LARNED - Charles M. Wonsetler, 85, died Aug. 6, 2015, at his residence in Larned. He was born March 8, 1930, in Larned, the son of Charles H. "Sam" and Clara VanDanacker Wonsetler. On May 26, 1954, he married Josephine "Jo" Mooney at Larned. She died Oct. 8, 2004. A lifetime area resident, he was a production manager for Doerr Metal.
CHASE - Marvel "Nanny" Wooley, 83, died Aug. 4, 2015, at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson. Born Dec. 10, 1931, in Beaver County, Okla., she was the daughter of William L. and Edna B. Haskell Young. In 1949, she graduated from Ashland High School. On Jan. 22, 1954, she married Vincent "Benny" Wooley in Sterling. He died on July 16, 1998. A resident of Chase since 1952, formerly of Ashland, she was a homemaker.
Alan E. Bartholomew, 69, of Stotts City, Mo., died July 27, 2015, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo. He was born Feb. 3, 1946, at Great Bend, the son of Earl and Mary Slankard Bartholomew. He grew up and went to school in Great Bend. Following graduation from Great Bend High School, he attended Pittsburg State in Pittsburg. While there he met Linda Blancet. They were married on June 4, 1967, in Benedict. She passed away on Feb. 20, 1995.
WICHITA - Marnie Keith Thaete, 75, of Wichita, died Aug. 3, 2015, at Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita. Born Aug. 6, 1939, in Sylvan Grove, he was the son of Armin G. H. and Elta Irene (Frey) Thaete. On June 1, 1971, Marnie and Marilyn Geesling were united in marriage in Holton. Together they celebrated 26 years of marriage before her passing in 1997. SALINA - Donald Lee Herl, 77, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 1, 2015, in the care of his loving wife and family. He was born Sept. 3, 1937, in Hays, the son of Jacob and Leona (Dingus) Herl. On Aug. 1, 1959, he married Henrietta Huser at St Boniface Catholic Church in Vincent.
William E. "Bill" Frenzl, 83, died Aug. 1, 2015, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born Feb. 9, 1932, in Odin, he was the son of Hugo and Matilda (Hoeffner) Frenzl. On Nov. 10, 1954, he married Mary Ann Hickel at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ellinwood. She died on Oct. 20, 2005. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a farmer, carpenter, and a maintenance supervisor for Ref-Chem. Corp. Bushton Plant, retiring in 1997.
LARNED - John "Pat" Patrick Keeley, 90, passed away Aug. 1, 2015, at the Catholic Care Center, Bel Aire, Kansas. Born Nov. 21, 1924, in Larned, he was the son of James Edward and Leeta McConnaughhay Keeley. A lifetime area resident, he was a police officer and State Parole Officer, after serving in combat during WWII as a paratrooper in the Army.
Mary Lee Reed, 91, died on Friday afternoon, July 24, 2015, at her home. Born on Dec. 31, 1923, in McGhee, Ark., she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Etta (Adams) Moffit Washington. On Dec. 7, 1941, she was united in marriage to Abe Reed Sr. in Snow Lake, Ark. He died on Jan. 23, 1988. The family moved to Great Bend in 1946, where she was a long-time resident. HOLYROOD - Grace (Wilkens) Johnson, 77, passed away on July 25, 2015, at her home in Holyrood. Born Nov. 7, 1937, in Lorraine, she was the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Kruse) Wilkens. On Aug. 30, 1958, Grace married Richard E. Johnson. He preceded her in death. A resident of Holyrood since 2005, moving from the farm three miles east of town, she was a housewife. Steven J. Thomas, 58, passed away at his home in Great Bend on July 24, 2015. Steve was born on July 1, 1957, at Hutchinson, to Glen L. and Patty L. (Herndon) Thomas. He grew up in Lebanon, Kansas, and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1975. In 1976 he moved to Great Bend and attended Barton County Community College, where he obtained an Associate of Science degree.
