Wilma R. Munz Bennett, 87, died Sept. 15 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born June 22, 1925 in Kansas City, she was the daughter of Charles Warren and Verda Alta (Post) Lewallen. In August 1949 she married Robert G. Munz in Hutchinson. He died on Dec. 1, 1986. In November 1996 she married Charles Bennett in Wichita. He died on Aug. 14, 2001. A resident of Stafford County and Sedgwick County most of her life, she was a homemaker.
DAMAR - Jerome Benoit, 86, died Sept. 13 at the Graham County Hospital in Hill City. Born Feb. 10, 1926, in rural Damar, he was the son of Armond and Theresa (Boucher) Benoit. On June 12, 1944, he married Teresa Bernice Thyfault in Damar. She died on April 29, 2005. A lifetime area resident of Damar, he was a dairy farmer and a stockman.
Bobett Teresa Beran, 83, of Great Bend, formerly of Odin and Hoisington, passed away on Sept. 14 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Aug. 15, 1929, in Pique, she was the daughter of Robert T. and Teresa (Stouffe) Lott. She graduated from Yates Center High School. On Oct. 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to Eugene A. Beran in Pique. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1998. Bobett was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She touched the hearts of everyone she met.
LARNED - Fredrick "Fred" L. Reno, 71, died Sept. 13 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born July 9, 1941, in Kankakee, Ill., he was the son of Irvin and Marian Bittle Reno. A resident of Larned since 2005, formerly of Kingman, he was a retired computer programmer. On March 14, 1964, he married Mary Charlene Johnston in Derby. She survives. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and always had plans for tomorrow.
James Luther "Swede" Hemphill, 85, died Sept. 12 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. He was born July 26, 1927, at Byers, the son of Emmett W. and Trella (Clark) Hemphill. He married Joan Guinn, Oct. 7, 1950. He lived in Great Bend the past year, moving from rural Seward, having lived there 30 years. He retired from the Great Bend Co-op in 1989. He had also worked part time for the Stafford County Road Department.
OLMITZ - John William Haynie II, 38, died Sept. 11 at his residence in Olmitz. Born Dec. 3, 1973, in Stuttgart, Germany, he was the son of Glyn and Paula (Woodward) Haynie. On April 12, 1997 he married Stacy Owens in Fort Leavenworth. A resident of the Hoisington area since 2004, coming from Leavenworth, he was a finance manager for Marmie Chrysler in Great Bend. He liked camping, boating, fishing and the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his great group of friends.
GILLETTE, Wyo. - Gayle Ann Bell, 58, died Sept. 2nd. Born Oct. 9, 1958 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Gale and Shirley Juby. Her family moved from Perry, Okla., to Gillette in 1972. She graduated from Campbell County High School in 1976. On Oct. 22, 1977, she married Rick Bell.
ENID, Okla. - Robert Rae "Bob" Rowe, 57, died Sept. 7 at his home in Enid, Okla. He was born May 15, 1955 in Winfield, the son of Billie Rae and Patricia Joan (Sumner) Rowe. On July 20, 1974, he married Charlotte Rathbun in Great Bend. An Enid, Okla. resident since 2006, coming from Great Bend, he was the owner and operator of Rowe Wireline Service from 2006 to 2011. Gordon Schmidt, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Scott County Hospital in Scott City. Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Barton County, he was the son of Amos and Augusta Rodenberg Schmidt. A resident of Scott City since 1945, he was a farmer. On Dec. 9, 1948, he married Jeannine Clinton at the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend,Kans. She survives.
Dorothy R. O'Connell, 98, died Sept. 8 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born March 10, 1914 in Bison, she was the daughter of Harvey Robert and Grace Maude (Crotinger) Timken. On June 4, 1936 she married Earl Ronald O'Connell in Bison. He died on Aug. 21, 2001. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker.
Harlie Edwin Nutting, 99, died Sept. 7, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Feb. 2, 1913 at Aberdeen, Idaho, he was the son of John W. and Mary Ellen (Esery) Sisler. At the age of four, he was adopted by Lewis and Emma (Lynn) Nutting and moved to Southwest Mo. On March 18, 1934, he married Helen Luticia Sanders at Rural Stafford County. She died on Jan. 30, 2005. Mr. Nutting started farming as a teenager with a team of horses. He was a farmer and ranch foreman for W. A. Cross Ranch for 25 years. In 2002 ...
