HAYS - LaVera F. Schuckman, 77, Hays died Nov. 7 at St. John's of Victoria. She was born Feb. 16, 1934.
STAFFORD - Judith E. "Judy" Espinosa, 71, Stafford, passed away Nov. 6 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. Born Aug. 16, 1940 in Ponca City, Okla., she was the daughter of Bob and lola Mae (Graves) Snow. On April 4, 1992 she married Jose A "Joe" Espinosa. He survives. She worked as a cook in nursing homes at Moline and St. John, and at the hospital in Hoisington and was also a homemaker.
GREAT BEND - Donna Jean Adney, 64, of Great Bend, passed away at her home Nov. 3, 2011.
LARNED - John Roy Van Cleave 99, died Nov. 6 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned. He was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Toronto, the son of Roy C. and Nellie Stump Van Cleave. On July 15, 1934, he married Gertrude Unruh at Larned. She died Feb. 14, 2005. A longtime area resident, he was a farmer.
LARNED - Leo Schinstock, 66, died Nov. 4 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
ELLINWOOD - Helen Mae Berscheidt Tomberlin passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011 at Sterling House in Great Bend after a long life filled with love for her family and devotion to the land from which she came.
NEWTON - Larry Mann Hesed, 66, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 at his Newton residence.
LARNED - Hugh E. Snyder, 74, died November 3, 2011, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
LITTLETON, Colo. - Willie Edwin Schultz, 78, died on July 7, 2011 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. surrounded by his wife, children and grandson.
SALINA - Travis Aaron Keil, 34, of Salina, passed away Oct. 29, 2011 in Atchison.
EL DORADO - R. Lorraine Holmes, 81, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011 at Lakepoint Nursing Center, El Dorado.
BENNINGTON - Phyllis J. Watts, 88, Bennington, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at her home.
ELLINWOOD - Helen Mae Berscheidt Tomberlin, age 94, died Wednesday at Sterling House in Great Bend. Arrangements and services will be announced by Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood.
HOISINGTON - Mary Catherine Weeks, 83, died Nov. 2 at her home in Hoisington. Born Jan. 5, 1928 in Dubuque, she was the daughter of Henry and Philomena (Eckart) Casey. On June 4, 1947 she married John E. Weeks in Dubuque. He died Dec. 22, 1990. A resident of Hoisington since 1952, coming from Russell and Ellinwood, she was an administrative assistant for Barton Community College, office manager for Roxana Oil and was employed at Verna's Clothing in Hoisington.
LARNED - Virgie J. Rector, 79, passed away Nov. 2 at Larned Healthcare Center. Born Oct. 1, 1932, she was the daughter of Charles T. Dalton Sr. and Alta Leatherman. A Larned resident since 1975, moving from Dodge City, she was a Licensed Mental Health Aide for the Larned State Hospital. On April 15, 1948, she married John G. Rector in Cimmaron. He passed away April 29, 1996.
Frank E. Thurman, 65, of Great Bend, passed away on Friday evening, Dec. 5, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Born Sept. 25, 1949, in Scottsbluff, Neb., he was the son of Arthur and Ethel (Deeder) Thurman. On June 29, 2000, he was united in marriage to Mary Walsh in Council Grove. A Great Bend resident since 2006, having moved here from Alta Vista, he loved NASCAR, and had a passion for fixing up old cars and spending precious time with his grandchildren.
HOISINGTON - Teresa Marie Rome, 87, died Dec. 9 at her home Hoisington. Born Oct. 23, 1927, in Odin, she was the daughter of Frank and Antoinette (Hermann) Gerritzen. In 1955, she married Norbert Joseph Rome. He died on June 6, 1981. A longtime resident of Hoisington, she worked as a dietary aide for Clara Barton Hospital. She enjoyed playing pinochle and watching her grandchildren's activities.
Daniel Nobles, 88, died Dec. 7 at Life Care Center, Wichita. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, Kansas.
Karl Lee Brack, 84, died Dec. 7, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Nov. 29, 1930, in Larned, he was the son of Sol M. and Neva M. (Toots) Brack. He was a 1948 graduate of Great Bend High School and received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Kansas State University in 1953. On Sept. 28, 1958, he married Loreta J. "Reta" Hill in Hoisington. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Mr. Brack began work at KCKT-TV as a sales representative until February 1956, when he started work for American State Bank and Bank IV, retiring in 1991 ...
HOISINGTON - Velma H. McMillin, 90, died Dec. 4 at Via Christi Hospital, St. Francis, in Wichita. Born Jan. 20, 1924, in Melvern, she was the daughter of Oscar and Hazel (Goldsmith) Beck. On Nov. 30, 1940, she married H.D. McMillin in Ottawa. He died July 23, 1993. A resident of Hoisington since 1940, she worked as a florist for many years and she was also the co-owner of Trinkets and Treasures, an antique shop in Hoisington. She was an avid sports fan cheering for the Chiefs, Kansas University and the Green Bay Packers.
