Naomi Janell (Jan) Williams died on March 9. Born on June 9, 1926, in Hayworth, Okla., she was the daughter of William McKinley "Bill" Whala and Lessie Whala. In 1943 she graduated from Ellinwood High School. She retired from Civil Service at Tinker Air Force Base.
TOPEKA - Lenora Jean McMillan, 83, of Topeka, went home to be with her Lord on March 23, at her home. She was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Eugene and Edith Duncan Johnston. She attended Great Bend High School and obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing from Barton County Community College. The early years of her life were spent raising her family in Great Bend before moving to Topeka in 1975.
B. Marie Schwartz, 82, died March 22 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born April 16, 1929, at Liebenthal, the daughter of Alex and Mary (Doerfler) Pfeifer. She married Maurice C. Schwartz on July 29, 1947, at Liebenthal. She was a nurse's aide and volunteer at Central Kansas Medical Center. Mrs. Schwartz was a Great Bend resident most of her life, coming from Liebenthal.
HOISINGTON - Phyllis Y. Nulton, 80, died March 23 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Jan. 12, 1932, at McAllen, Texas, the daughter of Pierce and Gertrude (Phillips) Wikoff. She married Tom Nulton on Oct. 21, 1951, at Hays. She worked in retail sales for Ann's Dress Shop in Hays and Verna's in Hoisington, and as an office manager for over 25 years at State Farm Insurance, Hoisington. She had been a Hoisington resident since 1967, coming from Hays.
ELLINWOOD - Norbert Luebbers, 86, died March 24 in Ellinwood. He was born April 24, 1926, is rural Barton County, the son of Henry and Josiphine Straub Luebbers. He married Anna Lee Kawasky Luebbers. An Ellinwood resident, he had worked as a pulling unit operator for Steven's Well Service until his retirement in 1988.
WAMEGO - Bessie Ann Day, 62, died March 14 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Born on Sept. 21, 1949, in Lyons, she was the daughter of the late Anna Marie Geist and Robert Melville Hawkins. Bessie Hawkins was united in marriage to James Day in June of 1976. They had three children and were later divorced. She attended and graduated from Lyons High School in 1967, and attended Brown Mackie College in Salina from 1967-1968, graduating with an associate degree in business.
