RAYMOND - John A. Snider, 77, died Oct. 31 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Jan. 5, 1936, in Raymond, he was the son of Dee Lambert and Clara Mary (Wille) Snider. He graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. A lifetime resident of Raymond, he was a farmer and cattleman.
LAKE QUIVIRA - Dr. A. William Shafer, 85, peacefully passed in the presence of his family on Oct. 28, in Kansas City, Mo. Bill enjoyed retirement life with his wife, Betsy Thomas Dring Shafer, at Lake Quivira, as a committed family man, voracious reader and avid golfer. Bill was married to June Alefs Shafer for 49 years prior to her death in 1999 and married Betsy in 2000.
Eula "Fay" Moser, 74, passed away on Oct. 30 at her home in Great Bend. Born on May 2, 1939, in Pollard, Okla., she was the daughter of Gilbert Edward and Myrtle Patience (Stout) Hollingsworth. She was a resident of Great Bend since 1962. Over the years, she was employed at the former Thies Development and the Fuller Brush Company, both of Great Bend, and worked as a cook for many years, most recently at the Great Bend Senior Center, until her retirement five years ago. "Weez" Vernon E. Duntz, Jr., 56, died Oct. 28, 2013 at his residence in Raymond. He was born Sept. 12, 1957 in Fremont, Neb. the son of Vernon and Karen (Walters) Duntz, Sr. He was a lifetime Chase and Raymond community resident.
NATOMA - Ruby Daldeen (Fortner) Blazer, 76, died Oct. 28, at Redbud Village in Plainville. Born March 28, 1937 in Gossell, she was the daughter of James Kendall and Belva (Joiner) Fortner. She was a graduate of Kingman High School and attended Sterling College. On April 10, 1981 she married James Everett "Jim" Blazer in St. John. They made their home in Great Bend and later in 1999, they moved to Natoma. She was the owner and operator of the "Special Touch Flower Shop" in Great Bend.
HAYS - Wendelin A. "Buddy" Dinges, 90, died Oct. 27, at the Hays Medical Center. Born Jan. 16, 1923 in Schoenchen, he was the son of Carl and Christina (Dreher) Dinges. On Aug. 26, 1946, he married Alvera Leiker in Hays. She died in 2011. He worked in construction and at the Higher View Dairy, the LK Dairy, and at the Hadley Regional Medical Center.
Carla M. Yahne, 63, died Oct. 27 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Born Aug. 17, 1950 in Wichita, she was the daughter of Max and Genelle (White) Vinson. On June 7, 1970 she married Bruce E. Yahne in Great Bend. She was a graduate of Brown Mackie College and Barton Community College. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a secretary in the oil and gas industry, being employed by Terra Resources and Phillips 66, and was a legal clerk for Kaufman and Horner Law Office.
ELIZABETHTOWN, Kent. - Duane Francis Klug, 64, of Elizabethtown, Kent., passed away Oct. 20, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kent. Born Nov. 4, 1948, in Great Bend, he was the son of Alois (Lou) Klug and Thelma Schneweis Klug. He attended schools in Odin, graduating from Holyrood High School and was a graduate of Kansas State University.
WILLOW SPRING, N.C. -Eric Bortz, devoted family man of Willow Spring, passed away Oct. 24, 2013. Eric was born and raised in Great Bend and moved to North Carolina in 1997. While his life would seem too short to many, those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who he had touched in some small way.
MEADE - Lois A. (Wheeler) Eudaley, 84, died Oct. 25, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center in Meade. Born Feb. 27, 1929, in rural Gridley, she was the daughter of Chester Arthur and Audrey Aileen (Wilson) Wheeler. As a young girl, she attended the Emporia school system, graduating from Emporia High School. On June 4, 1950, she married John "Bill" Eudaley in Emporia.
