Doyle "Gene" Boyd, 78, Topeka, passed away May 30 at a local hospital. Gene was born Sept.16, 1935 in Holdenville, Okla., the son of Lige and Etta (Cummings) Boyd. He graduated from Wewoka High School in Wewoka, Okla. and later attended junior college in Gainesville, Texas.
MCPHERSON - Ronald E. Miller, 78, passed away June 1 at Wichita. The son of John A. and Lillie (Flora) Miller, he was a farmer/stockman living on the farm near Macksville before moving to McPherson in 1996. A former U.S. Navy pilot, his memberships include Eden Valley Church of the Brethren, Dillwyn board of directors, Cedars board of directors and Young Eagles. On Dec. 29, 1956, he married Ruth Jean (Grossnickle) at Curlew, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2000. On July 19, 2002, he married Audrey (Johnson) at Smolan.
HAYS - Clayton Daniel Zimmer, 40, died May 31, at the Hays Medical Center. Born March 2, 1974 ,in Tripoli, Libya, he was the son of Marvin and Janice (Oller) Zimmer. In 1992 he graduated from Hays High School. He worked in computer tech support for SYKES Enterprises for many years.
OGALLAH - James Lee Patterson, 62, died May 26, 2014 at his home in Ogallah. Born Jan. 11, 1952 in Hoisington, he was the son of Junior and Betty (Phillips) Patterson. A resident of Ogallah for 10 years, coming from Great Bend, he was a roughneck for various oil companies and a CMA for nursing homes.
RUSSELL - Vernon Edward Morgenstern, 89, died May 24, 2014 at Deseret Heath Care in Kensington. Born June 12, 1924, in Barton County, he was the son of Edward and Minnie (Boxberger) Morgenstern. He grew up in the Galatia area and graduated from Russell High School in 1942. He was drafted into the Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged in 1946. On July 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Keener. William H. Macy, Jr., 84, of Great Bend, and formerly of Larned, passed away on May 25, at Hays Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born on Aug. 16, 1929, in Denver, Colo. In 1948, he graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in Wheat Ridge, Colo. He then attended Colorado State University, where he achieved a degree in Horticulture and Floral Design. He operated a greenhouse and three floral shops in Denver, Colo., known as "The Bright Spot", for 22 years and then moved his greenhouse business to Lake County, Fla. for 32 years. SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Nada June Underwood, 84, of Springfield, Mo., went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 3. Nada was born on June 23, 1929, to Russell and Clara Newlin in Codell. She married Robert (Bob) Underwood on Oct. 10, 1953. To this union two children were born, Kelley (Trudy) Underwood and Kris (Don) Carlson. Eventually grandchildren, Angela Carlson, Jessica Peters, Robbie Carlson and Robert Underwood were added to the family. Nada was also blessed to know three of her great-grandchildren.
