teller. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlepoint.
