BEAVER - Eldon J. Schremmer, 65, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017, after a brief illness. Born on Oct. 2, 1951, at Hoisington, he was the son of Walter R. and Matilda J. (Zorn) Schremmer. A Barton County resident all his life, Eldon was a self-employed over-the-road truck driver for many years prior to his retirement.
YUKON, Okla. - Jean Marie Perkins, 84, passed away Mar. 28, 2017, in Yukon, Okla. Born June 25, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Okla., she was the daughter of Don and Nell Bassett. Moving to Yukon, Okla., in 2014, she grew up and raised her family in Great Bend. From 1978-2014 she lived in Broken Arrow, Okla. She was a master's champion in duplicate bridge, and enjoyed dancing and golfing with her husband Jack.
Edna Ellen Ruble, 93, died March 29, 2017, at Cherry Village Nursing Home, Great Bend. She was born April 18, 1923, at Great Bend, the daughter of August Henry and Geraldine Frances (Chaney) Meyer. She married Sidney Ray Ruble Nov. 12, 1942, at Great Bend. He died April 20, 1969. A lifetime Great Bend resident, Mrs. Ruble was a retired machine operator at Fuller Brush and worked as a cook at American Legion Argonne Post 180 and Elks Lodge No. 1127.
LARNED - Mildred "Millie" K. Oetken, 64, passed away March 29, 2017, at Diversicare of Larned. Born May 18, 1952, at Dodge City, she was the daughter of Marvin and Margaret Leonhart Rupp. On July 2, 1972, she married Charlie Oetken in St. John. He survives. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker.
PAWNEE ROCK - Emmett (Keith) Kasselman, 78, passed away March 25, 2017, at Hays Medical Center. Born Oct. 24, 1938, in Great Bend, he was the son of Emmett "Johnny" and Norma Argyle Kasselman. On June 23, 1962, he married Alta Janes in Larned. She survives. A lifetime area resident, he worked in retail sales and at Great Bend Manufacturing for 10 years.
Carrol Black, 75, died March 24, 2017, at her home in Great Bend. Born Aug. 5, 1941, at Decatur, Ark., she was the daughter of Harold Richard and Georgia Irene (Appling) Drew. On Nov. 14, 1973, she married Tommy Alfred Stacey at Safford, Ariz. He died July 9, 1981. She was a CNA for Anthony Community Care.
JoAnn Macurdy, 84, died March 8, 2017, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born June 6, 1932, at Ellinwood, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Bacon) Courtright. She was a graduate of Ellinwood High School and Wichita State University with a degree in accounting and secretarial services. She married James Lynn Macurdy Sept. 29, 1951, at Ellinwood. He died Sept. 3, 1998. A longtime Great Bend resident, Mrs. Macurdy was a bookkeeper for her husband at Macurdy's Hatchery and Great Bend Poultry Company and later for Brentwood, Ltd. and McDonald's.
Joseph A. Young, 47, of Great Bend passed away at his home on Friday, March 24, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Joe was born on April 11, 1969, at Medicine Lodge, to Bernard C. and Teresa E. (Felton) and grew up and attended school in Pratt. Joe worked as a carpenter in the construction trade for many years, and also worked in landscaping. He was united in marriage to Linda (Thimesch) Leslie on Nov. 16, 2002, at Hutchinson. The couple lived in Colorado and Hutchinson prior to moving to Great Bend three years ago.
