MITCHELL, S.D. - Ethel Bainbridge, age 83, of Mitchell, S.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Home in Brandon, S.D. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Will Funeral Chapel.
LARNED - Joe Dudley Hicks, 64, died Dec. 9 at his home, Larned. He was born Sept. 19, 1949 in Great Bend, the son of Burl Dudley and Eunice Lucille Shuss Hicks. A lifetime area resident he was a Registered Nurse at the Larned State Hospital for 30 years retiring in 2001.
NORMAN – Okla. - Nina Mae Hale passed away on Nov. 30, at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman, Okla. after a brief illness. Born Oct. 25, 1931, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Hazel and George Merten. She grew up in Great Bend and graduated from Great Bend High School. On Jan. 7, 1952 she married Kenneth Hale in Great Bend. They raised two daughters and two sons. In 1972, the family moved to Lindsay, Okla. LARNED - Norma J. Haynes, 82, died Dec. 6 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. Born May 1, 1931, in Cloud County, she was the daughter of Earl and Alberta Allen Snavely. She was the Vice President of Haynes Electric, Inc.
BURDETT- Lawrence L. Bauer, 88, died Dec. 6, at the Country Place Senior Living, Larned. Born Dec. 28, 1924 in Burdett, he was the son of Philip and Frances (Mooney) Bauer. A lifetime area resident; he was a farmer and stockman.
TOPEKA - Noted local artist, Louise Brock Hamilton, passed away on Dec. 5. She was born in Great Bend on April 25, 1932, to George and Ella Jane Heim of Ellinwood. Louise completed her early education in the Ellinwood schools. She majored in drawing and painting in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She continued her education at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo., and Washburn University, Topeka.
