Larry D. Nuss, 61, of Great Bend, died Nov. 22 at his home. He was born April 29, 1949, in Great Bend, the son of Benjamin and Janet (Moore) Nuss. He married Coleen Miller on Dec. 18, 1971, at Albert. He was a salesman for Kitco. Mr. Nuss was a Great Bend resident since 1993, coming from Otis.
DODGE CITY - Margaret F. Lightcap, 88, died Nov. 22 at Central Kansas Medical Center at Great Bend. She was born on Dec. 13, 1921, at Lamar, Colo., the daughter of Lloyd and Lena (Krueger) Keenportz. She grew up in Hodgeman County and moved to Dodge City in 1940. On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Leroy Lightcap at Rozel. He preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 2004. Margaret was a homemaker and she and her husband lived in Dodge City until moving to Great Bend in 2000.

MINNEAPOLIS, Kan. -Leona P. Berry, 94, of Minneapolis, died Nov. 22 at the Salina Regional Health Center. Leona was born May 9, 1916, near Beaver, to William and Grace (Chenoweth) Berry. She graduated from Hoisington High School, Hoisington, at the age of 16. Leona was too young to teach so she stayed home for one year. Then she taught county grade schools (first through eighth grades) in Russell County, starting at the age of 17 after a brief Normal Training at Fort Hays College. MISSION, Texas - Beverly Louise Colegrove Boyer died at the age of 82 due to natural causes at Mission, Texas, on Nov. 18. Beverly was born Aug. 1, 1926, the daughter of Helen Louise Miller Colegrove and Arthur Colegrove. She was the granddaughter of Herman C. and Mary Colegrove and Lester C. and Christine Miller, all of whom were residents of Great Bend before their deaths. On March 7, 1946, Beverly was wed to Harold Wayne Boyer. They were married for 54 years before "Wayne" passed away in January of 2000.

Edmund Wayne Rome, 60, of Great Bend, died Nov. 20 at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend. He was born Feb. 15, 1950, at Great Bend, the son of Ed and Isabella (Frost) Rome. He married Rosalyn Schenkel. They were later divorced. He worked for the City of Great Bend at the water treatment plant. Mr. Rome was a lifetime resident of Great Bend. He served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Air Force.

Dolores M. Reif, 79, died Nov. 19 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born Sept. 18, 1931, at Schoenchen, the daughter of George and Margaret (Ernst) Tauscher. She married LeRoy W. Reif on Nov. 26, 1951, at Hoisington. She worked various places, such as Dawson Jewelers, Merle Norman, Clay Ward Photography and the Salvation Army. Most recently, she was a loving caregiver for her grandchildren. She had been a Great Bend resident since 1981, coming from rural Hoisington.
TOPEKA - Jess Torrez, 84, of Topeka, formerly of Great Bend, passed away on Nov. 13 after a battle with esophageal cancer and Alzheimer's at Manor Care Health Services in Topeka. Born on Aug. 2, 1926, in Hanston, he was the son of Silbrestre and Isabel (Ruiz) Torrez. Jess graduated from Larned High School and then attended police training at the University of Kansas. ELLINWOOD - Lincoln Paul Tschopp, 78, died Aug. 17, at his home in Ellinwood. Born on Feb. 12, 1936, in Winfield, he was the son of Frederick and Cleoa (Pishney) Tschopp of Udall. He graduated as the first four sport letterman from Udall High School and holds degrees from both BCCC and Friends University in Wichita.
