He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 6, 1951, to DH and Patricia Smith. He leaves behind his wife, Roxie, son, Dr. Brian Smith (Emily) of Wichita, and daughter Abby Andrus (Adam) of Denver, Colo.

ELLINWOOD - F. William (Bill) Koop, 91, died July 7 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Nov. 5, 1919, near Mitchell, S.D., he was the son of Ferdinand and Mary Winter Koop. In 1937, he graduated from Mitchell High School in Mitchell, S.D. In 1948 and 1950 he graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Washington, Seattle. He was awarded a Carnegie Fellowship in 1949.
GARDEN CITY - Jessica Cheyanne Shearer (Potter), 15, of Garden City, former resident of Sublette, died on July 4 in Great Bend. Born Feb. 19, 1996, in La Junta, Colo., she was the daughter of Stephen Shearer and Alida Dawn Shriver.

SEWARD -Billy G. Owen, 71, died July 3 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. He was born July 8, 1939 at Great Bend, the son of William and Alberta (McNett) Owen.

BEATRICE, Neb. - Karen L. Kirkpatrick, 88 years and 27 days of age, passed away at her home Saturday morning, Oct. 18th. She was born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Hoisington, to Duke and Opal (Sypolt) Van Brimmer. Karen was a 1944 graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Wichita State University for two years. BRYAN, Texas - Lucio Armando Cano, 54, passed away Oct. 15. Born March 1, 1960, in Mexico, he was the son of Guadalupe (Montes) Cano. Armando was a loving soul and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
LARNED - Dale Otte, 76, passed away Oct. 17, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Jan. 4, 1938, in Great Bend, he was the son of Wilmer and Leah Dorfshaffer Otte. A longtime area resident he was a farmer/stockman. On Sept. 16, 1956, he married Karen Rice in Great Bend. She survives.

John was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on May 23, 1933, and worked briefly in the Merchant Marines before beginning a distinguished career in the industrial gas business. RUSSELL - Richard Henry Dumler, 88, found peace on Oct. 14, after a long battle with multiple illnesses. At the time of his death, he lived at Rose Estates assisted living in Overland Park. Born on April 19, 1926, in Russell, he was the son of Henry and Agnes Dumler. His mother later married Ted Gariepy. He attended high school in Russell, where he was a sports star. There he met cheerleader Betty Joanne Kilian. He entered the service in 1944, serving in the United States Army Air Force until 1945. He married Betty Jo on June 1, 1947.
