ROCHESTER, ILL. - Theodore L (Ted) McCoy, 76, of Rochester, Ill., died , July 13, in Rochester, Ill. Born in Marion, July 9, 1935, he was the son of Russell W. and Arian Brigham McCoy. He attended Fort Hays State University. A member of Alpha Epsilon Rho, national honorary radio-TV fraternity, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University in 1958. CUSHING, Okla. - Charlene Ann Tannahill was born on Aug. 21, 1935 in Pawnee, Okla., to Charley R. Tannahill and Dorothy I. Reaves Tannahill. She passed from this life on June 19, at Linwood Nursing Home in Cushing, Okla., having reached the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 28 days. She moved to Cushing, Okla. from Great Bend in October of 1978. She was a retired registered nurse.
LARNED - Kathleen Mary Spayd, 66, died July 11, at her home in Larned. Born July 11, 1945, in Detroit Mich., she was the daughter of George and Helen Watson Gierschke. A resident of Larned since 2000, she was employed at the Larned State Hospital. On July 31, 1965, she married Elbert Lee Spayd and later divorced.
WAKEENEY - Laverne "Bunny" Tomanek, 78, died July 12, at Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita. Born March 9, 1933 in Collyer, he was the son of Fred Eugene Tomanek and Rose Katherine (Power) Tomanek. On Oct. 20, 1952 he married Darlene (Nemechek) Tomanek.
ALDEN - Margaret E. Lipp, 84, died July 11 at Sterling Presbyterian Manor. Born June 1, 1927 in Alden, she was the daughter of Harry E. and Rubye Muir Ward. She graduated from Alden High School in 1945 and received her bachelors degree in Education in 1949 from Sterling College. A lifetime resident of Alden, she was a retired teacher for the Quivira Heights School District in Holyrood. On Aug. 1, 1950 she married Chester Mervyn Lipp at the Alden United Methodist Church. He died on Jan. 14, 2002.
ELLSWORTH - Robert Dale Nienke Sr., 77, died July 11, 2011, in Ellsworth. Born Mar. 14, 1934, at Ellsworth, he was the son of Reinhart H. "Rein" and Pauline C. (Zorn) Nienke. A former resident of Salina, he had lived in Ellsworth for six years. He was retired from Enron Corporation and was a United States Army veteran. On Aug. 5, 1956, he married Elaine McCarty in Holyrood. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2009.
WICHITA - Dr. Robert D. Smith, 59, met his Heavenly Father on July 8, 2011. Bob was the son-in-law of Dr. and Mrs. Franklin Reinhardt of Great Bend. He was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 6, 1951, to DH and Patricia Smith. He leaves behind his wife, Roxie, son, Dr. Brian Smith (Emily) of Wichita, and daughter Abby Andrus (Adam) of Denver, Colo.
ELLINWOOD - F. William (Bill) Koop, 91, died July 7 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Nov. 5, 1919, near Mitchell, S.D., he was the son of Ferdinand and Mary Winter Koop. In 1937, he graduated from Mitchell High School in Mitchell, S.D. In 1948 and 1950 he graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Washington, Seattle. He was awarded a Carnegie Fellowship in 1949.
RUSSELL - Fara Mae (Brack) Popp, 81, passed away May 17, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 13, 1933, on the family farm north of Otis, she was the daughter of Edwin and Phoebe (Keil) Brack. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Otis High School. On June 15, 1958, she married Paul Popp in Otis. She was a homemaker and assisted her parents on the farm when needed.
WINFIELD - Susan Marie (Feldman) Quint, 46, of Winfield, went to her Heavenly home on May 15, after a valiant fight with Brain Cancer. She was born March 19, 1969, in Great Bend to Richard and Jackye (Strother) Feldman. Susan graduated from Great Bend High School and attended Barton County Community College. She obtained an Office Manager degree from Wichita Area Vocational Technical College and an Associate Degree from Cowley County Community College in Early Childhood Education. Julia Ann Barnes, 54, died May 16, at her home in Great Bend. Born July 4, 1960, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of James R. Jr., and Joyce L. (Mohr) Lofland. On Nov. 14, 1981, she married Jeff Barnes in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was employed in retirement plan management at CPI Qualified Plan Consultants for more than 15 years. She had a great love of quilting.
