Marguerite Stricker, 87, of Great Bend, died Thursday at Cherry Village Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 10, 1923 in rural aArgonia, the daughter of Ray and Gertrude(Brown) Medlam.
Kiah Kay Mead, 21, was called to be with her Heavenly Father on Dec. 14, at her parents' home in Great Bend, surrounded by family. She was born Jan. 18, 1989, in Great Bend, the daughter of Vonda Halfhill and Stephen R. Mead. She lived in Great Bend with her husband Doug Freeman and two daughters, Haevyn, 3, and Nayomi, 1. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 2007, and had attended Barton Community College. She was employed at Walmart, primarily in the photo department.
WOOSTER, Ohio - Letha D. Wells, 81, passed away quietly early Monday morning, Dec. 14, 2010, following a short illness at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

She was born Feb. 23, 1935, at Great Bend, the daughter of Harley Ray and Ruth Ann (Alefs) Evers. She married Ronnie Piper on Sept. 25, 1955, at Great Bend. She was a nurse. A Missouri City, Texas, resident since 1988, she moved from Great Bend in 1962, living in Tulsa, Okla., and New Orleans, La.
LAKE CHARLES, La. - Norma Lee Garrett. 82, died Dec. 4 at Christus Saint Patrick Hospital, Lake Charles, La. She was born May 10, 1928, at Great Bend, the daughter of Harry M. and Mary Anna (Weber) Schartz. She married Thomas Burke Garrett Dec. 29, 1948, at Ellinwood. He died May 19, 1982.

HOLYROOD - Ben Walter Turner, 84, died Dec. 10 at Holyrood. Born Oct. 1, 1926, in Pawhuska, Okla., he was the son of Harold Clifford and Rachel Irene (McNatt) Turner. A resident of Holyrood for 16 years, coming from Herington, he was a laborer. On Sept. 23, 1950, he married Cornelia Joyce (McBride) at Red Lodge, Mont.
David F. Ellis, 58, of Great Bend, died Dec. 11 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Nov. 21, 1952, at Great Bend, the son of Clifford John and Laverne L. (Lewis) Ellis.
Nadine Christiansen, 83, of Great Bend, died Dec. 12 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Barton County, the daughter of Virgil and Lucille (Newkirk) Amerine. She married Gerald J. Christiansen July 14, 1946, at Great Bend. A lifetime Great Bend resident, she was a homemaker.
SMYRNA, Tenn. - Alan Delaine Meyers, 46, died Dec. 11 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was born March 21, 1964, at Russell, the son of Delaine F. and Donna M. (Weigel) Meyers. A Smyrna, Tenn., resident, coming from Great Bend, he was a manager for Whole Foods grocery stores for many years.
HICKORY, N.C. - Dr. Keith Melvin Ochs, "Doc", 74, died peacefully at home on Dec. 6, due to declining health. Keith was born, Sept. 24, 1936, in Great Bend, to the late Melvin C. Ochs and Emma Schneider Ochs. He was employed by Lenoir-Rhyne University during the years of 1970 until his retirement in 1996. He played an integral role in the school's transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II. He supervised the expansion of Moretz Stadium and helped plan the Shuford Physical Education Complex, which was completed in 1978.
MALVERN, Ark. - Brandon "Teddy Bear" Williams, 45, passed away at his home Nov. 27. He was born April 25, 1965, in Hastings, Neb., the son of Rickey and Connie (Oetken) Williams. Brandon had worked at Precision Industries for 20 years and was a member of the Reyburn Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
NEKOMA - John F. Jones, 85, died Dec. 8 at the Rhode Island Suites in Ransom. Born June 27, 1925, in Cromwell, Okla., he was the son of Herbert and Lenora (Hibbard) Jones. He was a 1943 graduate of Stafford High School. A resident of rural Nekoma for more than 50 years, moving from Stafford, he was an agent for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company and a farmer before his retirement.

HOISINGTON - Kirby Dean Ricke, 61, died Oct. 11, at Almost Home in Great Bend. Born July 2, 1953, in Alva, Okla., he was the son of Theodore Dean and Darlene (Huffman) Ricke. Kirby graduated in 1971 from Hoisington High School. He was active in both vocal music and band programs, excelling at the trumpet. Nadine Dreiling, 81, died October 10, 2014, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born June 25, 1933, in Neck City, Mo., the daughter of George and Vera Sargent Moore. A resident of Great Bend since 1954, moving from Chase, she and her husband owned and operated Don's Food Mart, and she retired from Dillons Pharmacy.
HOISINGTON - Lila Jean Haberman, 80, died Oct. 11 at her daughter's home in Olmitz. She was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Galatia, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Steinert) Wagner. Paul E. Dyer, 84, died Oct. 8 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Feb. 20, 1930, in Great Bend, he was the son of Homer and Katherine (Jones) Dyer. On Jan. 4, 1954, he married Julitta M. Elsen, in Great Bend. She died on March 12, 1995. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend.
John D. Trimmer, 65, of Great Bend and formerly of Pawnee Rock and Dundee, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 8, at Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. He was born on Feb. 11, 1949, at Belleville, to George Franklin and Edna Alene (Larr) Trimmer. He graduated from Republic County Schools in 1965 and was united in marriage to Diana Levingston on June 10, 1976, at Pawnee Rock. She died on July 22, 2013. John worked as a chain hand in the oilfield prior to his retirement. He enjoyed rock collecting, watching wrestling and spending time with family.

She graduated high school in Fredonia. She was a convenience store manager for 30 years. On June 28, 1970, she married Larry Franks in Fredonia. She and Larry moved to Cimarron from Great Bend, and spent the last three years RVing full time. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing cards.
LA CROSSE - Viola Mae Yost, 99, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Oct. 7, at Locust Grove Village in La Crosse. Born Viola Mae Wimmer on July 25, 1915, in Harlan, she was the daughter of Harvey Lester and Mary Ann Zion Wimmer. She graduated from Portis High School, attended college at York College for two years, then finished her teaching education at Fort Hays State University. Robert J. "Bob" Tittel, 56, passed away on Sunday morning, Oct. 5, at Great Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born on Jan. 23, 1958 in Ness City, he was the son of Benhardt and Hildegard Frieda Emma (Schettler) Tittel. In 1976, he graduated from Ness City High School, and that same year he moved to Great Bend. A longtime Great Bend resident, he worked for many years as a cable technician for CableVision in Great Bend until health issues prevented him from working. Bob was a bit of a Jack-of-all-trades, and enjoyed many activities, including auto body restoration.
James W. Herren, 92, died Oct. 6, at Sumner County Care Center in Wellington. Born June 24, 1922, in Great Bend, he was the son of George L. and Minda (Knighton) Herren. On July 10, 1978, he married Beverly A. Barnes in Wichita. She preceded him in death. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a supervisor for Kansas Foundation for the Blind.
