CLAFLIN - Kurt Herbert Fuhr, 92, joined his Maker and others in Heaven on Holy Saturday, April 7. He was the last born to Fredrick and Hattie Fuhr in Bromburg, Poland on Sept. 11, 1919. He grew up in Claflin and attended Great Bend High School. In 1961, he was baptized in the Methodist faith. He was a lifeguard and Eagle Scout. He was married to Eledra Mae Fuhr on April 9, 1943 until her death on March 12, 1984. He was married to Beverly Kay Fuhr on Sept. 14, 1987 until her death on Aug. 18, 2010.
ELLSWORTH - Ray Alvin Rolfs, 45, died April 15 at Salina Regional Medical Center. Born July 10, 1966 in Ellsworth, he was the son of Alvin D. and Johnetta G. Kaiser Rolfs. Formerly of Great Bend, he was a resident of Mosaic in Ellsworth. He attended schools in Geneseo and Lyons. He loved playing basketball and running track for Special Olympics.
Roger D. Hickey, 63, died April 13 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Nov. 4, 1948, at Topeka, to Ray and Twila (Epply) Hickey. He married Janelle Brower on Nov. 21, 2001, at Las Vegas, Nev. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he owned Hickey Sheet Metal.
LARNED - Betty J. Fleske, 88, died April 13 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born May 8, 1923, in Pawnee County, she was the daughter of Elmer and Bessie Flick Kirkwood. On Sept. 15, 1948, she married Elmer Fleske at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Albert. He died on April 4, 1994. A lifetime area resident, she worked on the farm with her husband for many years.
SALINA - William Henry Troutman, 89, Salina, died April 9 in Inman. Born Nov. 1, 1922 in Altoona, he was the son of Henry and Mabel (Smith) Troutman. He was a vice-president of sales for the Mountain Iron and Supply Company, retiring in 1997.
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Karen Marlene Bokelman (nee Carlson) of Doylestown, Pa., died suddenly on April 4 at home with her family by her side. She was 76 years old, and died as she had lived, thinking first about the happiness of her family and wide circle of close friends.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Kathleen Pafford, 68, died on Dec. 28, 2011. Born Aug. 4, 1943 in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Harold and Geraldine (Kienzle) Schwartz. After graduating from Great Bend High School, she received her bachelor's degree at UCO in Edmond, Okla., and later received her master's degree at OU in Norman, Okla. She worked as a flight attendant for Frontier Airlines and later moved to Oklahoma City where she met and married her beloved husband of 37 years, Jim Pafford. SALINA - William Henry Troutman, 89, Salina, was born Nov. 1, 1922, at Altoona, to Henry and Mabel (Smith) Troutman, and died April 9, 2012, at Inman. HOISINGTON - Mary Ann Schreiber, 81, died April 7, 2012 at Sterling House in Great Bend. Born Sept. 12, 1930 in Brownell, she was the daughter of William Halbleib and Elvah Longstreth and Clyde Ricks. On Feb. 28, 1949 she married Richard J. Schreiber in Ransom. He died on July 4, 1994. She grew up in Brownell moving to Beaver in 1951 and later to Hoisington in 1998.
RUSSELL - Fara Mae (Brack) Popp, 81, passed away May 17, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 13, 1933, on the family farm north of Otis, she was the daughter of Edwin and Phoebe (Keil) Brack. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Otis High School. On June 15, 1958, she married Paul Popp in Otis. She was a homemaker and assisted her parents on the farm when needed.
WINFIELD - Susan Marie (Feldman) Quint, 46, of Winfield, went to her Heavenly home on May 15, after a valiant fight with Brain Cancer. She was born March 19, 1969, in Great Bend to Richard and Jackye (Strother) Feldman. Susan graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Barton County Community College. She obtained an Office Manager degree from Wichita Area Vocational Technical College and an Associate Degree from Cowley County Community College in Early Childhood Education. Julia Ann Barnes, 54, died May 16, at her home in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1960, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of James R. Jr., and Joyce L. (Mohr) Lofland. On Nov. 14, 1981, she married Jeff Barnes in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was employed in retirement plan management at CPI Qualified Plan Consultants for more than 15 years. She had a great love of quilting.

OSBORNE - Kenneth G. "Shorty" Hackerott, formally of Pawnee Rock, died on Feb. 28, 2015, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne. Born on July 17, 1936, in Rooks County, he was the son of Otto R.
