HOISINGTON - Blanche R. Doonan, 88, died May 4 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Rush County, the daughter of Alex and Rosalia (Legleiter) Schaffer. She married Willard G. Doonan Nov. 5, 1939, at Russell. He died July 18, 2001. A longtime Hoisington resident, coming from Barton and Rush counties, she was a retired credit/layaway clerk for J. C. Penney's.
CLAFLIN - Robert Bonomo, 69, died April 27 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 15, 1942, in Albuquerque, N.M., he was the son of John and Margaret (Miller) Bonomo. Robert graduated from Lovingston High School in New Mexico and went on to study at Edwards University in Austin, Texas, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Mexico. He then obtained his teaching certificate from San Diego State University and later attended Fort Hays State University to further his education. HOISINGTON - Lillian R. Funk, 88, died April 25 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Sept. 29, 1923, in Russell County, she was the daughter of J. Peter and Margaret (Deines) Boxberger. On Nov. 22, 1942, she married Raymond Funk in Milberger. He died on Sept. 12, 2000. A lifetime Russell and Barton County resident, she was a cook at Homestead Villa and then for Clara Barton Hospital, both in Hoisington, until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, baking and decorating cakes, and gardening – especially caring for her plants and flowers.
ST. JOHN - Jean (Cadman) Astle, 87, died Apr. 25 at South Wind Hospice, Pratt. She was born June 3, 1924, at Moscow, Kan., the daughter of James H. and Ila F. (Lindsey) Cadman. She moved to St. John in 1964 where she was a homemaker and former aide for St. John Hospital.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1926, in Great Bend, one of eight children of Isaac William and Ethel (Booze) Root. Her parents operated a feed and poultry store on Main Street in Great Bend. Pauline Wagner, 90, died Nov. 9, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Dec. 27, 1923, in Ellis, she was the daughter of Joe and Agatha (Gaschler) Weber. She married Gilbert Aloysius Orth Sr. He later died. On Sept. 13, 1968, she married Daylon John Wagner in Cheyenne Wells, Colo. He died on March 26, 1994. A Great Bend resident since 1969, coming from Hays, she was a beautician.
