HUTCHINSON - Lula Mae Alpers, 75, died Oct. 15 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born May 5, 1938, at Buffalo, Okla., she was the daughter of Walker Clinton and Elma Mae (Harmon) Irion. Lula Mae graduated from Northwestern College in Alva, Okla., with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. On Aug. 12, 1964, she married Wayne L. Alpers.The couple shared 49 years together. He survives. She was an elementary teacher and substitute teacher for schools in Stafford County and was a homemaker.
OLMITZ - Robert J. "Bobby" Ludwig, 54, died Oct. 16 at his home in Olmitz. Born Aug. 30, 1959, in Great Bend, he was the son of Robert G. and Marjorie L. (Debes) Ludwig. In 1978 he graduated from Hoisington High School. On Feb. 11, 1984, he married Veronica Bowden at Great Bend. A lifelong area resident, he was employed by Gerald Schneider construction and was employed by Kansas Brick and Tile for 23 years. ELLINWOOD - Dale Hartig, 80, passed away Oct. 15 at the Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Nov. 17, 1932, at Strong City, he was the son of Herman and Glenna Rose (Crouch) Hartig. A resident of Ellinwood since 1955, he was a carpenter and worked maintenance at Barton Community College. On Jan. 11, 1957, he married Ella Jane (Koch) at Ellinwood.
NESS CITY - Edna E. Wegele, 90, passed away Oct. 16 at Avita Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wichita. Born April 12, 1923, in Barton County, she was the daughter of John and Pauline Popp Maier. A near lifetime resident of Ness County, coming from Barton County in 1929, she was a bank officer. On May 7, 1944, she married Paul Wegele in Milberger. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2001.
James L. "Jim" Weathers, 83, passed away on Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, at his home. Born on Feb. 22, 1930, in rural Barton County, he was the son of Roscoe and Mabel Mae (Denbo) Weathers. He was reared on the family farm and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in Guam. On June 10, 1956, he was united in marriage to M. Elaine Bauer in Larned. He farmed southwest of Great Bend nearly all of his life, until very recently when ill health prevented him from working.
Leo Wilson Orebaugh, 93, died Oct. 17 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 26, 1919, at Tyro, Kan., the son of Clark O. and Alta P. (Wilson) Orebaugh. He married Edna Jurgensen April 24, 1941, at Albert. She died May 11, 2002.
HOISINGTON - Rhiannon Marie Young, 33, died Oct. 14 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. Born May 1, 1980 at Dodge City, she was the daughter of Harold Lee and Sarah (Millirons) Young.
