ELLIS - Rose Ann (Werth) Sipes, 75, passed away Nov. 27 at the Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born May 3, 1937 in rural Schoenchen, she was the daughter of August and Dorothy (Werth) Werth. In 1955 she graduated from Schoenchen High School. She was employed by Adronics of Hays as an assembly line worker. She was a loving and devoted grandmother. She enjoyed spending time at the farm especially during calving season.
Verlin L. Oeser, 74, died Nov. 29 at his is residence in Great Bend. Born Nov. 1, 1938, at Great Bend, he was the son of Henry and Iva (Buehler) Oeser. He married Carmen Fox on Feb. 1, 1958, at Claflin. They later divorced. He then married Cindy Wright McDaniel on Jan. 16, 1999, at Great Bend. She survives.
HOISINGTON - Olive Marie Gage, 96, formerly of Hoisington, passed away Nov. 27 at her daughter's home in Olathe. Born Oct. 29, 1916 in Gypsum, she was the daughter of Elmer and Lillian Elva King. Her father was a United Brethren minister and the family moved many places including Topeka, Wichita, Salina and Glendive, Mont. Olive met her husband Leonard Gage at a church camp in Beloit, and they made their home on a farm north east of Hoisington for 65 years.
STERLING - Richard "Dick" Mead, 83, died Nov. 26 at Wesley Medical Center. Born May 23, 1929 in Sterling, he was the son of Rollin and Essie Smith Mead. In 1947, he graduated from Sterling High School. On Oct. 30, 1955, he married Margaret "Beth" Terrill in Sterling, Colo. She died on March 31, 2012. A resident of Wichita since 2009, formerly of Sterling, he was retired as president and superintendent for Sterling Drilling Company.
HOISINGTON - Janice (Jany) A. Aylward, 62, died Nov. 26 in rural Hoisington. Born Feb. 23, 1950 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Harlan (Mac) and Velma (Beck) McMillin. She was a 1968 graduate of Hoisington High School. On June 6, 1969 she married Michael Aylward in Hoisington. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, she was a rural postal carrier. She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, family and friends and was always willing to help anyone. She took great pride in serving the patrons on her rural mail route and considered them all family.
Katherine Louise Ball, 83, died Nov. 25 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 17, 1929 in Atlanta, she was the daughter of Shelton C. and Veatrice (Wakefield) Haworth. On Dec. 15, 1946 she married Dewey Daniel Ball in Winfield. A resident of Great Bend since 1955, coming from Plainville, she was a homemaker. She along, with her husband, was a beekeeper. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, sewing, knitting, and Scrabble.
Gregory Allen Bean, 54, died Nov. 25 at his home in Great Bend. Born April 4, 1958 in Great Bend, he was the son of Paul and Norma (Trent) Bean. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a motorcycle mechanic for Great Bend Yahama. He raced motorcycles winning many state titles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.
LARNED - Daunele D. Prescott, 70, died Nov. 23 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born March 24, 1942, in Ellinwood, she was adopted by J.D. and Lydia Groves. A longtime resident of Larned, she was a retired Licensed Mental Health Technician and Clothing Aid at the Larned State Hospital. On May 3, 1964, she married Gerald L. Prescott in Albert. He survives.
Catherine Rose Hazen, 86, of Great Bend passed away at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover on Nov. 24 after a brief illness. Born on Jan. 31, 1926 in Ellsworth, she was the daughter of Henry Rudolph and Martha Lena (Herber) Nienke. She was united in marriage to Bernard "Buck" George Hazen on Aug. 16, 1944 at his parents' home in Erie. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2008. HUTCHINSON - Sylvia Fern Marker, 94, died Nov. 23 at her home in Hutchinson. Born Dec. 12, 1917 in Nickerson, she was the daughter of Harvey H. and Ida Toewes VanNorman. In October of 1937, she married Lloyd Albert Marker. Together the two enjoyed many years of weekend camping trips before Lloyd's death in August of 2002. A resident of Sterling for 65 years before moving to Hutchinson in 2002, she was a homemaker.
Guillermo "Will" Resendiz, 31, died Nov. 25 at his home in Great Bend. Born Feb. 6, 1981 in McAllen, Texas, he was the son of Atanacio and Teresa (Rivera) Resendiz. He married Adelita Diaz in Edinburg, Texas. A resident of Great bend since 1987, coming from McAllen, Texas, he was employed by KMW Loaders as a plasma operator.
LARNED - Wilbur Dean Dirks, 84, passed away Nov. 22 at his home in Larned. He was born March 7, 1928 in Pawnee County, the son of John Jacob Dirks and Anna Marie George. He was a resident of both Larned and Wichita. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Larned and attended Evangel Assembly of God, Wichita.
