Louise Brock Hamilton 1932 - 2013

TOPEKA - Noted local artist, Louise Brock Hamilton, passed away on Dec. 5. She was born in Great Bend on April 25, 1932, to George and Ella Jane Heim of Ellinwood. Louise completed her early education in the Ellinwood schools. She majored in drawing and painting in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She continued her education at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo., and Washburn University, Topeka.

LARNED - Janet Y. Murphy, 66, died Dec. 5 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Nov. 24, 1947, in Compton, Calif., she was the daughter of Hubert and Lu Disney Hanes. On Sept. 9, 1967, she married Robert R. Smyth at Winfield. He died Dec. 5, 1992. On Nov. 27, 1993, she married Melvin M. Murphy Jr. at Larned. He survives. A longtime area resident, she was a program technician at the FSA office in Larned.

NEWTON - John Banman, 95, died Nov. 29, at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton. Born on June 23, 1918 in Canton, he was the son of Jacob and Helen (Pankratz) Banman. He graduated from Newton High School, attended Bethel College for one year prior to completing his bachelor's degree at Wichita State University in 1940.
