GARDEN CITY - Robert G. Rowley, 88, died, Aug. 30 at the High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. He was born on Jan. 13, 1925, in Barton County, the son of Glen and Roberta "Bird" Murdy Rowley. On May 12, 1946, he married Darlene Phillips at Beaver. She died Sept. 6, 1999, in Wichita. A resident of Garden City since 1969, he worked in the oil field as a pumper and he also farmed.
Armella Margaret Bianchino, 92, died Aug. 30 at Villa St. Joseph, Overland Park. She was born Dec. 1, 1920, at Schoenchen, the daughter of Alex and Regina (Gottschalk) Bieker. She married Sal Bianchino Sept. 18, 1945, at Hays. He died April 25, 2012.
William D. "Bill" Mead, 70, died Aug. 30 at his home in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 27, 1942, at Coffeyville, the son of Elmer and Aldine (Randel) Mead. He married Evelyn Bristor July 9, 1961, at Great Bend. Bill was a graduate of Fort Hays State University. He had been a Great Bend resident since 2003, coming from Herndon, Va.
HOISINGTON - Mary Anabel Markel Tarlton died Aug. 30, 2013, at the age of 93. Mary was born in Hoisington on Nov. 4, 1919, to Harry Edward and Ada Dundas Markel. She was their seventh child and only daughter. A lifelong resident of Hoisington, Mary lived in the house in which she was born up until last year, when she moved to Wichita for additional care.
Bonnie Leora Evitt, 87, died Aug. 27, 2013, at Sunshine Meadows Nursing Home, Buhler. She was born Jan. 31, 1926, in Joplin, Mo. to Clarence and Verda Jeanette Webster Shelton. She was a machinist at Cessna.
Robert Charles "Bob" Sparks, 76, died Aug. 25 at Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo. Born Feb. 7, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Okla., he was the son of Lee and Audrey (Kennedy) Sparks. On Dec. 20, 1959 he married Ellen Ora "Punky" Ford in Great Bend. She died on March 22, 2011. A resident of Cameron, Mo. since 2011, coming from Great Bend, he was Territory Manager for Eco Lab and was previously employed at Marlette Homes and Liberty Homes.
Sister Amata Pantel, 95, died Aug. 24, at the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary, in Great Bend. Born April 25, 1918, in Wakefield, as Josephine Pantel, Sister Amata was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Bower Pantel. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community Aug. 28, 1934, and pronounced her first vows on Aug. 12, 1937. She celebrated 75 years of religious profession in 2012. Sister Amata gave much of her ministerial life to domestic work in the sisters' missions, laundries, kitchens and sewing rooms. Helen J. Suchy, 89, died Aug. 24 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born June 9, 1924 in Pawnee County, she was the daughter of Emil and Amiela (Vozoboj) Vsetecka. On Dec. 29, 1943 she married Alvie J. Suchy in Olmitz. He died on Nov. 14, 1986. She was a resident of Great Bend since 1943, coming from Timken. She enjoyed all aspects of homemaking, including sewing, crocheting, baking, and gardening. She also enjoyed her pet dogs and rock hunting and collecting.
