Lodema "Dee" Pelster, 81, died Oct. 12 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 9, 1932, at Parsons, the daughter of James LeRoy and Gertrude (Bennett) Garrett. She married Robert LeRoy Pelster Dec. 22, 1953, at Miami, Okla. He died Aug. 25, 1996. A Great Bend resident since 1953, coming from Cherryvale, she was a homemaker.
Larry Robert Ruble, 73, died Oct. 11 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 30, 1939, in Great Bend, he was the son of Frank and Helen (Schwartz) Ruble. In 1958 he graduated from Great Bend High School. On April 3, 1958, he married Vickie Boos at Alva, Okla. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was employed by Marlette Homes for 18 years, GBI for 23 years and was a custodian for USD 428 for 10 years until his retirement.
Randall S. Phillips, 55, died Oct. 9 at his home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 12, 1957, at Great Bend, he was the son of Dale V. and Helen L. (Powers) Phillips. A resident of Great Bend, living in California for 25 years, he was employed by Wal-Mart as a stocker. He loved to golf, target shoot, games, dogs, and was an avid reader and computer whiz.
Dewey Daniel Ball, 86, died Oct. 11 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Oct. 24, 1926, at Japton, Ark. the son of Jacob Asbury and Callie (Kirk) Ball. He married Kathrine Louise Haworth Dec. 15, 1946, at Winfield. She died Nov. 25, 2012. A Great Bend resident for 58 years, coming from Grenola, Kan., and Japton, Ark., he worked for R. J. Allison, Energy Fuels, NRG and Signal Fuels as an L.P. Gas manager.
Richard G. "Dick" Blazek, 81, lifelong Great Bend resident, died Oct. 11 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1931, at Barton County, to Edward and Bertha Therresa (Kratky) Blazek. He graduated from Stafford County Public Schools in 1946. On Oct. 3, 1955, he married Juanita M. Beliel at Raton, N.M. Dick worked as a plumber for Martin Yager Plumbing and Corrigan Plumbing and Heating for several years, and then worked as propane driver for the Great Bend Co-Op Association for many years prior to his retirement.
LYONS - Rae Vivian Zahradnik, 78, died Oct. 8 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born July 9, 1935 in Oklahoma City, Okla., she was the daughter of Roy William and Eleanor Mullinix Revell. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School and Fort Hays State University with a bachelor's degree in education. On June 7, 1959, she married Gordon L. Zahradnik at Wilson. He died on Oct. 8, 2013. A resident of Sterling and Lyons for 50 years, she was a retired teacher at Sterling College and the Wichita School District.
LYONS - Gordon L. Zahradnik, 80, died Oct. 8 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born May 18, 1933 in Wilson, he was the son of Emil and Georgina Chrudimsky Zahradnik. He graduated from the Wilson School system and from Fort Hays State University with a master's degree in education. On June 7, 1959 he married Rae Vivian Revell at Wilson. She died on Oct. 8, 2013. A resident of Sterling and Lyons for 50 years, he was a retired teacher at Sterling College and the Wichita School District.
Annette Kruckenberg, 81, died Oct. 9 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. Born July 19, 1932 in Kiefer, Okla., she was the daughter of Otho E. and Eva (Reynolds) Chancey. On April 3, 1965, she married Robert L. Kruckenberg in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1963, coming from Lyons, she was a homemaker.
PRATT - Mark Alan Schneider, 70, died Oct. 9 at Via Christi – St. Francis in Wichita. Born June 7, 1943, in Wichita, he was the son of Arthur and Marie (Schwertfeger) Schenider. He was a farmer. On June 29, 2002, he married Virginia K. Bunch in Pratt. She survives.
ELLINWOOD - Robert M. Miller, 90, died Sept. 30, at Country Place Senior Living in Ellinwood. Born June 10, 1923 in Rockport, Mo., he was the son of Walter and Nellie Miller. On Nov. 23, 1956, he married Evelyn L. Martin in Rockport, Mo. He was a longtime resident of Ellinwood.
Carol Joan Lundquist passed away Oct. 5, at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend, in much of the same manner in which she was born. She died with strength, grace, and dignity. Carol was born March 27, 1927 at her aunt's home in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Carl John and Rose Caroline (Blum) Pohlman, with a remote chance of survival. Born two months prematurely, Carol was placed in an improvised shoe box incubator by her aunt and father, after the doctor felt there was no hope of survival.
