Otis Blackburn 1923 - 2011
RAYMOND - Otis Blackburn, 87, died Feb. 12 at Raymond. Born Aug. 31, 1923 in Cushing, Okla., he was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Willie Mae Lowe Blackburn. A resident of Raymond most of his life, he was a retired truck driver and mechanic. On May 16, 1941, he married Altus Higgins in Pawnee, Okla. In 1964 he married Jenny Melton. She died on Nov. 30, 1994.

LEAVENWORTH - Charles "Charlie" Sydney Brown, 76, was born in Leavenworth, Oct. 13, 1934, to Lucy Elizabeth "Betty" Bromell Brown and Ralph C. Brown, and died Feb. 11, at his home in rural Leavenworth. He married Regina Mary "Jean Marie" Theis Brown, on June 29, 1957, at Corpus Christi Church, Mooney Creek.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Joy Amalie Deighton passed away on Feb. 10 at age 92. She was born in Rosetown, Saskatoon, Canada on Aug. 5, 1918, to Joseph and Josephine Suchy, who moved from Kansas to homestead in Canada in the early 1900s. While in Canada, Joy and five sisters were born before the family returned to Kansas.

Born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 4, 1935, she was the daughter of Andrew B. and Dorothy Mershon Huber. Her family moved to Mt. Carroll, Ill., in 1942. An accomplished pianist, guitar player and percussionist for Mt. Carroll High School, music was an important part of her life. Her quick wit and love of ironic humor lasted throughout her lifetime.
