Harmon E. "Shorty" Allinger, 77, died April 1 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born March 21, 1934, at Great Bend, the son of Harmon C. and Goldie (Miles) Allinger. He married Velma Leiker on Jan. 14, 1958, at Hays. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he owned and operated H&H Auto Electric.
MISSION, Texas - Leona M. Wess Blankenship, 92, died April 1 at the Mission Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mission, Texas. Born April 27, 1918, in Great Bend, was the daughter of Theodore P. and Sarah Ellen Gilbert Wess. Leona Wess and Donald Carroll Blankenship were married on Oct. 11, 1935, in Great Bend. She was a homemaker on the farm until the girls started high school. She worked for Honaker Drilling Inc. and moved first to Oleander Acres and then to Enchanted Valley Ranch in Mission, Texas.
Billie Lou Burgardt, 61, died April 1 at Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, Ill. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend.
LARNED – John Mariche Perez, 67, died March 31 at his home in Larned. Born March 2, 1944, at Dodge City, he was the son of Clemente Rincon and Lucille Mariche Perez. A lifetime resident of the Edwards and Pawnee County area, he was a Licensed Mental Health Technician at the Larned State Hospital. On Aug. 16, 1969, he married Mary Lynn Stejskal at Miami, Okla. She survives.

Maurice Doolen "Dooley" Edman, 85, died March 29 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 20, 1926 in Great Bend, he was the son of Maurice J. and Martha Lois (Doolen) Edman. He graduated from Great Bend High School and attended the University of Washington in Seattle Wash., majoring in Civil Engineering. A Great Bend resident since 1956, coming from McPherson, he worked for Evans-Rondeau engineering firm, Hallibutron Oil Well Cementing Company and was the Barton County Engineer for 36 years. Born Dec. 28, 1924 on the family farm outside of Russell, he was the son of John A. and Dorothy Ruth (Lacey) Brown. He grew up in Russell County and graduated from Russell High School in 1942. On Dec. 28, 1947 he married Marjorie Anne Moore. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2010. LARNED - Dale Otte, 76, passed away Oct. 17, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Jan. 4, 1938, in Great Bend, he was the son of Wilmer and Leah Dorfshaffer Otte. A longtime area resident he was a farmer/stockman. On Sept. 16, 1956, he married Karen Rice in Great Bend. She survives.

RUSSELL - Richard Henry Dumler, 88, found peace on Oct. 14, after a long battle with multiple illnesses. At the time of his death, he lived at Rose Estates assisted living in Overland Park. Born on April 19, 1926, in Russell, he was the son of Henry and Agnes Dumler. His mother later married Ted Gariepy. He attended high school in Russell, where he was a sports star. There he met cheerleader Betty Joanne Kilian. He entered the service in 1944, serving in the United States Army Air Force until 1945. He married Betty Jo on June 1, 1947.

WICHITA - Bashor, C. LeRoy, 74, passed away on Oct. 11. He was a proud Vietnam veteran serving 10 years in the United States Navy. Following the military he graduated Fort Hays State University with a master's degree in psychology. He was a retired school psychologist for USD 428 in Great Bend.
Nadine Dreiling, 81, died Oct. 10, at Hays Medical Center. Born June 25, 1933, in Neck City, Mo., she was the daughter of George and Vera (Sargent) Moore. On Oct. 2, 1954, she married Donald A. Dreiling in Chase. He died on Nov. 11, 2010. A resident of Great Bend since 1954, coming from Chase, she and her husband owned and operated Don's Food Mart and she retired from Dillon's Pharmacy. She loved her grandchildren and watching sports, especially the University of Kansas Jayhawks and New York Yankees.
WINFIELD - Donald M. "Don" Kline, 87, of Winfield, passed away on Oct. 11, at Cumbernauld Village. Born Aug. 29, 1927, in Wichita, he was the son of Arthur C. and Martha H. (Harris) Kline. He was raised and educated in the Marion and Great Bend areas. Don left school prior to graduation to join the United States Navy.
