GLENMORA, LA. - Butch McNett, 40, of Glenmora, La., entered eternal rest on Sept. 24, 2010 in his residence. He was born on June 17, 1970 in Salina, to the union of Champion Fredrick McNett and Marie Alice McNett. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, coach and friend. He was one of the biggest Dallas Cowboys Football fan. He loved coaching his sons in football and baseball. He also loved hunting, fishing, car racing, and was a drummer at heart.
TOPEKA - Opal M. Snider, 105, died Wednesday at Presbyterian Manor of Topeka. She was born February 5, 1905 at Mahaska, the daughter of Amos and Sophenia May. On May 24, 1929, she married Clifford Snider at Ness City. Clifford preceded her in death in 1980. A longtime Hoisington resident, coming from Dodge City, Mrs. Snider was a retired school teacher having taught in Ness City for 12 years..
IRVINE, Calif. - Ruth Lorraine Duncan, 97, died Sept. 27 at Irvine, Calif. She was born Dec. 18, 1912 at Ellinwood, the daughter of Florence M. and DeWitt Johnson. She married Charles Duncan, Jr. on June 12, 1937 in Long Beach, Calif. He died Nov. 18, 2005.
Gerald D. Krug, 68, of Great Bend, died Sept. 27 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. He was born Feb. 27, 1942, at Great Bend, the son of Edward and Helen V. (Brack) Krug. He married Marlies Pütz on April 13, 1968, at Memphis, Ark. A lifetime Barton County resident, he was owner and operator of E&E Glass and Gifts, Great Bend.
BROWNWOOD, Texas - On Sept. 26 at 12:56 p.m., Bryan S. Lange was serenaded by angels from Hendricks Hospital in Abilene, Texas, to his heavenly home at the age of 35. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church, Junction, Texas. Bryan's uncle Dennis Heinold will share officiate duties with Steven Royall, youth pastor of First Baptist Church.
ROSSVILLE - Clarence Darrell Flanders, 72, died early Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Rossville Healthcare & Rehab Center in Rossville. He was born April 16, 1938, at Great Bend, the son of the late Elvin P. and Thelma M. Rediger Flanders. Darrell grew up in Great Bend and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1956. ELLINWOOD - Mary Lee Koch, 66, died Sept. 25 at Promise Regional Hospital in Hutchinson. Born Dec. 11, 1943, in Claflin, she was the daughter of Frank and Clemantine Tyson Straub. On Feb. 29, 1972, she married Marvin Koch in Salina. A long-time resident of Ellinwood, formerly of Great Bend and Tulsa, Okla., she was a homemaker and waitress at J.C. Penny's Coffee Shop, Fuller Brush, owner of Kookies Lounge in Great Bend and a waitress at Sheridan Lanes in Tulsa, Okla.
WOODLAWN, TENN. - MSG (Ret.) Herman E. Cassity, 82, Woodlawn, Tenn., died Sept. 25 at his home. Born Dec. 10, 1927, in Bush City, he was the son of the late Wilmer and Esther Burlington Cassity. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Army, where he belonged to the 101st Airborne Division. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his military service he retired once again from Civil Service Family Housing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Faye Conatser Cassity.
George F. Esfeld, 83, died Sept. 27 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Feb. 24, 1927, at Great Bend, the son of Fred, Sr. and Frances (Monger) Esfeld. He married Gemella A. Gerstenkorn on Feb. 15, 1949, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend. She died Nov. 2, 2008. A lifetime Great Bend resident, he worked for Clarke Well and Equipment as a field supervisor.
PRATT - Josephine M. Strohl, 89, died Sept. 26 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. She was born Dec. 8, 1920, in St. Leo, the daughter of Edward N. and Emma (Armbruster) Freund. On Nov. 6, 1945, she married Richard 'Dick' Strohl in St. Leo. He preceded her in death. She had lived in Pratt since 1984, coming from St. Leo.
FAIRHOPE, Ala. - Ema Davis, 102, died Sept. 17 at her residence in Fairhope, Ala. She was born Jan. 26, 1908, in Hoisington, to Abraham and Lydia (Radke) Boger. After completing high school in Hoisington, she was encouraged to pursue the field of chiropractic medicine and enrolled in Colvin Chiropractic College in Wichita. It was there she met another student, Otis Davis. Upon receiving their degrees, they married and set about travelling throughout the United States holding health workshops. Dorothy B. Essmiller, 89, died Sept. 19 at her home in Great Bend. Born June 1, 1921, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Harry and Ruby (Travis) LeRoy. On Aug. 3, 1941, she married Ralph Essmiller in Great Bend. He died Aug. 9, 1974. A lifetime resident of Great Bend she was a farm wife and bookkeeper for McDonald Tank and Equipment Company, Inc.
COLBY - Betty Elaine Fitzsimmons Sloan died peacefully at her home in Colby on Sept. 24. She was born April 18, 1924 to Ethyl Lene (Logan) and Everett Wallace Elmore in Rozel, Kansas. Betty attended Lewis Rural School and graduated in 1942. College was interrupted by World War II, and after attending KU, and Hutchinson Junior College, she was granted a Bachelor in Speech and English from Kansas State University in 1947. HOISINGTON - Dean Steiner, 78, died Thursday at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. He was born Dec. 3, 1931 at Hoisington, Kansas the son of Louis and Lenora (Ummel) Steiner. A longtime Hoisington resident, coming from Odin, Mr. Steiner was a retired employee of Kansas Wildlife and Parks at Cheyenne Bottoms, retiring in 1992. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
