LARNED - Grace Lucille Baugher, 101, died Feb. 16 at Diversicare of Larned. Born May 19, 1912, at Burdett, she was the daughter of John Ora and Ida Bauer Line. A lifetime area resident, she was a cook for USD 495 and she loaded 20 mm shells during the war. She also loved to dance and play cards. On Nov. 23, 1931, she married Dillwyn Shay Baugher in Dodge City. He passed away Sept. 13, 1981.
HOISINGTON - Frieda L. Callaway, 92, died Feb. 17, at Country Place Senior Living in Hoisington. Born Feb. 15, 1922, in Galatia, she was the daughter of David and Marie (Reichert) Herbel. A lifelong resident of Hoisington, she was a homemaker. On Sept. 25, 1942, she married David "Cab" Callaway. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1970. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and spending time with her family.

LARNED/WICHITA - J.E. "Jim" Throckmorton died on Feb. 12 at Reflection Living Homes in Wichita. Jim was born in Garner,Texas on Dec. 25, 1921 to Ed and Stella Keiner Throckmorton. He graduated from Sam Norwood, Texas in 1938. He attended barber school in Austin, Texas and later became a barber in the U. S. Navy in Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif. He later became an employee of Western Union and worked as a teleprinter through out Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
Leo A. Bender Sr., 71, died Feb. 13 at Hays Medical Center. Born Aug. 9, 1942 in Fort Collins, Colo., he was the son of Leo and Lydia (Greenwald) Bender. On April 4, 1970 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Schmitt in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend for 43 years, coming from Russell, he was a unit driver for a well servicing company for 30 years and then worked in housekeeping at St. Rose Ambulatory and Surgery Center for 10 years until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing.
ODIN - Hubert J. Steiner, 92, died Feb. 13, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Jan. 31, 1922, in Hoisington, he was the son of Joseph and Burga (Kinzel) Steiner. A lifelong Barton County resident, he graduated from Hoisington High School. On Sept. 14, 1948, he married Loretta Schneider in Olmitz. Hubert was a farmer, stockman and also ran a bulldozer for the Cheyenne Township for many years. He enjoyed goose hunting and spending time with his family.
