Tim Allen Pfeifer, 28, died Sept. 30 at his home in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 5, 1983 at Hays, the son of Francis J. and Sue (Stejskal) Pfeifer. He was manager of Medical Records at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 2004 coming from Liebenthal and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Liebenthal.
Sheryl L. Mosiman File, 67, died Sept. 25 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 12, 1944 in Beatrice, Neb., she was the daughter of Royal A. and Lois E. (Knowles) Mosiman. She was a Great Bend resident for three years, coming from Beatrice, Neb. to be near family.
Martha T. Richards, 89, went to her heavenly home Sept. 29, 2011. She was born May 5, 1922, at Great Bend, and died at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood. She was the daughter of Delbert Lee and Minnie Emaline (Engleman) Tucker. She married Oscar Cline Richards on Oct. 14, 1950, at Great Bend. He died Jan. 30, 1993.
ALBANY, Ore. - Josephine (Jody) Laverna Young, 83, of Albany, Ore., passed away Saturday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 19, 1928, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of George and Frances (Koelsch) Whitsel. Josephine moved to Albany from Great Bend where she was the Girl Scout District Representative in Barton County for many years. Isabella Sander, 88, died Sept. 26 at Hays Medical Center. Born Jan. 4, 1923, in Liebenthal, she was the daughter of Alex and Margaret (Kippes) Amrein. On Sept. 3, 1946 she married Edward Sander in Ellis. He died March 8, 1994. She was a nurses' aid at the Great Bend Manor for many years and grew up in Liebenthal. Her family moved to Ellis in 1931. CHASE - James Dennis (JD)Sheldon, 31, died Sept. 26 at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Nov. 26, 1979 in Great Bend, he was the son of Dennis L. Sheldon and Karen K. Spring-Norwood Sheldon. A resident of Chase, he was a truck driver for Barton County Feeders in Ellinwood and a mechanic for Straub International in Great Bend and for Ochs, Inc. in Otis.
ELLINWOOD - Guy Anthony Caton, 43, died Sept. 23 at his home in Ellinwood. Born May 27, 1968 in Petaluma, Calif., he was the son of Andy Leroy Caton and Valorie Downing Caton. A seven year resident of Ellinwood, formerly of Santa Rosa, Calif., he was employed by L & H Unit Repair.
LARNED - Gary Lee Shelton, 61, died Sept. 26 at Hays Medical Center, Hays. He was born March 26, 1950, in Larned, to Donald and Ida Marie McNemee Shelton. A lifetime resident of Larned, he was a retired service technician for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
RUSSELL - Fara Mae (Brack) Popp, 81, passed away May 17, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 13, 1933, on the family farm north of Otis, she was the daughter of Edwin and Phoebe (Keil) Brack. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Otis High School. On June 15, 1958, she married Paul Popp in Otis. She was a homemaker and assisted her parents on the farm when needed.
WINFIELD - Susan Marie (Feldman) Quint, 46, of Winfield, went to her Heavenly home on May 15, after a valiant fight with Brain Cancer. She was born March 19, 1969, in Great Bend to Richard and Jackye (Strother) Feldman. Susan graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Barton County Community College. She obtained an Office Manager degree from Wichita Area Vocational Technical College and an Associate Degree from Cowley County Community College in Early Childhood Education. Julia Ann Barnes, 54, died May 16, at her home in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1960, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of James R. Jr., and Joyce L. (Mohr) Lofland. On Nov. 14, 1981, she married Jeff Barnes in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was employed in retirement plan management at CPI Qualified Plan Consultants for more than 15 years. She had a great love of quilting.
