Mac was born in ReDondo Beach, Calif. on May 27, 1942, to Roland Marion McCraw and LaVica Marie (Lumpkin) McCraw. Raised by a Dad that was a mechanic, Mac learned the same trade. For many years he worked as an auto mechanic for J.C. Penney. Even though Mac enjoyed working on cars, he also enjoyed farming during his later years. DERBY - Maurine Carol Yeager, 92, of Derby and former Russel resident, died May 6 at the Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. Maurine was born in Selden, the daughter of Glen and Sylvia (Crabill) Schrock. She grew up in the Selden area and graduated from Selden High School. After high school she attended Brown Mackie College to train as a business secretary. SMITHVILLE, Mo. - Lewis L. Basye, 73, of Smithville, Mo., passed away May 8. Born Sept. 21, 1940, in Kanopolis, he was the son of Richard and Velma (Anderson) Basye. He grew up in Claflin and graduated from Claflin High School. He then served his country in the United States Air Force as a B-52 Crew Chief during the Vietnam War. WICHITA - Lee Allen Schroeder, 47, passed away May 9, at his residence in Wichita. Born Dec. 19, 1966, in Larned, he was the son of Gary Burris and Mary Kay Ruth Hazel Schroeder. Lee grew up in Great Bend and had lived in Wichita for the last 4-5 years. On Oct. 26, 1988, he married Patricia Richard in Hutchinson. She survives. He loved sports, fishing and was a Chiefs, KU, Royals and a Yankees fan, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
ODIN - Janet Hipp, 72, died May 11, at her home in rural Claflin. She was born March 2, 1942, in Great Bend, the daughter of Jim and Cecelia Lorene (Pundsack) Keeley. Janet, a lifelong resident of the area, graduated from Radium High School and completed nurse's training at the Dominican School of Nursing in Great Bend. On Oct. 12, 1963, she married Thomas Hipp in Seward. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 2006.
Diane Gowdy, 64, of Iola, formerly of Great Bend, died Dec. 13, 2013, at her home. Memorial services will be 3:30 p.m. Fri., May 16, 2014, on what would have been her 65th birthday, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
GARFIELD - Rose Marie Wagner, 87, passed away on May 8, at the Medicalodge of Kinsley. Born April 27, 1927, in Larned, she was the daughter of Herbert Charles and Mamie Latham Miller. A lifetime area resident, she was a farm wife. On April 11, 1954, she married Arthur Melroy Wagner Jr. in Garfield. He survives.
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Flora J. Grace, 90, formerly of Great Bend, died April 15, at home in Prescott, Ariz. Born May 18, 1923, in Ruleton, she was the daughter of Antonio and Guadalupe (Mendez) Manzo. She attended school in Ruleton and Goodland.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Gerald (Jerry) Leroy Dean, 79, passed peacefully on April 8, in Surprise, Ariz. Born July 30, 1934, in Denver, Colo., he was the son of Forest and Mary (Haubert) Dean. On Jan. 4, 1959, he married Vera Duncan. Jerry was a longtime resident of Denver, Colo. and then retired to a farm north of Hoisington until moving to Surprise, Ariz.
