Lenora M. "Foots" Matney, 79, of Great Bend and formerly of Pawnee Rock passed away on Monday afternoon, Nov. 11 at her home in Great Bend. Lenora was born on April 11, 1934 at Boise City, Okla. to Lewis F. and Geneva May (Merwin) Raybern. She spent the earlier part of her life in the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles, except for the eight years they lived in Pueblo, Colo. Lenora moved to Great Bend from the Texas panhandle in 1967.
LARNED - Leon Shearrer, 72, died Nov. 10, 2013 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 29, 1941, in Wagner, Okla., he was the son of David Fred and Edna Witt Shearrer. On June 10, 1962, he married Virginia Swartz at Macksville. She died on June 5, 2006.
OAKLEY - Galyn F. Crossley, 83, died Nov. 2 in Hays. Born June 27, 1930, in Great Bend, he was the son of Arden and Darlene (Baumgartner) Crossley. On June 5, 1955, he married Naomi Ruth Gaskill in Wellington. His banking career began in Hoisington as vice president of a Hoisington bank. In 1972, he was employed at The Farmers State Bank in Oakley, where he served as senior vice president, CEO and then as president.
DUNDEE - Byron Keith Nelson, 74, died Nov. 10 at his home. Born April 8, 1939, in Clay Center, he was the son of Raymond Emanuel and Nina Irene (Fritz) Nelson. He was raised in Cleburne, Olsburg and Alta Vista areas, graduating from Alta Vista High School. He attended Kansas State University, studying biology and wildlife management. On Sept. 11, 1960, he married Carolyn Parsons in White city. She survives. A Great Bend resident since 1970, coming from Lawrence, he and his wife owned and operated the family business, Schendel Pest Control, from 1970 until they sold the business in 2008.

Melvin V. Keil, 92, died Nov. 10 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. Born Aug. 9, 1921 in Rush County, he was the son of Siegmund and Ernestine Karoline (Becker) Keil. On May 5, 1951, he married Elizabeth Jane Parish in Great Bend. She died on June 10, 2012. A resident of Great Bend since 1942, coming from Rush County, he was a heavy equipment operator, working for Knupp Construction and Nichol Construction.
HAYS - Doris Arlene Karst, 87, died Nov. 10, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on Sept. 16, 1926, in rural Barton County, she was the daughter of Emanuel and Martha (Steinert) Ochs. On May 26, 1946, she married Albert Karst in Milberger. She received her teaching certificate at Fort Hays Teacher's College and taught school at Milberger, for two years. She received her LPN diploma in 1975 from Fort Hays State University. Her nursing career spanned over 30 years. WICHITA - Douglas Dean Rosenberg, age 65, of Wichita went to be with the Lord on Nov. 9, 2013, after a three year battle with cancer. He was born to Verlyn and Lillian Rosenberg June 14, 1948, at Phillipsburg.
